Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children

A year later, I finally got around to watching this one, and wow... what a disappointment.
Dunno how any of these movies follow the source material, but I get the feeling this was about as good as could be expected. Meaning the orignal book possibly is rubbish. Might be wrong.
Generally, my issue with such movies deals w/ the peculiarities of said children, much like the various ' mutant powers' we see in X-Men. They're ridiculous. And yes, I do view this as a cheesy rip off of both X-Men and Harry Potter, as there are elements of ' magic ' in this story which go beyond ' peculiar ' features.
I thought some of the writing was flat out abysmal, particularly between the dad character ( Frank ) and how he interacted w/ Jake, the lead.
I get it. I'm well beyond the target demo for who this movie was made. But I have to think that even those who were suppose to enjoy it saw through some of the same plot holes. ( They might have been more interesting , had they been more coherently developed. )
Had hoped for much more from Eva Green after Penny Dreadful, and I guess I'm still going to have to wait.

Yeah, you expected too much. Pretend you are 10 and can't question the plot. In fact, let's just do that with EVERYTHING made this year...

Yeah... I just try to compare them to movies I saw when I was the target age.
They can't all be The Goonies. Sometimes you're going to sit through "Mac and Me".

Mac and Me... ugh. As clear a rip off of a successful movie as there's ever been. No doubt , one of the worst movies ever made.
Miss P's Home isn't in that category, thankfully.
I never got the fuss over The Goonies. Kinda like Transformers, and a bunch of other lame kid's shows that continue to find their way to the big screen. Ninja Turtles, Power Rangers.... when do we get an 21st century version of Ultra Man?
On second thought, Speed Racer was tried, and no one needs another disaster like that.

I think you had to be a kid when Goonies came out. Probably didn't hurt that I had two brothers right around my age too. That was one of the flicks we recorded off of cable TV and watched so much we wore the tape out.
Watching this makes it seem even stupider, but I still love it.

I had pretty much the same reaction. It was incoherent (I thought that maybe it was me, since I fell asleep after watching 3/4 of this movie). I was thoroughly disappointed because I expected a lot more from Tim Burton, as well as the same folk you mentioned.
I had no interest in watching the final fourth of this movie, I just didn't care.
Maybe when it comes on Netflix.

Ugh! The Lone Ranger......when I was a kid, that was one of my all-time favs; well that and Zorro (The Disney version). I even remember the theme song.
When you're a kid, entertainment is totally different than when you're an adult.
