Quote:

I shouldn’t have to write this article. And yet, here we are...

I don’t care who you are or how much Palmer Report you read: accusing someone who disagrees with you of conducting psyops for a foreign government is never, ever a normal or acceptable way of conducting political discourse.

I tweeted the above yesterday after noticing another uptick in the bizarre habit establishment loyalists

You know who you are...
Quote:

have of labeling anyone who disagrees with them as Russian trolls. And, though I didn’t address it to her and made no mention of her, Louise Mensch took it personally.

This led to a deluge of fascinating interactions with Mensch’s followers, in which I was sincerely informed that Twitter has admitted to half of its users being Russian agents, though it is likely more. I was also called a Russian agent many, many times, because saying it’s not okay to accuse a stranger you disagree with of being a Russian agent is just the sort of thing a Russian agent would say.

Well, let me start off this weird, stupid article that I shouldn’t have to write by saying that I myself am not a Russian agent. I’ve never been to Russia, I have no ties to the Russian government, I rarely use sources in my articles that have ties to Russia, and to the best of my knowledge none of my patrons are Russian. I say this not because I feel a need to defend these foam-brained accusations but to point out that it is, in fact, very possible to disagree with the establishment Russia narrative without being incentivized to in rubles.

Political discourse between establishment loyalists and everyone else has been trampled to death by the gratuitous use of this obnoxious debate-avoiding tactic.

As well as shitting a gif into a thread before bailing. That's another tactic used frequently in these parts
Quote:

Everyone who publicly questions the MSNBC Russia narrative will be met with these accusations. Everyone who speaks about it with much of an online following will receive these accusations on a daily basis.

This is not normal.

And neither are the people who make these accusations
Quote:

Anti-Trumpists have been trained over the last year by people like Rachel Maddow, Louise Mensch, and the Palmer Report to believe that accusing everyone who disagrees with you of being a Russian agent is a normal thing that sane people do, but they are wrong. It is a bizarre, obnoxious tactic, and when you use it, you are admitting that you have no argument.

The accusation would not be baseless. You should remind yourself what the USIC's official report said on the matter of Russian interference. — Louise Mensch (@LouiseMensch) November 27, 2017

Yes it would indeed be a baseless accusation, @LouiseMensch. You do not know who is and is not a Kremlin agent, and the odds that you are interacting with one are rare. If you have to resort to baseless accusations of Russian espionage, you are admitting you have no argument. — Caitlin Johnstone (@caitoz) November 27, 2017

In the unlikely event that any Louise Mensch types are still reading at this point, let me explain how normal online discourse operates:

Party A presents a position on an issue.

Party B presents a rebuttal to the position, often supplemented with links substantiating their claim.

Party A returns with their own counter-argument and their own substantiations.

Repeat this back-and-forth for as long as both parties remain interested.

The civility with which this discourse takes place varies wildly, and it can leave both parties feeling like they wasted an hour or two of their lives talking to a brick wall. But it can also be very informative to people watching, it can often lead to one party realizing that their argument isn’t nearly as strong as their partisan echo chamber had led them to believe it was, and it can cause both parties to do more research and rigorous thinking as they strive to come up with a compelling case.

Or failing that, they can

Palmer Report " The New Republic's Colin Dickey claims that Palmer "routinely blasts out stories that sound serious but are actually based on a single, unverified source," such as the time when he reported Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts had ordered Trump appointee Neil Gorsuch to recuse himself from all Trump-related Russia hearings, with his only sourcing coming from a "single tweet from an anonymous Twitter account under the name 'Puesto Loco.'"

Boy sig really does like to post from bullshit sources. With all the facts stacking up against Trump that she denies as nonexistent, she starts an entire thread based on this source.

Jack, the title of moron I gave you sure does fit. You jumped right in with both feet, without giving it a second thought. Why, because it fits into your demented logic. Something you can't yet see for yourself. Stay sober and your senses may return. That is, if you had any to begin with.

"...Political discourse between (insert personal fav insult here) and everyone else has been trampled to death by the gratuitous use of this obnoxious debate-avoiding tactic." You mean like constantly talking about Hillary and Obama and shouting "collusion!" over and over?
No, By constantly name-calling and engaging in libel. And as far as "collusion" is concerned, I'm not the one "constantly" shouting it, but there are others (you know who you are) who did. And then, they try to bury it and hope to make others forget that for a month or two it was their overriding concern.

