It worked on me: I had to go to Vietnam and have that war beat the hell out of me, completely knocking all false illusions out of me about my fellow Americans, to make me a slightly better person who is actually of some small use to America.

One of the reasons that GWB was the worst president we ever had, at the time, and then Obama came in and made him look miserly.
It's gotten slightly better in the last two years, but I'm fairly sure the American Dollar is doomed now after the leadership of the last two decades.
At least you've found a left voice that is discussing something legitimate again. Though I think this is just people beginning to hedge their bets if the blue wave doesn't come through and they're preparing to shift back into blame-everything-on-republicans-mode until the 2020 election. A tactic that is only going to work if the economy does get worse in the next 2 years.

Afterthought: George McGovern, the Democrat, ran against Nixon in 1972. The Democrat was completely right about Vietnam and he lost because he was right and the majority didn't want to believe the obvious truth of what McGovern was saying. All those people, some of them "Democrats", who voted for Nixon, the Republican, were completely wrong about Vietnam. Too bad they didn't go to Vietnam and get the hell beating out of them by Nixon for their stubborn unwillingness to learn, but they would have had to volunteer or be drafted. The situation is different today. You would have to go Vietnam or Canada now to avoid Trump beating the hell of America.

We had 8 years of Obama and it was devastating to the economy and the quality of life for people who aren't rich. Why do you keep thinking things will be better when Democrats are in control?

When the Trump tax cut was on the verge of being enacted, I called it “the biggest tax scam in history,” and made a prediction: deficits would soar, and when they did, Republicans would once again pretend to care about debt and demand cuts in Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security.
Sure enough, the deficit is soaring. And this week Mitch McConnell, the Senate majority leader, after declaring the surge in red ink “very disturbing,” called for, you guessed it, cuts in “Medicare, Social Security and Medicaid.” He also suggested that Republicans might repeal the Affordable Care Act — taking away health care from tens of millions — if they do well in the midterm elections.
Any political analyst who didn’t see this coming should find a different profession. After all, “starve the beast” — cut taxes on the rich, then use the resulting deficits as an excuse to hack away at the safety net — has been G.O.P. strategy for decades.
Oh, and anyone asking why Republicans believed claims that the tax cut would pay for itself is being naïve. Whatever they may have said, they never actually believed that the tax cut would be deficit-neutral; they pushed for a tax cut because it was what wealthy donors wanted, and because their posturing as deficit hawks was always fraudulent. They didn’t really buy into economic nonsense; it would be more accurate to say that economic nonsense bought them.

I sure hope he is not faking. The closer to election day he does it, the better to show voters Trump can create chaos with a Presidential order: Stop all traffic. Close the roads to and from Mexico. Shoot-to-kill orders for anybody approaching the border, especially women and children. It will be a great news opportunity. Might even affect the election.
