Ooh, new stuff I hadn't had the chance to read.
Anyone as didn’t understand that was denying the forces of nature, and probably tryin’ to hide something from themselves, too.
...Kaylee is perhaps lucky that Simon isn't gay in this story.
Nice River speak section, I should probably go over it again for as much meaning, but I think I got the jist of it.

Haha, although Kaylee really did predict Simon and Mal's reaction right on. Ha, I'm going to enjoy her chewing Simon out for the whole marrying for the wrong reasons thing.

Very cool and mostly as expected. Though the River part while likely very accurate was also wanting to give me a headache trying to follow it. Which I suppose is the point. :)

Oh Inara, considering she is a Companion and is supposedly adept at reading people she is allowing her jealousy to rule every other thought in her head. She should know Mal better by now given the quality time they have been spending together and at the very least should check that what she thinks is true is actually fact. I love Mal talking to Wash's ghost and Simon was brilliant. Could so see that conversation with the Captain when he admits that the contraceptive may not have been very effective at all. With Kaylee and Zoe both pregnant I am waiting for the sound of little booties to fall in Inara's shuttle! Ali D :~)

Gotta admit, the Mal and Zoe kiss is unsettling, and seemed out of character for Mal, he’s not that touchy feely in my own little heady version of Mal, was he possessed by Wash for a moment? If he has unresolved feelings for Zoe which have become convoluted over time, he really needs to be honest with Inara, Companion or not, she at least deserves that from him.
Your River is getting better every chapter.

Although things are almost peachy now, I see trouble on the horizon with Inara and Mal’s relationship. A little misunderstanding can go a long way sometime. Then we have Mal with Simon’s intentions with Kaylee. The Captain can’t have all kinds of drama going on there! Especially when he needs Serenity boosted to full speed ( those quick get aways you know).
Interesting territory you’re exploring with the Captain and Zoe. Really enjoyed Mal’s talk with Wash on the bridge…that was fun.
I’m sure if Mal wouldn’t do right by Zoe, her husband wouldn’t be too far away to see that, that was corrected.

Thanks for all the comments, folks. I can't respond specifically to most of your comments without issuing spoilers, so I'll ask for your patience. :-) This chapter has lots of new territory for me as a writer, and I finally decided I would stop second-guessing myself and just post it.

I LOVED River's rant! A nice exploration of arrows and vectors and time. It reminds me of a musing I had when I was about 10, when I learned that the surface of the Earth rotates at about 1000 feet per second; I stood there overlooking a field, trying to picture a point representing my previous location flying by toward the west at 1000 feet per second. Add that to the complex motion of the Earth around the Sun, and the Sun around the center of the galaxy, and it hits you that you are really moving quite fast at all times, and that you are definitely never ever coming back to the same point in space that you occupied an instant ago.

I got an even odds bet that Inara will throw something at Mal, or that Mal will call her crazy. 2:1 that Mal is provoked into using the 'w' word, or that Inara will already be packing again when Mal finds her. 3:1 that Inara will be cold and disdainful instead of hotheaded, 5:1 that she'll break down in tears, and 20:1 that after some initial tension all will be explained away in a calm and rational manner.

(In retrospect, I might have messed up the odds, I meant that the higher the first number is, the less likely it is, and the payout would be multiplied by that number. Also, I was planning on using imaginary money)
