Title: Whispers in Nightmares III- Some Things Never Change

Author: YouCantStopTheSignal

Fandom: Firefly

Rating: NC17

Disclaimer: I do not own any of the Firefly characters. Joss Whedon does. Thank him. I make no money from any of this.

Notes: I warn you now that this is not going to be a fanfic about the stupid mercenary named Jayne Cobb, who sometimes can’t even form a correct sentence.

This is set after “Objects in Space” but before “Serenity”.

There will be violence, language, etc. should the moment arise.

Would you like to talk more about the fanfic in a thread? Go here: Whispers In Nightmares: General Thread

Enjoy.

Onboard Serenity

Inara’s Shuttle

Kaylee stood at the entrance of Inara’s shuttle, quietly watching the companion flick her finger across the handsome men on the screen in front of her.

“Would you like something Kaylee?” Inara asked gently.

“I wasn’t meanin’ to disturb you Inara.” Kaylee answered back.

Inara turned, setting her hands in her lap; a tender smile was fashioned by her lips as she looked at the young woman.

“You never intrude. Come, sit beside me.” Inara stood, elegantly walking over to a crimson colored bench. She sat, tapping the position next to her. She stopped for a moment, thinking. “Aren’t you supposed to be looking for passengers Kaylee?” Inara asked her head tilted to the side.

Whoa, I knew that there was something wrong with Jayne's backside. But who is this Slade character? Is Jayne an Alliance mole? A spy? I am so hooked on this story, I am begging for more soon!

Hee, love a man named Logan. But Slade?

Regardless, totally fascinating. I can't imagine what Jayne's up to. What purpose this all has...but whatever you're leading to, it can't help but be good!

I'm pretty much concerned about just what the good gorram Jayne or Logan or whatever has got himself into. I am not surprised he has another name or even several what with having been a mercenary and all but I hope his past life doesn't affect his loyalty to the Captain and crew of Serenity. I don't want to find out that our Jayne is a bad guy after all. Ali D :~)

YES! i was so right bout someone being behind them, squee!!! :P and this brand thing is intriguing, i do think you overdid kaylee'd reaction a bit, (i don't think she's THAT emotional) but still a good way to bring the scar in.

lol@ "i like a challange" and ooooo at rose and "logan"

on to the next fic and then i'll have to wait for more :( shiny job!

Really REALLY enjoying this! (It's Jayne-centric--of COURSE I would be!)

Fics that explore Jayne's background are a special favorite of mine; a guilty pleasure that I wish more people would write so that I can indulge in it.

Engaging, nicely paced, with just enough mystery to keep me guessing. Keep up the good work.
