I wasn't a die hard or anything. The only song I'd ever heard by them growing up was Silent Lucidity. I had a boss that was huge into them and showed me Operation Mindcrime. I kind of wished I'd grown up with it. I was already around 28 at that point so it didn't have the impact it would have. It was still pretty great.

Speaking of religious wingnuts, I didn't know that ICP had sampled one of the greatest "religious" con-men ever, Estus Perkle, for their song "Pass Me By"

I just found that out the other day when I was watching The Cinema Snob cover the movie "The Believer's Heaven" and I recognized the voice. He didn't mention ICP at all, but I knew that was the nutjob.

My favorite religous song still is, and probably forever will be "God Bless All the Universe" by Reverend Rooney and the Rocksta Chior for the first GTA on Playstation.

Not a landslide, just 12 or so yirz uv accumulated mud, fish poop, twigz, leavez, etc. There wuz only 1 fish & 2 frogz left kuz last yir the racoonz got hungry and went fishing.

It haz had over 100 fish at timez and every couple uv yirz I'd haf to catch most uv them and put them in the lake. I started with a dozen-for-a-dollar feeder goldfish (pirhana food at pet storez) and they bred. The frogz showed up on their own.

I've always wanted to build one of those of my own man. One of these days I will, but I've just got too many pressing big ticket items I need to take care of before I could justify the expense.

I admire you for putting yourself out there on the internet like that man. I've largely stayed "anon" outside of my drunken Facebook embarrassments, and I've since sworn off all social media.

I'm going to have to bite the bullet and do it at some point though if I want to go forward with making money off of my project I'm working on though. I've got a lot of ideas swimming in my head about the best way to go forward with it, but since it's still a long way from being at a point that I can start trying to monetize my work, I still have time to figure all of that out.

You keep labeling me a Republican, and I know I have a lot of Libertarian views.

Let's address my personal feelings on the issues you've mentioned here:

1. Let business do whatever it wants but don’t spoil poor people with government handouts;

I don't think I'd ever say "Let businesses do whatever they want". Decades of that have brought us to where we are now, where a majority of Americans are working jobs that can't support a family.

In some instances, Government should be out of the equation, while in others it should be regulating things. For instance, why does Disney seem to own everything today? Why hasn't the government stepped in and put a stop to that by breaking Disney down and preventing it from hoovering up the entire entertainment industry?

As for poor people and benefits, I've argued a lot with JSF on that topic here. At least until the point where we can put everyone to work where they can be at lest somewhat gainfully employed, it's better for all of us if the poorest people have access to food, rather than breaking into your home or robbing you on the street to feed themselves and their families.

There is a good argument against benefits at the same time as well. I find myself on the cusp of that situation. In all honesty, I could go to my work and cut the amount of days per week I am available by 1, which would be 4 less days per month, or 48 days less per year. If I were to do that, I would essentially be making the same amount of money because I could apply for food stamps and get the individual maximum of nearly 200 per month, and I would qualify for what is essentially free health insurance again.

The only thing stopping me from doing that is me. I don't want to be on the dole anymore. The rational part of my mind knows that I'm doing extra work with absolutely no financial benefit to myself, but money isn't everything. It's an extra night of working out every week, and even though I don't have much I can feel a lot better about myself by not getting handouts. Most people wouldn't do that if given the choice. Alcoholic, binge drinking old-me was one of them.

2. let individuals have gun arsenals but not abortions or recreational drugs or marriage with whomever they wish;

I'm not going to start yet another gun debate here, but I support gun rights. Period.

Yeah. I agree with all of that.

Maybe a pure perpetual machine is not something that humans could ever achieve. So what? Even if it were, parts would eventually break. So what? Every machine we all use in our daily lives draw off of a source of power with little to no reciprocity and I have very little faith that any single thing I own that does today is still going to be chugging along after i die.

I've seen what a perpetual motion machine "should" look like. I've watched videos which are almost certainly hoaxes of smaller perpetual motion machines that people have made on youtube. Even if they are faked in some way, the overall idea seemed sound and it looked as though if it were built properly that a tiny catalyst could set off a reaction that could crank a shaft for quite a while on its own before slowing and eventually stopping.

My thinking is that these designs I've seen for perpetual motion machines are possibly missing the point by striving for something that might not even be possible at the end of the day. What does that matter, if we could use solar power with them as they are now and investigate the possibility of these machines actually multiplying the value of solar power?

Who cares if it doesn't run long after nightfall? That's what batteries are for.

Took 2 weeks to prep the formz & envelopes. It seemed everything wuz working agenst me. The printer wuz out uv ink, then woudnt print kuz Windowz had added a 2nd printer with the same name with a faulty driver and selected it az default. Then my frij quit on Wenzday. Then the address labelz were falling off.

But I got thru it. Fixed the Frij yesterday. Got a start relay from a mini frij at the scrap resycler and put the disc rezistor from it in mine.

A tip for wen your frij diez - Put a bag uv ise in the freezer & frij to keep your food from spoiling. I put 2 22 pound bagz in Thurzday morning and they were still mostly frozen on Friday nite wen I added a 3rd.

