ETA - The girl who played Joy was actually a bit older ( 20 ) and taller (5'9") than she appears to be on screen. I would've taken her to be a teenager , maybe 16 or 17? And on the shorter side, say 5'4".

It's one of my all time favorite movies, but like I said, I don't know if that's just heavy nostalgia or not. It was magic when I was a kid though. Music in a lot of movies was just so good back then, and The Goonies was among the best of the best for kids movies back then. I was never into pirate movies or anything like that, so that part of the movie didn't do anything for me, but the exploration type movies like Indiana Jones were awesome and I saw this movie at the age where I was still so willing to explore everything in search of hidden treasure. Me and my bro and one of my best friends actually went a few miles into a storm sewer system exploring with nothing but oil soaked rags and a couple of flashlights and had water up to our thighs. Why would anybody but a dumb kid do something like that? lol
I'm also not sure if its a movie that girls would get into that much. I didn't have any sisters so I can't say that a girl my age at the time would have been into it at all. It's possible though since unlike a lot of other movies from the time the girls were actually part of the action and not just some damsel in distress that needed saving.

I'm fairly certain my brother saw it and a couple of friends of mine from high school as well. I liked Cyndi Lauper's music but my brother had a couple of her albums. He was really into her music.
Yeah. I wasn't even talking about the songs by Cyndi that were in the movie. I was more talking about the ambient music that was played throughout the whole flick. It was right up there with The Never Ending Story.
Cyndi's song Good Enough from The Goonies is one of my guilty pleasures though. I don't know how anybody can listen to that song and not be happy.

Goonies ? I don't think I even sat through the entire movie. Seen bits of it, here and there, got the gist of it, but it just didn't hold my attention.
Short Circuit was more entertaining, imo, but that's not saying much.
