Big Damn Hero Gun #5

Tuesday, December 9, 2008

Several attempts after my P.O.S. Callahan MK1 this is what I got. Still a bit heavy at 3# 2oz. but a good deal closer to what I had in mind. Gave up on ring caps, too hard to fab the little posts they sit on, and have returned to roll caps glued on to dummy cartridges. The button above the trigger will eventually hold a safety lever, if I can ever design one that doesn't work loose after playing with it a bit. LOL

Very nice. About how much time do you think you have in that?

Yeesh. Well, if I could work on one of these all day, every day, could prolly turn one out in about 2 weeks. Figure roughly 150 hours all told. Making everything from scratch just takes a looong time. For example, the hammer alone is a day's work: design, cut/grind out, fit, cut the sear notches, finish.

Thanks everyone. For my next trick, I may try a repro of Mal's gun in either steel or brass sheet able to take & shoot roll caps. Figger to steal the design for the working guts from a cheap cap pistol, but make 'em out of better material.