I'd have to disagree with that one a bit, J0. Part of leveling the playing field would be to promote entrepreneurship. Putting a 50% tax on the first 10 employees would almost make the barrier to entry too unaffordable for anybody trying to start a small business. That being said, I would reclassify what constitutes a sub-contractor, and change the laws so that a company would really have to bend over backward to prove that the people working for them aren't actually employees so they can avoid paying for their share of Social Security and Medicare. Right now, it's on the employee to fight that, and this usually requires seeking legal consul which nobody at the bottom can even afford to do.

I don't know how versed you are in working shitty jobs, but this is an EXTREMELY common practice and puts a HUGE tax burden on some of the smallest wage earners in the country.

If I were you, I'd surely get rid of that 500+ number, but I don't think I'd start extra taxes on the business until they had more than 20 or 25 employees at the very least.

I'd heard of Daily Kos before, but I didn't really know anything about it. When you posted the link and I read all of those replies I had to google the site to see that it was "is a group blog and internet forum focused on the Democratic Party and liberal American politics." That seems fairly narrow, but I didn't know they went so far as banning any 3rd party stuff too.

You're much better off without them. Anybody that works this hard to create their own echo chamber is not going to listen to anything.

The debate seemed to go well for me. Got plenty uv laffs. I opened with:
"I hav good newz & bad newz. The bad newz for us candidates iz that we're going to looz - Pritzker'z going to be the next Govrnr.
The good newz iz that we arent likely to be wearing an oranj jump suit in 5 yirz!"

The GIT ansr to the gun control Q wuz a hit. Its fair to say the NO MONEY / Steal Illinois campane took a step forward.

On the downside, only 1 other candidate, Dan Fein, showed up and there were only associates and frendz uv hiz and the organizerz for the audiens. Still, several peepl sed I hav their vote.

I vizited Lauren Underwood'z campane offis yesterday.

Its appalling how much paper iz wasted on the entire prossess.

There wuz at least 2 tunz uv posterz, postcardz, stickerz, etc. I sed 'no way you'll be able to uze it all in 4 dayz' and the campaner sed "No, I'm pretty sure we will."

You haf to figure there wuz at least 10 x az much printed and distributed over the campane period. That wuz just 1 uv her 4 offisez. So did they print & distribute 80 tunz uv this krap?

Then therez Hultgren, the incumbent GoP congressman she'z running agenst. He probably did just az much.

That was my job, back in the late 90's into the 2000's. I had 3 different business cards with different titles on them, depending on who the client was and what my part of the operation was going to be.

Our building had everything necessary to make all of that crap every step of the way, including official post office scales so the mailers could be weighed in-house by postal employees without having to drive them to the post office first in case the weights were off for the bulk shipping rates.

During election cycles, our little building pumped out an unbelievable amount of product, and I would be working over 100 hours a week with time and a half for 3 to 4 weeks straight (I paid off my last car I had payments on with a single check back when I was 20). I lived close enough to home so I always slept in my bed, but a lot of the employees were put up in a local hotel so they could come straight back to work.

The campaign mailers were our bread and butter, but we'd also farm out jobs for signs and bumper stickers and all other sorts of crap. Because of the owners political ties at the time, he was able to charge top dollar and won the "contests" in the bidding for the jobs without any opposition, so we made quite a bit of money on top of the charges other smaller places made to do these smaller jobs.

That last statement is something I never would have mentioned back in the day, but all those guys ended up being arrested back in the early 2000's when they all fell like dominoes on the path to taking down George Ryan, so it's all old news. I could actually give you a laundry list of names that you're probably familiar with if you've lived in Illinois all of your life. Some of them I worked with every day. Some of them I shook hands with, got to dress up in a suit and take my best gal out to expensive political fund raisers for free, and handled the operations of their accounts. Most of them spent quite a few years in federal prison for one white collar crime or another.

I quit college while I was working there because I was making so much money and with the people I was meeting I figured I'd never need it. Then it all disappeared, leaving me without an education or even a single valid reference on my resume.

They were good times while they lasted.

Shame it wasn't even worth it since Illinois can't seem to get a Governor in office that isn't corrupt no matter which party they're from.

Long story short, I do believe that until we have serious campaign finance reform that we are going to cut down a small rainforest every 2 years just to print all of this bullshit.

On the flip side, campaign finance reform will eliminate a lot of jobs as well.

Yes and no, at least I would suppose.

We were relatively "small time", as in we did only local and state stuff and didn't have any hand in any national elections.

A lot of money goes into these things, so there is an effort to only be spending it on stuff that would be worthwhile. Voter lists were good for this. Based off of how a person regularly voted in primaries you could, for example, only target likely voters that were going to vote for your candidate if you could get their ass off the couch instead of just doing a blanket mailer to everybody who lived in a district. Why waste all that money sending mailers to non-registered citizens or people who regularly vote for the other party, right?

Though I didn't have any hand in the strategy of who was targeted or how much money went into a particular campaign, I would assume that there were quite a few races on the same level that got wildly varying degrees of funding. Races that were a sure lost cause probably didn't get much, just like races that were almost a surefire win probably didn't either. My guess would be the most money was spent on the races that were polled to be tight. This would mean that there was probably instances where funding for lower level races was actually a few times more than higher level races.
