Blue Sun Room FICTION - GENERAL

Very intriguing look at Ip's backstory and the unexpected save, and then, pure chaos. There's little things that show up in it: a bomb; where the hell is Jayne, Inara's back and forth between feeling sorry for Mal, jealousy, and realizing she's being foolish; Zoe waking up (whew), Mal will disarm the bomb, and two dumbfounded doctors about to go on a cargo run.

Something tells me I'm not wrong to think it's only going to get more chaotic from here out.

Hmm something has River thinking about chickens...

Sindiks, I'm taking a liberty. Matreshka is indeed the name of the dolls, derived from the name Matriona, which is in turn derived from the root word for mother. I present my excuses to any Russian speakers who are reading this story.

And by the way, River's antipathy towards Russian is solely derived from the fact that she can be involuntarily controlled by the safeword that happens to be a Russian phrase. @nutluck: a Russian phrase about chickens.

It's okay actually, matryoshka is a pregnant russian doll(mother in a way) so this babe fits right in.And I almost thought she doesn't like chickens.:))Can't wait for a follow-up

I'll bet Ip is pretty freaked out right about now. His world just got turned upside down.

Very good chapter, lots of action and drama. Inara was very in character with not knowing what to do with her mix of emotions all over the place. I like Mal in charge and what a time for Jayne to be in a whorehouse! Hope the detonator gets removed and they get loaded up and off the ground before anything worse goes wrong. Ali D :~)

Thanks for your comments, folks. Glad to have someone who knows Russian give me some feedback, Sindiks. Now, if anyone who actually speaks Chinese would care to assist with Chinese phrases...
Nutluck: watch out for the chickens. (And yes, I already wrote the Reaver Chickens into an upcoming story!)
Bytemite, ZoesMom, Ali D -- thanks for commenting on the chaos. I'm actually thrilled to know that it came across so well. Yes, everything's falling to pieces and it's all happening all at once. That scene in the infirmary was a big challenge to write, as I've never before tried to write an extended scene with several simultaneous threads and overlapping dialog for seven characters. Phew!

eb WOW!!

Lots of action in this one! I enjoyed it immensely! Very nicely written with a nice even sooth flow. My eyes didn’t stop once! Glad to find out that Zoe and the baby are Okay, well ceptin for that knee thing. I’m sure she’ll heal up proper like given time….

River? Going all spongy after whacking someone who was going to whack them? Not sure what was up with that? Maybe it’ll be explained later.

Really liked the way Mal jumped into leadership over-drive! It’s the way I believe a ship’s Captain, and war veteran would react. Very well done!!

Now Jayne? Where is his muscle when you need it? And I do mean the ones in his arms, not the other…lol!

Enjoyed the episode here eb .Very fun, exciting & entertaining! A pleasurable read!!

ZBP, I had the same thought about River not immediately attacking the second Blue Hands guy (aka Bill) but then it occurred that hearing the first half of the "safe phrase" may have had some kind of effect on her. She didn't fall asleep, and she could complete the action she had started before he said, it, but it discombobulated her enough that she couldn't carry through with attacking the second guy. And perhaps after hesitating to attack the second guy, she could see that he was talking to Ip instead of attacking him, so they were no longer in immediate danger.

ZBP and ZM -- yes, that's more or less what I was thinking regarding River. When she went into complete warrior mode -- in the Maidenhead Bar and against the Reavers -- it was, well, ordinary rabble-rousers and Reavers that she was fighting. These guys are Blue Hands. They know the safeword, and they have those awful rods. On Ariel, we saw how freaked out it made her even to have them close by. And that wasn't even a direct encounter. This Blue Hand had already begun to speak the safeword, and it was only because River's action was already committed, that she succeeded in taking the guy out. At least, that's my story, and I'm sticking with it. :-)

Also, glad you enjoyed the action scenes and Mal in leadership over-drive! (I did, too.)

ZoesMom & eb….excuse my brain laps for the moment :) I don’t know how I missed the safeword effect that may have slowed River’s attack reflex down enough so that she didn’t take both “Blue Hands” guys out. Guess that worked out well for Ip & Bill didn’t it!

eb that’s a very interesting idea to have River really in fear of the “Blue Hands” folk. It makes total sense. After all they are in some ways linked to the staff members that tortured her for so long a time. We all have our own special demons I guess. I remember in first grade this time I had this teacher that……well, that’s another horror story……ha, ha, ha ……

Now I’m waitin for Mal to Man-Up, corner Inara somewhere and get all the subtle jealousies out in the open. I’m sure the Captain is in touch with his personal feeling enough to show his her that he’s there for her, no matter what!

Great episode, my friend! ZBP

Thank heaven, Zoë and the baby are alright, the infirmary scene is so intense. Poor Mal, he has an overwhelming sense of responsibility in regards to his crew, and I think on one level Inara understands this and that’s why it’s hard for her to stay angry with him, even when she’s seething with jealousy.

Interesting experience for Ip, looking forward to more.

Thank you, Platonist. I'm glad the infirmary scene came across. And more there is...