Like the article says ... if you think someone is posting propaganda and lies, then you should be able to defend with truth and facts. If you have to rely on ad hominum arguments and libel, as you just did, to make your "point", you must not have a point to make. Or if you DO have a point to make (aside from name-calling) it's hard to tell from your posts.

Lessons of defeat: German communists and the rise of Hitler (note, this is from a socialist website):
http://socialistreview.org.uk/378/lessons-of-defeat
Quote:

"Trotsky and his German supporters pleaded in vain with the Communists to concentrate their efforts on the key issues of the moment, above all the threat of Nazism: "Denying this threat, belittling it, failing to take it seriously is the greatest crime that can be committed today." Instead of the ridiculous accusation that the foremost enemy was "social fascism", he called on the Communists to say the following to the Socialists: "The policies of our parties are irreconcilably opposed, but if the fascists come tonight to your organisation's hall, we will come running, arms in hand, to help you. Will you promise us that if our organisation is threatened you will rush to our aid?"

Alas, this united front was rejected by the Communists. The Trotskyists could do nothing. They were too small an organisation to have any impact on either of the main workers' parties.

There has been some debate about why Germany's Communists became so obsessed with castigating other parts of the left. The key responsibility for this certainly lay with Stalin who, having established a state capitalist dictatorship in Russia, was using the foreign communist movement as a tool of his foreign policy."

Stalin had a rich history of not fighting the Nazis until he had to.

"Not fighting" is not the same as "supporting", and when push came to shove the Russians fought Nazis in a war in which 20 million Russians were killed, and won the European war against the Nazis.

Here's something about WWII that's about your speed. It's got pictures of cartoons and everything.:

Quote:

The 5 Most Widely Believed WWII Facts (That Are Bullshit)

America Won the War Single-Handedly

Claimed By:
Hollywood, WWII-shooters, Cold War politics and chauvinists.
Sixty years of World War II movies, and a decade of WWII video games, have made one thing clear: If it wasn't for America, you'd all be speaking German right now, baby! U-S-A! U-S-A!

Why it's Bullshit:
Because it's like thinking that while many X-Men contributed in their own special way, defeating Magneto really came down to Iceman.

There are two radically different histories of WW II, the one that was actually fought, and the one where the US kicked everyone's assess. Guess which one Cold War-era classrooms were allowed to teach? Here's a hint: It's the same one Hollywood chose to film.

... there is one Zangief-sized elephant in the room that America loved to leave out of conversation until the end of the Cold War: the Soviet Union. The "Great Patriotic War" as they called it was the single largest military operation in history, and home to perhaps the biggest turning-point of the war: the Battle of Stalingrad.

Understand, the Russia versus Germany part of the war wasn't just a little more important than the part the USA was involved in. It was "four times the scale" of the whole Western front, larger than all other phases of the war put together. The Soviet military suffered eight million soldiers dead, more than 20 freaking times the number of U.S. casualties.

First, your facts can't be trusted. Second, let me explain what WW11 did that reflects negatively on what Trump ( with your blessing ) is doing today.

WW11 took American out of it's isolationism phase. Through our dealings with our allies we learned that America first didn't work. That what happens in the world will engulf us whether we want it to or not. That we could work with other nations to create a better world and did.

That sig, made America number one. Not our isolationism tendencies of the past. You troll and Trump, are fighting to bring us down by repeating today those ignorant aspects of our past. You will fail.

Which would have been forever if Hitler hadn't broken the pact and invaded. When Hitler stabbed Stalin in the back and invaded, Stalin refused to believe it was happening and needlessly sacrificed large portions of the Red Army through inaction.

In the end, the Soviet Union turned the tide and steam-rollered Nazi Germany, but with massive material assistance from the US and Britain (Lend Lease).

Soviet deaths in WWII were between 20,000,000 to 27,000,000.

