Mal stepped into the shower with a grateful sigh, pulling the door shut behind him as he stepped under the hot spray, anxious to rid himself of the dirt and grime and sweat of the day’s labor. He groaned as the heat cascaded over him, slowly soothing the ache of his muscles. Turning so the pounding streams of water pulsed against his back, he closed his eyes in relief as the water massaged his skin, quite certain that nothing at that moment could feel better—
Mal paused, blinking in the steam as a sudden thought came to him, a different kind of heat suffusing his body suddenly. …should he? Slowly, as though mesmerized, he turned, his gaze following the jets of water up and back to their source, and to the tiny silver pin that held it in place.
Images of Inara flashed through his brain, gauzy orange slip of material bunched and wet against her skin, surrounded by steam, the shower head and it’s rhythmic, pulsing spray positioned strategically in one hand, that tiny, breathless, keening sound from her lips…
Would it work for him? …did he dare?
Curiosity, and his own pulsing need, had him reaching up, his fingers fumbling with the pin until it slipped out and the shower head came free in his hand. Holding his breath, he drew the spray closer, the pressure increasing against his skin as he circled it over his chest, letting his eyes close again as his breath grew shallower and his hand moved lower.
He hummed low in his throat, appreciating the deep, pulsating massage the water offered as he moved it over his ribs, the warmth flooding through him, all the while the picture of Inara flared brightly in his brain, drawing him closer and closer as his hand moved lower and lower and—
”Wo de ma wang ba dan--!” Mal shouted as a well-placed jet of water struck his most tender bits, doubling
'His most tender bits'. That's the title you've been waiting for, Bytemite. Get to work.
Comedic gold.
GillianRose : Indeed :oD I considered using some variation on that very saying actually *G* Gotta say this is fun *G*
Aliasse : Darlin', I read yours last night right before bed and had the idea for this before I was under the covers. Wrote it first thing at work this morning *G* So, thanks for the inspiration! Also, glad you liked the title *giggles* and the pin, oh that pin... *G*
Bytemite : Fate is a cruel, cruel thing *G* I'm glad you thought the humour worked - I guess I can manage to pull out some comedy every now and then ;o)
Thanks all!
I have about 3000 words of the next part of Choices done, but need a bit more before I can post, as it's exploded into this whole new idea that makes the rest of it seem like a prologue, Buddha help me, but I *am* working on it (and thanks for asking! I don't mind at all)
The next part of the Slower Path has been through several (dozen) rewrites and we're still not satisfied with what's going on yet, though I think we're starting to see a way through... maybe.
I do try to open at least one of them every day, just not a lot always comes... and June-August are my INSANE months, where I have no time for anything, which makes it a bit difficult :o)
SO, in the meantime... well, I think you'll just have to write a little shower fic to entertain us all, eh? *eg*
Just realized that could sound really sarcastic out of context, so I want to make sure it's obvious that it's not at all! I'm flattered that you still remember those series...serieses? (what is the plural of series?), it's been so long....
Of course people remember you, and i can tell you right out that I'm not the only one. I may be new here to the fandom, relatively speaking, but I've seen people who've been around since the original broadcasts of the series.
And every time someone requests fanfiction recommendations, you come up for Mal/Inara.
Longer is a bad thing from my perspective - I do have to try and finish this beast! It's been *years* darlin'... I'd really like for it to be over and done with at this point. I came very close to just throwing in the towel and posting my notes for the rest of the story and being done with it, for better or for worse, but then this whole new idea came to me one day, and it's so big and daunting that I almost threw in the towel anyway... but I'm also kinda stubborn *GRIN*
So... most likely I'll be writing this damned story for the rest of my life! Three and a half years is nothin'!! And twenty years from now, when the eighth Firefly movie hits the theatres (after the five years of running on TV again, of course) and everything I've written has been destroyed by new canon scenes, then I'll finish it ;o) And if you're still reading it, I'll buy you a beer!
...
Let's just go for the drinks thing, I'm good with that.
And hey, if you beat ScrewtheAlliance in terms of word count and chapters, I hear you get a shiny medal and win the internet.
P.S. I worked on a story for 14 years once and never finished it. Just kept restarting it and redoing it and it never got anywhere. Don't feel too bad. :)
Then again, Screw's a professional writer and his "trilogy" (really a duology since the third part of his arc isn't completed last I looked) is what he does. He did it for Star Trek: TNG and he did it (unofficially) for Firefly with "Kaylee's Lament," "The Legend of Lei Fong Wu" and...a third part who's title I have sadly forgotten ;)
Oh? And as someone who once got nailed in the family jewels by an improperly mounted shower nozzle...the nausea sensation is something to be experienced to really know the agonies. Also, this is some brilliant work, 2x2! Definitely loved how you described Mal's curiosity and mortification :D
