His first mistake was not knowing what the cargo was.

His second was not reading that paper before he signed it.

His third was agreeing to wait till nightfall to pick it up

As soon as he saw the cargo he had tried to return the money and get out of it. When that didn’t work Jayne began swinging his gun around. That just made the situation worse.

In the end there was nothing he could do.

That was how he and Jayne ended up walking back to Serenity, three children trailing behind them. On their way to grandmother’s house.