German deaths were 6,900,000 to 7,400,000. The Allies, excluding the Soviets, killed half those. Stalin’s strategy was to bury each dead German under the bodies of seven dead Soviet Citizens. That would only work because it was 188,793,000 Soviets against 69,300,000 Germans who knew when to surrender. The years of peace and prosperity for Germany since WWII show that the Germans won and Russia lost, compared to Germany. The Germans should thank Russians for removing a democratically elected German government from Berlin in 1945. Maybe the Russians can do the same favor for Americans in 2018, without all the bloodshed of WWII, by releasing their secret files on Trump?

1kiki, you're getting as nutty as Trump with his "Fake News".

1kiki, look at the column titled: "Total Deaths". It is just to the right of the column titled: "Civilian deaths due to war related famine and disease" at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_War_II_casualties

1kiki, Civilian deaths count, in my opinion, along with Army deaths. And for every German, either civilian or military, that Stalin killed, about seven Soviets died, also counting civilians along with Soviet army dead.

Stalin smothered the Germans to death underneath a monstrously large heap of dead Soviet Citizens. I am thankful he did. And Putin can follow Stalin's example by smothering Trump to death underneath a heap of secret papers from the files on Trump. I would be thankful if he did.

The Russians are erecting new statues to Stalin. Those hero-worshiping Russians would be upset by the mention that seven Russians had to die for every German killed. And 1kiki is upset. Comrade 1kiki, did you reveal your true loyalty?

It should be upsetting to honor the leader, Stalin, whose incompetence killed 27,000,000 Soviets. In the USA it would be like erecting new statues to Confederate War Heroes.

Wow, you're so sensitive to the topic of "Russia" you see it where it doesn't even exist. Are you sure YOU'RE not a Russian troll???

I third that, but there would have to be audio and/or video to back that up as well. Otherwise it's meaningless.

The more I think about it, the more it doesn't sound plausible in practice.

"Anonymous" may or may not be lying when they say what they're saying, but they feel safe saying it only because they're "off the record". Whether what they're saying is true or a lie, they might not say it at all if they're essentially being blackmailed with it for an indefinite amount of time after the fact by the MSM.

"Anonymous" may not even exist... but it would be easy for the MSM to give them an identity after the fact if something were to blow up in their face.

Let's say "Anonymous" is real... Say what they're saying IS true at the time, but circumstances behind the scenes change and now it seems to have been a lie. It wasn't a lie at the time it was said, but now Rachel Maddow can save her own career by outing this anonymous source and throwing them into the public gallows.

I don't know what the answer to this is, and this one isn't necessarily wrong, but I think it needs to be thought out a bit more and revamped.

Nuclear destruction 'one impulsive tantrum away,' Nobel winners warn

After the US dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Thurlow said that as a 13-year-old schoolgirl in 1945 she witnessed classmates who had "parts of their bodies missing" and "flesh and skin hanging from their bones".

Thurlow's 4-year-old nephew was also killed after being "transformed into an unrecognizable melted chunk of flesh."

"He kept begging for water in a faint voice until his death released him from agony," Thurlow said.

And in a thread about Russian trolls, SECOND inserts a post about Trump.

Interestingly, SECOND, by about this time on Obama's term of office, he had

Poured trillions of dollars into the banks and ...

Escalated drone strikes

Quote:

President Obama presided over a drone strike for the first time shortly after taking office, on January 22, 2009. The strike missed its target, and Newsweek reported that Obama was made aware almost immediately that innocents died in the attack. By the end of 2009 the CIA had already conducted its 100th drone strike in Pakistan....

The following year, a significant escalation in the drone war occurred not because “this technology really began to take off,” to repeat Obama’s construction, which seems to assign responsibility for targeted killings to drones themselves, but in part because of a deliberate response to a suicide attack on a U.S. outpost in Afghanistan that killed multiple CIA officers, prompting an unnamed official to tell The Guardian, “This attack will be avenged through successful, aggressive counterterrorism operations." Many were cross-border drone strikes targeting the Taliban. As the Bureau of Investigative Journalism later reported in its retrospective timeline, “2010 was to be the bloodiest year of drone strikes in Pakistan.”

https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2016/12/president-obamas-
weak-defense-of-his-record-on-drone-strikes/511454

He also expanded secret surveillance of all Americans (only pulling back when publicly confronted)

So yeah, Obama ... what a peace-loving guy!

