Lunchbox Back: First Trial

Thursday, March 23, 2006

What I've got so far for the back piece of my Firefly lunchbox. My new paper will be arriving sometime next week hopefully, and I guess I'm getting cold feet. I think I'm fairly happy with this one, but something just feels kind of off somehow. Almost didn't post this, not the least of which was 'cause Ghostrider43 did a very similar composition to this a couple days ago. I swear to Buddha I'm not trying to rip it off, and we must have been working on these at the times or something. Great minds must think alike, though I don't where that puts me :) Anyways, I promise this is the last one I post before the actual finished product. ('Bout time I get this gorramn box finished up, and out of my head :)

oh, and as always, constructive criticism is welcome. trust me, I can take it :)

This is shaping up really well so far! I like the way the images have been arranged. The quote has been nicely placed too.

Constructive criticism: There's only one thing that could be missing. Would an ornate pattern, around the edges or along the bottom, enhance it?

It's still supershiny work NuclearDay! Thanks for uploading!

firefly "glow" the first cap and first few letters at the start of each sentence and have the glow fade and dissapear intot he rest of the sentence. Also make the first cap larger... just my two cents

good start

Just wondering, any particular reason Kaylee (or at least I'm fairly certain that's Kaylee... self doubt is fun :)) is the only one in this? It's lovely... But I would almost leave her out.

I've really enjoyed watching you put the graphics together for this. I can't wait to see the thing.

Would you mind telling us how you did it after it's done?

thanks guys, I'm gonna try out some of those suggestions. far as Kaylee in the lower corner... yyyeeahh... throughout this whole process she's had this habit of popping up just about everywhere :) (you should've seen some of the earlier drafts... I may have to do a Kaylee-themed lunchbox after this one :) this time, I needed something down in that corner to draw the eye around a bit more. so of course, first thing I picked was Kaylee ;p

I've tried another composition that had all the crew on it, and I really wanted to make sure I wasn't focusing on any particular crew member, but alot of those came out a bit... Brady Bunch ;p (Nine panel spread with Mal in the middle :) I might try a couple other things in that corner still, see how it works out.

I think its Keels, not keens. I sail boats and when a boat keels over is when it tips. I assume since they make so many referances to the ships as "Boats" theyd use the same terminology. Other than that (and the aforementioned comment bout Kayle bein the only one in it) its a lovely design.

Very shiny work! I love this whole lunchbox project. :) And you're doing an excellent job of it. I particularly love the good blending on the FireFly and the gaslight glow.

ShadowChild is right, though: it's: "keels". Also, it's not: "as the turning of worlds" (very common misquote), but "as the turn of the worlds." Subtle, but distinctive difference.

I myself would probably take Kaylee out. If it were River, that's one thing, lol; no, but seriously, from a purely artistic point of few, the glow on her head, thought it matches in color, is on the wrong side! (assuming the FireFly glow is the main light source, here). There's shadow where there needs to be light, and vice verse, erm, vice versa. :)

Otherwise, I'm very pleased with the progress. You put, as per the theme, so much Love in it! :)

Two things:
1. Where can I place my order? and what's the asking Price?

LOL

2.I love Kaylee as much as the next person but seeing as this is supposed to be a firefly themed lunchbox I myself would like to see serenity's logo there in place of Kaylee.

You've got the quote spot on! Wording is same as in film. I checked it with the script in the visual companion. (Rant over)

This is just amazing! Can't wait to see the finished product. Like the idea of the Serenity logo in the bottom corner instead of Kaylee.

Wish I had this sort of talent, but i haven't so if you change your mind about selling them, Count Me In.

Sorry just realised how off that first bit sounded, didn't mean it nasty. Just wanted you to know nuclearday got the quote right.

Again SORRY if it seemed mean.

No, nuclearday did NOT have the quote. right. :) Visual companion, you say? No, the book is wrong. This whole conclusion is fallacious. :) Seriously, though, I do not make comments like that lightly. I have the Serenity DVD image permanently mounted on my computer, and double-checked (script + audio + subtitles). And all say: "as the turn of the worlds." Ain't no mistake about it.

Great image nuclearday! And uhm, the quote is: "just as sure as the turning of worlds." There's no doubt about it, the shooting script ain't wrong. :-)
