On the eighth day of Christmas my true love gave to me eight maids a milking
Kaylee sat with Jayne’s head on her shoulder while he shivered with the cold. She didn’t know which was worse, the shiverin’ from the cold or the burnin’ with fever.
Yesterday the zhu tou man had insisted on continuing their journey till nightfall. While she knew their lives were at stake Kaylee thought that Jayne should rest up more before continuin’. She’d lost that argument in a big way, Jayne hadn’t been caught by any of her tricks this time. He’d wanted to put as much space between them and the dead bad guys as he could. So he’d kept goin’ and goin’ till they were both exhausted.
Cause they wouldn’t have had to walk so far ‘cept they were avoidin’ the cameras. Kaylee hated the cameras. They tracked every move she and Jayne made and relayed it back to the people who were watchin’ their troubles.
Early on Jayne had got her to explain to him how the ta ma de-ing things worked and between them they’d figured out a way round them. The route they plotted took them much longer but they were safer. No-one could relay their position if no-one knew where they were. Their enemies would not know how injured he was and take advantage.
No-one was goin’ to take advantage of either of them if Kaylee could help it. She knew Jayne was really sick when he had handed her a gun and asked her to keep watch. Blue eyes hazy with fever, body wracked with shivers he’d been worried about her and the gun, she knew it.
“I’ll fire it if I have to” she promised him with determination.
And he lay down and went to sleep.

Mal looked around uncomfortably; they had had no trouble infiltrating the viewing room on this benighted moon.
Sir Warwick and Inara’s contacts had proved valuable. The booth they were sitting in was one of the best; it gave them a good view of the whole room, even though it was too open for his taste.
The opulent room left him cold; everything was too rich, too tasteful and it w
The only thing that I'm a little hazy on is the last bit about Kaylee, it kinda seemed to come out of no where. But even so...wonderful just as it is.
*frowning* Jayne sick? Uh, oh.
Jayne sick, uh oh!! How's Kaylee going to look after him and keep the both of them safe? Will Jayne be well enough to keep on the move and protect them both? When will the others find them?
I like the part where River and Zoe both know what's going on between Kaylee and Jayne - that Jayne has feelings and that Kaylee's beginning to have feelings for him as well. But Mal is oblivious to what's been going on. Men!!
Hope Jayne and Kaylee make it through this hunt (I'm sure they will. You wouldn't kill them off, would you, Bookaddict?) and both begin to realise how each of them feels about the other........
You can't take the sky from me
The end does kind of cut off short. I got kind of used to tight cliff-hangers with this story.
But don't you dare stop until our heroes are out of danger!
The last section with Kaylee dosen't flow as well as your usual, but it's not bad. Maybe some sort of transition would smooth it. Maybe show Kaylee keeping watch or doing something small like covering Jayne or trying to warm him and then going into what she's thinking.
I can't wait for tomorrow!
You keep writing it so well and I wondered how you were going to do it over twelve days, but it's working.
And don't make Jayne sick! He's at his best when he's angry and protective!!
capital work!
“Appears that large numbers of us are blind then” Mal answered “Kaylee included, I guess?”
YES! I loved that Zoe was the one who pointed out Jayne's feelings. She's usually pretty reticent about personal stuff, but she don't miss much.
That last part was kinda rushed, but gettin' a sneak peak into how Kaylee's feeling was good. I don't like the idea of her with a gun ('War Stories' sorta showed how uncomfortable she is with that, too), but the fact that she's willing to go that far to protect Jayne tells more about how deeply she feels than anything else so far.
That said, keep going! And no, that ain't a request, that's a gorram order. ;P
