Best Films of 2016 So Far

Well, by the end of the year we should be able to think of 10 films that were best for this year. Often in the fall there is an onslaught of quality works, or at least hyped ones, and we don't want to forget the entries from the beginning of the year. Plus, by this time we should have at least 5 films in mind that could be contenders.

So which 5-10 films so far in 2016 do you think are the best?

Without thinking too much about it, I'll start with:

Midnight Special
Jason Bourne
Deadpool
13 Hours
Hilliary's America
Free State of Jones
Jane Got a Gun
10 Cloverfield Lane
London Has Fallen

OK, thought about it more and came up with 10. I'll assume some of them will become superseded before the end of the year.

Nobody else has seen a film that might be a 10 Best of the year?

DeadPool is No. 1
Star Trek: Beyond
Captain America: Civil War
10 Cloverfield Lane
Midnight Special

Off the top of my head, those are the Best 5 of the year, up to now.

I can add Rogue One to my list. Maybe Passengers.

Need to think more on it.

Sully was also very good. But maybe not as compelling after the first viewing.

Not a banner year, in my opinion.

1) Rogue One - revived my faith in Star Wars.

2) Trolls - a surprisingly clever "post-Disney" princess movie. The most fun trolls have been since Shrek.

3) Suicide Squad - Not as good as Guardians of the Galaxy, but, for me, at least, a much better movie than Deadpool. But then, I love the whole " bunch of people in varying shades of gray" thing.

4) Now You See Me 2 - The original is head and shoulders better than the sequel, but this merits a slot if only for the "card" scene. Definitely worth a watch!

5) Office Party / Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates - Hard to pick just one of these, since they're reminiscent of two of my comedic favorites from the past decade or so (Horrible Bosses and Wedding Crashers).

6) Central Intelligence - Probably the best action comedy of the year. The tagline alone - "Sometimes it takes a little Hart and a big Johnson" - is award-worthy.

7) Moana - Neither as thematically pure as Frozen not as fun as Tangled, it's a really good Disney movie nonetheless. The music isn't as catchy as some recent flicks, but grows on you over time.

8) Magnificent Seven - A number of great performances (Denzel, Pratt, and especially Hawke). Ultimately, though, it doesn't explore new territory in the Western genre, which is waht puts it so low on the list.

9) Captain America - Civil War / Doctor Strange - Both good, neither spectacular. They are definitely enjoyable movies, but the genre is getting tired. Still, better than DC's entries.

10) Kubo and the Two Strings - This one has a spot at the bottom of the list because I'm still not sure if I liked it, but it was definitely compelling viewing.

From your list, I agree with Rogue One and maybe Office Party - too many better than it.
But you have me intrigued by Kubo now.
Not sure if you and I have vastly different tastes, or viewing habits.