So, Signym, are you insinuating that this year's Nobel Peace Prize winners are in error when they speak of a certain President who is 'one impulsive tantrum away' from nuclear destruction? Will Trump be receiving his Nobel Peace Prize, Signym? Obama got one to remind him and encourage him to restrain the Pentagon from doing its worst. With the oversized military budgets that Congress gives the Pentagon, and the manner in which Republican Congressmen insist every problem is solvable by killing civilians, I think keeping those generals on a short dog-leash is very hard for a President. He has to tell Congress "No! Down boy!" The Dogs of War are always barking in Congress. Hard work and restraint are not Trump's strongest characteristics unlike Obama, for example.

The U.S. has also conducted more than 100 strikes against Al Qaeda in Yemen in 2017, compared with 38 in 2016. Trump did promise in a campaign speech in 2015 to “bomb the shit” out of ISIS, and he seems to be living up to his word—with little regard for the consequences.

Yes. But instead of insinuating it, I'll say it out loud: If you look at what Presidents DO, instead of what they SAY, you'll see that Trump has caused less destruction than Obama. So far, they're wrong.

Quote:

Will Trump be receiving his Nobel Peace Prize, Signym?
Kissinger got a Nobel Peace Prize even tho he's a convicted war criminal. Obama got one because he was the first half-black President of the USA... even tho he hadn't actually DONE anything to deserve one by then. The Peace Prize is, as far as I can tell, far too politicized to actually mean anything.

It's just the disconnect that's necessary to keep up the narrative. Facts no longer have any relevance because acknowledging even just a part of one of them could expose their always-hypocritical thinking and possibly bring the entire house of cards down.

As long as they keep the brain shut down and base their existence and actions entirely around "feels" than anything is possible.

1) Nazis
2) Russian puppets
3) Pedophiles

4) Republicans are the World's worst at understanding the news. Republicans don't believe what they read or watch on TV.

5) Labor force participation rate for American prime-age men and women, aged 25-54, is the lowest in the First World. The World is going up-up-up and Republicans are going down-down-down. What is wrong with you Republicans? Think you're too superior to work at a bad job with low pay? (That describes half the jobs in America.) You'd rather do nothing more than bitch and moan constantly and vote once every 4 years?

I am in Texas. 6ixStringJack is in Indiana. Find somebody in Indiana that will pay 6 a higher wage. If his fellow Indianans won't pay attention to his problems, are you really and truly expecting the President born in Queens, NY, who doesn't know him, to give more attention to him than people who are familiar with him?

Did you vote for Trump? Do you defend Trump? A yes to either makes you a Republican. And about the shitty job: half the jobs in America are dirty, shitty jobs. And these jobs still have to be done despite that. The only variable is the pay. Republicans are opposed to raising the minimum wage. Democrats are not. The Republicans in Congress will fight any increase. Consider that.

LOL... very true.

As long as they keep the brain shut down and base their existence and actions entirely around "feels" than anything is possible.

Remember when all Republicans were Russian puppets?

Yeah... that's so last month.

Yes. I've been called a Nazi on this board quite a few times by Reaverfan and Wishy, as well as a misogynist by you, T and Wishy. I've also been accused by JO several times of being on Putin's payroll.

Anybody who virtue signals on a daily basis. Anyone throwing around the word Nazi like it doesn't have any real meaning. Anyone who's only argument is to call somebody a Russian Troll... for starters.

Not so much for facts, but Trump watches TV to gather ‘Ammunition’ for his tweets.
http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/trump-prodigious-television-news
-consumption-new-york-times-report

A New York Times report Saturday detailed President Donald Trump’s complicated relationship with TV news and his heavy consumption of it.

People close to Trump estimate that he spends “at least four hours a day, and sometimes as much as twice that, in front of a television,” sometimes on mute, “marinating in the no-holds-barred wars of cable news and eager to fire back.”

Trump reportedly begins his day around 5:30 each morning tuning into TV in the White House’s master bedroom. He flips to CNN for news, moves to “Fox & Friends” for “comfort and messaging ideas,” and sometimes MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” because it “fires him up for the day.”

