HMS Serenity

Act 2 Scene 3

The cargo hold of Serenity, Crew on deck, Mal on central stair landing

MAL:

I am the Captain of Serenity;

CREW:

And a shiny captain, too!

MAL:

You're a very strange bunch,

And I’ve got me a hunch,

I command a crazy crew,

CREW:

We're a very strange bunch,

And he’s right in his hunch,

He commands a crazy crew.

MAL:

Though a soldier by trade,

Ship’s Captain I was made,

With a stern look on my face;

I am never known to fear

At the Reavers coming near,

And I'm never, never sick in space!

CREW:

What, never?

MAL:

No, never!

CREW:

What, never?

MAL:

Hardly ever!

CREW:

He's hardly ever sick in space!

Then give three cheers, and a qu ni de ,

For the hardy Captain of Serenity!

Then give three cheers, and a qu ni de ,

For the hardy Captain of Serenity!

MAL:

I do my best to not cuss out my Crew—

CREW:

And with that we're quite content.

MAL:

You're exceedingly evasive,

And to say that you’re abrasive

Would be quite a compliment.

CREW.

We're exceedingly evasive,

And to claim that we’re abrasive

Would be quite the compliment.

MAL:

Bad language or abuse,

I often have to use,

Whatever the emergency;

Though " Chur ni duh " I may

Occasionally say,

I never use a big, big G—

CREW:

What, never?

MAL:

No, never!

CREW:

What, never?

MAL:

Hardly ever!

CREW:

Hardly ever swears a big, big G--

Then give three cheers, and a qu ni de ,

For the vulgar Captain of Serenity!

Then give three cheers, and a qu ni de ,

For the vulgar Captain of Serenity!

[After song exeunt Crew but CAPTAIN]
