I think I might put Hacksaw Ridge in my top ten of the year.
And I'm not sure yet if Arrival is the best of the year or not - I'll be seeing it again tomorrow, I hope.

I'm pretty sure it's both.
To put it in perspective, of the original 10 you posted mid-year, I have seen 6, of which I found three dead boring, and three somewhat entertaining but not enough to make the cut for me.
Of the remaining four, I have one in my netflix queue and an active desire to NOT see the others.
Some of my viewing habits are shaped by my 7-year old daughter (although I would probably still see the big Disney releases without her), and others my how many hours there are in the day.

Excellent info. Thanks.

Well, by the end of the year we should be able to think of 10 films that were best for this year. Often in the fall there is an onslaught of quality works, or at least hyped ones, and we don't want to forget the entries from the beginning of the year. Plus, by this time we should have at least 5 films in mind that could be contenders.
So which 5-10 films so far in 2016 do you think are the best?
Without thinking too much about it, I'll start with:
Criminal
Midnight Special
Jason Bourne
Deadpool
13 Hours
Hilliary's America
Free State of Jones
Jane Got a Gun
10 Cloverfield Lane
London Has Fallen
What say you?
Hacksaw Ridge and Arrival were both better than London Has Fallen, I think, so that one drops off the list. That still leaves 11.
Hidden Figures is in the running, but not quite there.
Although a true story and great history lesson, Free State of Jones did have a bit of slow spots. So dropping that brings me to the Top Ten:
Criminal
Midnight Special
Jason Bourne
Deadpool
13 Hours
Hilliary's America
Jane Got a Gun
10 Cloverfield Lane
Arrival
Hacksaw Ridge

OK, it is already March now, so before we forget how many wonderful films there were last year, post 'em,.
Can we agree that the best Sci-Fi film of 2016 was Arrival?
Or do some still think Midnight Special was better?
Any other contenders in Sci-Fi?
