Comey is a side show.

He wasn't last week. He was the great vindicator that was going to unmask Trump for the treasonous Russia collaborator you all knew he was.

The GOP had already made up its collective mind last year, long before Comey spoke.

The FBI chief he fired called the president a liar, but the response from many Republicans was a collective shrug. The GOP still needs Donald Trump if it has any hope of accomplishing its legislative agenda and winning elections, and it's going to take more than James Comey's testimony to shake them.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Friday boasted of the GOP's accomplishments under Trump thus far, and promised more to come, making no mention of Comey in a speech. A group of House conservatives discussed taxes and the budget, with no reference to Comey or the federal investigations into Russia's election meddling and possible collusion with the Trump campaign.

Elsewhere, there were few outward signs of concern from the top Republican officials, donors and business leaders who gathered largely behind closed doors in Park City, Utah, for a conference hosted by former presidential candidate Mitt Romney.

"The people in this room, who give money to the Republican Party and who are focused on helping get Republicans elected, they do it because they believe in an agenda," Spencer Zwick, House Speaker Paul Ryan's fundraising chief, said in an interview. As for the Comey testimony, "there's nothing we can do about it," Zwick said.

It all underscored what's become a hardening dynamic of the Trump presidency: Republicans on Capitol Hill and off are mostly sticking with the president despite the mounting scandals and seemingly endless crises that surround him.

Though some are privately concerned, and frustration is regularly voiced about the president's undisciplined administration and the distractions he creates, Republicans have scant incentive to abandon him now. Trump's signature remains key to the still-nascent GOP agenda, and he has the ability to appoint judges to lifetime appointments, a thrilling prospect for conservatives.

And, despite Trump's low approval ratings nationally, his core base of supporters remains firmly behind him. Those voters will be key to the GOP's success in next year's midterms when Republicans will be defending a fragile majority in the House and looking to pick up seats in the Senate, thanks to a favorable map that has a large group of Democratic incumbents up for re-election in states that voted for Trump.

Republicans won't abandon Trump, no matter what Mueller finds or Comey says before election day, Tuesday, November 6 2018, because that will screw up their plans. Don't change horses in midstream -- Abe Lincoln

Yes it will. Especially when there was nothing in James Comey's testimony was particularly damning of Trump.

Whiny opinions and coulda, woulda, shoulda's from a coward who made the wrong decision every step of the way and got himself fired don't count as anything substantial.

You moved to "Next" too fast. Did you forget Robert Mueller? He would not have been appointed if Comey had not been fired. Your understanding misses all the most important information. I expect Trump to fire Mueller, too. That is the most straightforward way to shutdown the investigation. Give Trump a few months to build his outrage at Mueller asking for documents, Trump refusing, and the firing will seem inevitable.

I fear that you are correct, 2nd. The GoPs hav repeatedly found lower depths to sink to after I thot theyd hit bottom.

Russian tanks will be parked on the Wite House lawn befor they finally think they need to dial down the party loyalty and turn their patriotizm back on. Too late.

Trump might not fire Mueller this year since Mueller works so slowly. Trump will have years before anything official comes out about Russia from Mueller's office, although if there are leaks, Trump might get enraged and fire Mueller early. No one knows, not even Trump, what Trump will do:

"Bob Mueller's investigation is just beginning," says Kevin Andrew Chambers, white collar partner at Latham & Watkins and former Assistant US Attorney in DC. "It is far too early for anyone to speculate where he will end up and folks should get comfortable with the fact that it could be a couple years before he reports his findings. Remember, he is a career prosecutor. His focus will be on accumulating and reviewing the entire body of evidence rather than fixating on any one document, witness, or event."

If indeed there IS anything to come out.

And despite all the leaks, the moaning, the histrionics, the many, many. MANY unsubstantiated claims that have been spun into mountains of fluff like cotton candy - nothing substantive has been revealed to date.

You just can't wait for evidence to validate that your beliefs have some basis in reality, can you SECOND?

Well, I hope you enjoy your stay in loony land, with the rest of the unhinged deluded. Just don't stay too long, or it'll become your permanent residence.

Yep J0. It's party loyalty. That's why I was so supportive of almost everything GWB did.

Comey didn't fail at exposing Trump's "ties" with Russia. It turns out he wasn't even investigating Trump's ties with Russia. Rachel Maddow and your boy Olbermann kept saying he was, and he would, but even you admitted the day before the testimony that it wasn't going to be the bombshell that the Left has been looking for.

Time to show some evidence. Because at this point, yes... It would take Russian tanks on the White House lawn for me to believe it. People should go back to their lives instead of MSM conspiracy theories.

Another stupidity from SECOND.
Guess what? THE FBI INVESTIGATION CONTINUES, WITH OR WITHOUT MUELLER.

Quote:

"The Russia investigation will continue," says a former FBI cybercrimes investigator, who spoke with WIRED on the condition of anonymity. "The director doesn’t run the investigation, the assistant director doesn’t run it, the unit chiefs don’t run it. There's a case agent or a series of case agents assigned to run it all the way through."

That means that, at least until Congress approves Comey's replacement, the investigation should continue undaunted

Until or unless the FBI investigation is shut down by Comey's replacement ... much like Comey shut down the Hillary investigation ... it goes on.

IF this is the "important information" that I missed, that statement isn't "information", it's "speculation". Just OOC, SECOND, if your speculation doesn't come true, will you admit that you were wrong and change a single jot of any of your prejudices?

I doubt it.
