Peter Capaldi has been , from what I understand, a disappointing Doctor. I personally think he's fine, in most ways, though of the 4 iterations since the series reboot, I have to say he's been my least fav. Not that I don't like him, or his take on being The Doctor. Mostly, I blame what he was given, development wise as well as below average stories. His lack of chemistry w/ Clara, imho, really did put the show in a rut for a while.

Current season, I like the new additions. Bill ( Pearl Mackie ) sorta reminds me of Martha Jones, with her feisty attitude. I think she's been under utilized, much like the 12th Doctor, but to a lesser degree.

Nardole - even though I'm still fuzzy on the how and why he's found his way on the TARDIS , I think he's a great addition.

Questions I have though, for the recent eps of Season 10...

Why did The Doctor go so full out to convince Bill that she had killed him, even to the point of 'faking' his regeneration process ? Does Bill even KNOW about that aspect of Time Lords ?

And where the hell did Missy / The Master come from ? Did they ever come around to explain that one ?

I think the issue is less of Capaldi being weak than the others being so strong.

With the reboot, Eccleston was the first, Tennant was the best, and Smith was (in the long run) the one with the deepest story. Very tough competition for Capaldi.

I haven't watched the newest season yet (saving up to binge in the last two weeks or so before the finale), but Capaldi overall seems like a throwback to the more traditional Doctor Who. In that sense, he straddles both worlds, which puts him in a position where it's difficult to excel in either.

Personally, I like Capaldi as a dramatic difference from Smith... but I also won't be sorry to see him go. He's had a solid run, but Doctor Who is ever-changing, and I look forward to seeing what comes next.

He is a throw back, and partly because of that, as well as a lack of vision with how Moffatt et al wanted to use him , is why I think the fans didn't take to him as well as hoped.

12 came out edgy, gruff, a bit unpredictable. Unfortunately, that didn't jive well at all w/ Clara. Of all the companions, I think Donna would have been the best fit. They really could have been a squabbling married couple / comedy team.

9, 10 and 11 all seemed to revel in the mysterious wonder of all that was to be found... in everything. 12 ? Bitter. Angry. Annoyed at everything nothing in particular.

I really do feel that , as 12 has progressed, and softened up a bit, he's grown more likable. I still feel the writing has been sub par, and for that , 12 has suffered for it the most. The others before him could endure poor writing because of their charm, their sometimes childlike ability to turn a bad situation into almost a game. Not so much w/ 12. Again, not blaming Capaldi one bit. I think he's been a solid doctor. Just a bit... out of time ?

I agree. Capaldi was solid and if he had good scripts to work with, he could have been great. However...

Before I get to my main point, I just wanna start with...

The last Capaldi episode was darn good. Story telling and writing wise, I have no qualms with how the show will go forward. Overall, it's in fine hands.

Jodie Whittaker is simply fine. I saw her in Broadchurch, and then again ( though not realizing she was the same actor ) in Black Mirror. Super capable in every respect for signing on w/ the Dr Who 'verse. No qualms from me, save for one...

The Doctor is NOT female. Sorry, he just isn't. 50 + years and 13 prior Doctors ( counting John Hurt ) proves me right. The Doctor is more than just a character, he's a well established brand. Dress him up in any outfit, young or old, he's still THE Doctor. Choosing to take that away from him, ( and the fans ) simply out of some need to appease the SJW tyrants and PC hysteria, is simply the wrong thing to do.

Sadly, what we have here is character appropriation.

It's the 'easy' way out, of elevating a woman , a female , to the status that's taken all the Doctors 50 years to establish. It wasn't until the 11th Doctor did we even get a glimmer of a thought that canon could be changed and gender swapping could be a " thing " in the Gallifreyian / Time Lord construct.

I feel bad for true fans of the show. And many of those who claim it's fine or feign enthusiasm for this are simply doing so because it's " cool ", as 11 would say, to sidle up w/ the whacky idea. Yes, sure! Anything as long as Doctor Who says it's ok!

Further... there's been talk of making ' Bond ' a black guy, or even a woman. Again, more character appropriation. All in the name of " progress ".

I've nothing against Idris Elba BEING his own action hero. A spy, even a 00 agent. But he's not James Bond !! Never will be, either.

And what the hell was all that nonsense about Thorina or what ever ? A female Thor ? What a colossal failure THAT turned out to be !

People that care if a character has boobs or balls are just plain shallow.

Why is it 'shallow' ? You're denying them their essence of who they are. Men and women are different. Unless you're some anti-science nutjob.

Sorry, but there's no 'growing up ' required here. Things are as they are. Period. The real adult has to come to terms with realities like that.