Aides also monitor “Fox & Friends” in the morning “the way commodities traders might keep tabs on market futures to predict the direction of their day.” They’ve learned that if Trump does not immediately tweet about “something memorable” on Fox, he may be saving it for later viewing on his “Super TiVo” recorder and instead watch MSNBC or CNN live—both of which put him “in a foul mood to start the day.”

The funny part is that Trump's unaware of what he is doing:
Quote:

“I know they like to say—people that don’t know me—they like to say I watch television,” Trump said. “People with fake sources—you know, fake reporters, fake sources. But I don’t get to watch much television, primarily because of documents. I’m reading documents a lot.”

Trump’s constant need to consume TV is reportedly chronic enough that one former top adviser told NYT that he “grew uncomfortable after two or three days of peace and could not handle watching the news without seeing himself on it.”

Hey, I think you liberal neocons should get your story straight because according to GSTRING, the employment picture is GREAT! GREAT! GREAT!

Why? You can't stand by the comments that you made six short months ago? Are you hoping people will forget what you said six short months ago? Brain too thoroughly washed to retain POV more than two weeks? Ready to switch "enemies" the moment the MSM points in another direction?

Yanno, for what I thought was just a throw-away post which only says what I've been saying ever since the "Russian troll" (fake) meme took hold here, this sure has gotten a lot of traction. But it doesn't deserve this kind of attention! There's a real simple lesson here:

Propaganda and lies can be fought with facts and truth. You shouldn't have to be limited to name-calling, which is what kindergarteners do, to make your point ... if indeed you have a point to make. There should be an equivalent to "Godwin's law"...

Quote:

there is a tradition in many newsgroups and other Internet discussion forums that once such a comparison [to Hitler or Nazis] is made, the thread is finished and whoever mentioned Adolf Hitler has automatically lost whatever debate was in progress. This principle is itself frequently referred to as Godwin's law

... for ALL such comparisons, including "anti-Semite", "Russian troll", "Nazi", "bomb-throwing terrorist", and "(fill in the hated group here) because in reality you HAVE lost the debate when you get to that point.

Anyway, it's a boring topic by now and there are a lot more important things to discuss. THUGR, GSTRING, JO, SECOND, KRAPO, WISHY ... learn from it or not, it's up to you.

If there were Russian Trolls posting on this thread, they would be serving their country, earning their living, and writing well. If those "Russian Trolls" are Americans, then they are writing well and nothing more. Take your choice.

Since we dragged in American employment, I got an article about that:
Pessimism and Paralysis in the Aftermath of the Financial Crisis
www.nytimes.com/2017/12/09/opinion/pessimism-and-paralysis-in-the-afte
rmath-of-the-financial-crisis.html

The latest job report was very good, except for one thing: wage growth is still much lower than it was before the financial crisis. And this reminds me of a controversy that raged around four or five years ago, during what now seems like a golden age – an era when it seemed as if facts and reasoned debate might actually matter for policy.

Anyway, at the time unemployment was still very high compared with its pre-crisis level, and some of us were urging strong policies – especially infrastructure spending — to boost demand. But some economists argued that high unemployment was “structural” – that there was a mismatch between the skills the workforce had and those the economy needed. This was probably a minority view within the profession, but was pretty much dominant among Beltway pundits.

The structural view had clear policy implications, because if you believed it the case for employment-boosting stimulus was much weaker than if you believed that high unemployment really, truly represented lots of Americans willing to work.

Anti-structuralists – demand siders? – tried to point out that if the structural story were true, there should be a lot of upward pressure on the wages of those workers who did have the right skills; in fact, nobody was seeing much in the way of wage gains. But this argument made little headway among Serious People.

But here we are: there hasn’t been a significant change in the skills of the workforce, but unemployment is now lower than it was in 2007, and wage growth is still low. The demand siders were right.

Does it matter? After all, at this point we are indeed more or less back to full employment, although those wage numbers suggest that we still have a bit further to go. But we spent a long time with supernormal unemployment: it was 9 years before the unemployment rate got back down to its December 2007 level of 4.7 percent, and the average rate over that period was 7.3 percent. Using Okun’s Law, this implies something like average underutilization of capacity by 5 percent over that period – so a loss of 45 percent of one year’s GDP, say $8 trillion.

