Leaps of Faith

Chapter Ten

Jayne’s been nailin’ away at Emerson’s gang fast as he can clear and chamber rounds, doin’ his best to give the Captain and Zoë the cover they need.

Mal’s voice over the radio jerks him out of his head, launches him into action. He slings the sniper rifle over his back, clambers over the boulders and goes sliding down the loose scree of the slope, blazin’ away with the Deckler and yelling like a banshee.

At the sight of the big merc scrambling downslope, sprayin’ lead, Emerson’s wagon driver yanks the team around and hightails it, figurin’ he’d rather survive and it’s likely his bossman won’t.

The slope’s so steep, it’s all Jayne can do to keep his feet under him. He’s just riding it down on adrenaline, wide open, scramblin’, balls to the wall.

Mal and Zoë continue to return fire, but the low pile of crates doesn’t make for much by way of cover and Zoë’s bleeding hard. Mal glances over at her and tells her “You need to get that arm tied off. Here. “ He tosses her his bandanna.

“An’ Zoë, you aren’t allowed to die on me. That’s an order, you hear?”

She fumbles to bind off her arm one-handedly and grits her teeth. “Yes, Sir.”

The zip and crack of gunfire is all around. Mal peeks over the crates and fires again, trying to catch Emerson when he pops up over the dead horse to make a shot. Jayne’s hail of fire catches Emerson’s rema

Hope they get to Serenity quick..a tourniquet can cost you a limb if it's on too long...
At least they got paid.

Hey all you Anonymous Folks up there - I'm glad you're readin', but it sure would be nice to know who you are, especially if you're regulars. Can't say "Thank you" if I don't know who to wave to, dong ma?

And I did double-check my wound and med info with my buddy Josh the Paramedic, 'cause even I knew tourniquets are risky. Not like Mal had a lot of options here, ya know.

Keep readin' and keep flyin'.

Are you trying to make be crazy? You can't just leave it there!!

You just want everyone to fall at your feet begging, is that it?

*falls to knees and kisses hisgoodgirl's feet*

please, with a strawberry on top? Keep writing!

btw, you write action very well, the movement of the characters and everything is well described and keeps the momentum of the moment going, that said, keep writing...am becoming repetitive, I know...

Oh...Kaylee's gonna be freaking out here:(

And yeah...if the .45 hit an artery, Jayne's chances drop significantly.

I've been reading all along, but I think these last few chapters have been your best yet! Very full, character wize, exciting and... I just love it! Great work!

ArtemisPrime here. Glad to see an update quick-ish after the last post. You've certainly got me hooked with Jayne getting injured, though I am a Jayne fan regardless. I like the emotional build up you have going here and anticipate a longer than normal resolve to it.

Keep it up.

Whew! *wipes brow*

I haven't been neglecting you I swear. I've been out of town over Easter, so I haven't been able to comment on these last few chapters. I'm caught up now, though, and I just want to tell you how fantabulous they are. It's a wonderful adventuresome epic... Now write more! *grin*

Seriously, the amount of Jayne torture around here lately is astounding. I trust you'll have Simon repair him quick smart, and he and Kaylee will finally have that talk.

Oh, and have her smack him for goin' through Emerson's pockets without making sure he was dead first.

Oh no!

Love the action but am worried for Jayne. I like how Zoe & Mal react to each other during the battle and it's aftermath.

“An’ Zoë, you aren’t allowed to die on me. That’s an order, you hear?”

She fumbles to bind off her arm one-handedly and grits her teeth. “Yes, Sir.”

So cool!

I was anonymous #1. I'm just too lazy to log in at the labs.

And Rinny is so right; your characterization has steadily been improving. I've always enjoyed your stories, however lately your characters have moved towards achieving that clear quality that rings true to the original characters we all fell in love with. You see, that is the gift I lack. I can write. I can come up with stories and dialog. Really I can…but whenever I do the characters just sounds like I’m talking to myself. The skill of characterization takes time to develop and some can never get the knack of it down pat. Joyfully you have, so I will continue to grovel and follow your stories like the little lost puppy I am.

I was afraid you were going to do that to Jayne, too! ARG! I'll be waiting in the med bay.
