Serenity - Go for Full Burn

Monday, April 11, 2005

I'm experimenting with the "full-burn/warp" effect that eminates from the main engine before Serenity speeds off. Not sure if I quite have it right, but I thought I'd share what I've done so far. I thought it looked kinda cool. I'm using LightWave and PaintShop. (again, props to Sean Kennedy for building the Serenity model)

Is there any way to copy it from a screencam or something?

screencam = screencap

I would say add a tad more effect to it, and twist it a bit...not much, maybe 10-15 degree counter clockwise rotation should do it

Using screencaps for a composition such as this is never as easy as it sounds. Plus, I kinda wanted to replicate it myself. I'll play around with it some more.

Fantastic!
Any chance of getting one without the white border? I like lots of black.

Wow, that's awsome.
Can I ask, how did you do the full-burn/warp effect in lightwave? I've been trying to get that same effect for some time now, but no succes so far.
Thanks!

Well... I used Lightwave to render the Serenity, planet, sun, stars and other lights. I used Paintshop to clean up the sun's flare, to highlight the glow on Serenity's hull, and to create the "warp" effect. (I wish I could get that waro effect working in Lightwave!)

Great work! That's amazing...for those of us who aren't very familiar with these programs; what is "lightwave" exactly?

VERY Nice. Mind if I print out a copy, Mat it and hang it on my wall?

Be my guest! I am working on a much larger version with 3 times the resolution so I can print out a huge poster of it and perhaps frame it.

(BTW; as for the question about Lightwave: it is a 3D rendering program a few FX studios use to make their CG animations. It was used to make the CG shots in FireFly)