And this $8 trillion loss didn’t have to happen: adequate, sustained stimulus could have eliminated most of it.

So why did the structuralist view prevail? There was some left-right aspect, as there is with everything these days – any analysis suggesting that the government can do positive things is automatically rejected by half the political spectrum. But there was also the problem Keynesian economics always faces: it just doesn’t sound serious enough to Serious People. The idea that mass unemployment is fundamentally just a problem of inadequate demand – that all we have is magneto trouble – and that it is easily solved by spending more, sounds too easy.

I’d like to think that the way things turned out would serve as a lesson in future crises. But I wouldn’t bet on it.

I know full well when I've won the point.

A) The person (usually Second), quotes me and deflects with something completely unrelated.

B) The person (T, G, Wishy, Second) quotes me and replies with nothing but insults and/or brings up my drinking from last year.

C) The person (usually G) stops posting altogether.

Though these things don't necessarily mean a win 100% of the time, none of these behaviors are winning traits.

6ixStringJack, in your mind and imagination you won, but not in reality, not in Indiana, and certainly not in Texas.

6ixStringJack, you have a poorly paid job now and long periods of unemployment because people don't believe Keynesian Economics. Why don't they? Because it requires government spending to increase during job slumps and that is the opposite of what Republicans do. What really angers Republicans is that Keynesian Economics also requires government to increase taxes on the people who are prospering too much, the 1 Percenters. Keynesian Economics does not fall into the trap of believing cost-free adjustments to foreign trade agreements like NAFTA will create enough high pay factory jobs for everyone because that doesn't actually work, despite Republicans (and especially Trump) imagining it does.

I've long given up trying to reason with her, and I practically was begging her nearly a year ago to stop the behavior and/or seek some help.

Other than stuff I don't even remember saying when I was drunk, I take no responsibility in our current relationship. I've asked what I did to her to make her act this way toward me and she just attacked me again. I'm done with her.

There is no argument: PolitiFact on Tuesday named President Trump’s stance on Russia’s influence on the 2016 election as its “Lie of the Year,” and a poll of the website’s readers backed the choice by a wide margin.

It seems unlikely — though not impossible — that Russia interference changed the outcome of the election. We at PolitiFact have seen no compelling evidence that it did so.

Trump could acknowledge the interference happened while still standing by the legitimacy of his election and his presidency — but he declines to do so. Sometimes he’ll state firmly there was "no collusion" between his campaign and Russia, an implicit admission that Russia did act in some capacity. Then he reverts back to denying the interference even happened.

It’s not so much that Trump trades in falsehoods — it’s more that he tries to create a different version of reality simply by asserting it.

That denial is of a different order from most presidential posturing, said Nicholas Burns, who served as ambassador to NATO under President George W. Bush.

"I've worked for both parties," Burns said during public testimony to the Republican-controlled Congress this summer. "It's inconceivable to me that any of President Trump's predecessors would deny the gravity of such an open attack on our democratic system.

"I don't believe any previous American president would argue that your own hearings in the Senate are a waste of time or, in the words of President Trump, a witch hunt. They're not; you're doing your duty, that the people elected you to do."

Don't ever stop selling Trump's version of reality, Signym. If you sell to enough voters, he will get reelected in 2020 and that is very important to the GOP, me, and the other 1 Percenters.

SECOND, the more serious allegations ... that Russia "hacked" the DNC server or that Trump "colluded" with Russia because of blackmail ... are ridiculous.

The other allegations ... that RT promoted the "Russian POV" (that's what they're supposed to do) or that FB hosted (maybe) $50,000 worth of (maybe) Russian-based ads are irrelevant or ineffectual. To agree that Russia "interfered" with the elections is like saying that my spitting into Hurricane Harvey made the flooding worse. TECHNICALLY it raised the water levels, but the effect would be immeasurably tiny.

McMaster rips Russian 'campaigns of subversion'

WASHINGTON — President Trump’s national security adviser, Lt. Gen. H.R. McMaster, accused Russia on Tuesday of waging “campaigns of subversion” against the United States and its allies. McMaster also announced that Trump would unveil his first formal National Security Strategy on Dec. 18.

