I will admit that problems don't get solved even though there are affordable solutions because there is money to be made by NOT solving the problems.

For example, China is building expensive new coal-burning power stations it doesn’t need. The average utilization rate of coal plants in China was just 49.4% in 2015. But the low utilization rates haven’t deterred builders, companies, and local authorities from enabling more capacity. China is effectively adding more than one redundant coal power plant each week. I think it is exclusively about money. The people building the coal-burners care NOTHING about electricity or CO2. It's money, money, money all the time and nothing else matters.

China Unveils Proposal for $50 Trillion Global Electricity Network

"BEIJING — China has unveiled a proposal for a $50 trillion global electricity network that would help fight pollution and the effects of climate change.

The plan envisions linking existing and future solar farms, wind turbines and electricity plants in Asia, Europe, Africa and the Americas, according to the head of State Grid Corporation of China.

The proposal is in its initial stages and would require huge investment from around the world. If it goes ahead, it would be the world's largest infrastructure project. It could be operational by 2050, according to backers.

The planet faces "three major challenges" of energy scarcity, environmental pollution and climate change, state-run news agency Xinhua News Agency quoted the firm's chairman Liu Zhenya as saying at an international energy conference on Wednesday."

I think solar collectors in orbit around the Sun beaming microwave energy down to Tibet and Inner Mongolia for producing electricity in China will be thousands of times more likely because that's a plan that doesn't require global cooperation. For $50 trillion, China can launch millions of tonnes of solar collectors into orbit without China being obligated to kiss America's ass every day for permission. How do you say 'you can't take the sky from me' in Chinese?

On second thought, America will see China's gigawatt microwave beams from the sky as a National Security Threat. Chinese Death-rays the Pentagon will say. Just cancel that idea because America will go to war over it.

Polar ice shelves are melting at an accelerated pace, even faster than predicted and observed by top climate scientists. They predicted 2 foot rise in sea level
by 2100, but now they have recalculated their findings and predict sea level rise between 2 - 6 feet by 2100.