McMaster’s comments about Moscow amounted to unusually sharp criticism from an aide to Trump, who since taking office has repeatedly said he wants better relations with President Vladimir Putin.

I see your point. It might have made no difference to the election.

But there are measurable aftershocks, although very faint. One example: Rex Tillerson acknowledged in a closed-door meeting with U.S. diplomats on Tuesday that Russia “interfered in democratic processes here,” something President Trump still describes as “fake news” intended to delegitimize his presidency. Rex might get fired is the aftershock. When he is fired will be another aftershock of little consequence.

NY Times Frets About Russian Propaganda, Ignores Massive Troll Farms Run by America and Its Allies

Adam Johnson
Fri, Dec 22, 2017

An op-ed by the president of the right-wing human rights group Freedom House, published in the New York Times Monday (12/11/17)—later boosted by New York Times chief White House correspondent Peter Baker—warned of the menace of “commentators, trolls, bots, false news sites and propaganda,” and their negative effects on democracy. Missing from its analysis was any account of how the government that funds its organization (86 percent of Freedom House’s budget comes from the US government, primarily the State Department and USAID) uses social media to stir unrest and undermine governments worldwide.

What the reader was left with was a very selective, curated impression that online social media manipulation is something done exclusively by brown and black people and those dastardly Slavs. The column condemns “surreptitious techniques pioneered in Moscow and Beijing to use the internet to drown out dissent and undermine free elections,” going on to cite online skullduggery in the Philippines, Kenya, Turkey, Mexico and Iran.

Missing from the piece by Freedom House’s Michael Abramowitz is any mention of numerous reports detailing online manipulation by US and allied governments and Western PR firms.

No mention of the Defense Department’s $100 million program Operation Earnest Voice software that “creates fake online identities to spread pro-American propaganda.” No mention of the US Air Force’s 2010 solicitation of “persona management” software designed to create hundreds of sock puppets, “replete with background, history, supporting details and cyber presences that are technically, culturally and geographically consistent.” No mention of USAID (the same government agency, incidentally, that funds Freedom House) secretly creating an entire social media platform to “stir unrest” in Cuba. No mention of the US State Department’s newly created $160 million Global Engagement Center, targeting English-language audiences with unattributed Facebook videos combating, in part, “Russia propaganda.”

Nor was there mention of the UK’s “team of Facebook warriors,” “skilled in psychological operations and use of social media to engage in unconventional warfare in the information age,” or reference to the half-dozen reports of Israeli troll farms promoting pro-Israel propaganda online.

The op-ed had a particular focus on “governing parties” using covert online tools to “inflate their popular support and essentially endorse themselves,” warning that this “devastating new threat to democracy” is used to “undermine elections, political debate and virtually every other aspect of governing.” Yet there was no acknowledgment of the fact that the Hillary Clinton campaign spent $1 million in the 2016 primary to promote its candidate using unattributed social media personas. Nor was there mention of a torrent of pro-Trump bots that infected the 2016 campaign on social media.

Instead, the piece primarily consists of little insight or larger discussion as to the scope of the problem. “The United States and other democracies” are positioned as the victims of online manipulation, never its author. Amid platitudes about “the future of democracy” and “malevolent actors,” the West’s place as noble defenders of Real Information online is simply taken for granted, with, by implication, their ideological satellites—like Freedom House—as neutral arbiters of what is and isn’t propaganda, never practitioners of propaganda themselves.

The US Department of Defense admitted in 2011 that it runs fake social media accounts in Farsi; the vast majority of Farsi speakers live in Iran. What were these accounts doing? Did they influence any elections there? Does Freedom House ask these questions, much less attempt to answer them? Of course not; Iran can only be guilty of “[manipulating] discussions…on social media,” never the victim of it.

Should the New York Times have disclosed that the author of a piece ab

That's the thing about Russia trying to influence our election: They didn't have to be incredibly effective to be bad. That was a bow shot. They found a great new digital toy and we fell asleep. Believe me, I'd be every bit as pissed if it helped Hillary. I almost feel lilt they tipped their hand a bit early.

And of course we try and influence other people's elections, duh. If anyone tries and bring that up as a defense of Russia's manipulations then A) olde news skippy, and B) you're defending Russia.

How did we fall asleep ? Specifically, by what means did they " INFLUENCE " our election ? Walk me through the A,B,C's of how this had any measurable impact on the election. If you can.

Obama used his campaign resources to personally try to influence the Israeli elections. It failed. And that was overt, direct cash payments and use of WH manpower , not some ethereal mind control web endeavor.

Defense of Russia doing WHAT, exactly ? No one knows what they did, or how it influenced ANYTHING !!!

G - I feel we're talking past each other. The premise that the Russians ' tampered' with the election is as open ended in meaning as asking what's the meaning of life.

Depends on who you ask. And that's my problem w/ this witch hunt focusing on Trump. Every one of the primary players in charge of the investigation is a loyal Obama or Hillary supporter. That's not exaggeration or hyperbole. The lead investigator stated it plainly enough in his text to his MISTRESS, the other FBI agent he was having an affair with at the time. ( dunno if they're still knocking boots ) Seems there was a time when such activity alone would be enough to get you tossed out of the FBI, or demoted to lower status, but that's an aside.

Claims of reports by Vanity Fair is hardly convincing. Meanwhile, we had hard evidence of Hillary's " ducks on the ground " campaign to stir up violence and cause trouble at Trump rallies, complete w/ names and video of actual players who participated, so claiming some Russians may have ( dubious ) organized pro Trump rallies really falls short.

Take this sentence -

" Though most Russian efforts unveiled thus far seem to have been aimed at weaponizing the far right, the existence of BlackMattersUS indicates Russian agents were equally motivated to infiltrate the far left in order to amplify partisan divides that would simultaneously energize Trump’s base and disillusion Hillary’s "

Note the language being used... " weaponizing " the far right. Weaponizing is what Obama did to the IRS with Lois Lerner and harassing the TEA party groups. And how does the writer KNOW that such efforts to infiltrate the far Left would only energize the Right, but disillusion the Left ? They have to admit that what ever the Russians did, it was to mess with ALL of us , and yet the focus is ONLY on Trump ?

This is a fairy tale, generated out of sheer hate and anger that Trump won, and Hillary lost.

Hillary's UraniumONE deal and the ties she had as SecState and The Clinton Foundation are the REAL story here. All this noise about Trump / Russia is nothing but a massive smoke screen.

* Obama thought he could influence the Israeli election because he thought he could oust Netanyahu. And it DID almost work.

I just can't believe that was motivation for any of this. No one cared that much for HIllary to keep working this hard on her behalf after that big of a stink bomb went off around her. That was a historic loss. She went into hiding. Who's paying them? What's their angle? They have other jobs and real lives to live that include doing anything that doesn't have her bad karma attached.
Sorry, I think the big scary Hillary revenge machine is as big a fiction as the "Deep State" - just convenient Bogey men that no one can disprove.

Tell that to the folks in the FBI. Aside from loving Hillary, they were openly aggressive to the IDEA of Trump winning. Their own texts reveal their true thoughts. I don't have to invent anything, because it literally is in their own words.

Carrying on the Obama era policies is also why those in the Deep State were so motivated to push this bogus investigation. No one can disprove ? It's right out in the open, for all to see ! Just open your eyes !

This isn't about Hillary, except she was a tried and true deep-stater that tptb wanted to put in place.

The CIA has a series of strategies for soft-coups escalating to military action if needed (Confessions of an Economic Hit Man), and what's being done to Trump is literally a textbook example.

As far as Trump's plan to normalize relations with Russia, whatever his motivation was (common-sense survival ie it pays to not get into a nuclear pissing-match with Russia --to-- personal business interests) it's over. And the anti-Trump propaganda has dropped from a pyroclastic-volcanic level to a mere blurping mud-pot level accordingly.

Politically, Russian relations were an anomaly in the Trump campaign, as nobody in his population 'base' or his political party was for it. Given the war the Deep State launched on Trump because of it, he dropped that right quick, and is now focusing exclusively on his domestic agenda, which aligns much more closely with his areas of political support.

And just because one side is wrong, it doesn't make the other side right. Or the third side, either. I'll leave it unstated who is Hillary, Trump, and the Deep State in the mathematical equation T not equals G, H not equals T, D not equals G, does not mean H equals G.
