The Right To Love - Chapter 13

Friday, April 20, 2007

Continuation of the Simon-centric 100 Prompts story. Kaylee's dreams get worse and Simon gets more concerned. Plus, the crew stops to resupply and danger is lurking. Simon/Kaylee, Mal/Inara. Rated PG-13 for talk of unpleasantness.

A/N: Thanks to everyone for all the great comments and continued interest in this story. I'm really glad you like it. I have had to take a break on writing some of my new third part to the "Best Intentions" trilogy, but I'm hoping to start it again soon.

Thanks again to Leiasky as well for the beta. After this chapter there are four more to go ... hold on to your hats, kiddies!

The Right To Love - Chapter 13 (Prompts 76-80)

076. Terror

Why? Why were they hurting her again? Hadn’t they hurt her enough the first time? Kaylee tried to crawl away from the faceless men, half of them in shadow, half of them robed in white, but there was no where she could go that they couldn’t follow, and with a whimper, she felt them kick her again, beating her about the head and chest.

Curling herself into the tightest ball imaginable, Kaylee still could not protect herself and so, in a haze of sleep, she stumbled from the bed she’d been sharing with Simon and worked herself into

I'm noticing many of your chapters end with a bad omen. I hope this wasn't one of them.

I hate seeing Kaylee in pain, but I'm glad that Simon's there to help her through it.

Gotta agree with the avbove, that ending is mighty suspisious.

Great chapter, I loved the fight between S/K, it showed they aren't the uber couple and argue just like the rest of us.

Yep, I think that was a deliberate bad omen, like a foreshadowing of some doom yet to come. It can never go smooth. I hope Kaylee finds something shiny to wear that whatever or whoever Inara saw through the window is not going to cause more trouble for them. Ali D

As much as this is Simon/Kaylee, I love the little bits where the rest of the crew make guest appearances, particularly Mal's thought about what Inara was doing when she made her request ...

Can't wait to read more!

Well, I tried to comment earlier, and the site crashed and ate my post.

Anyway, I'll try again.

Love the arguement. Shows they aren't the perfect little happy couple. Kaylee does have a point in that maybe he shouldn't have talked about something so personal with Inara, even though she and Kaylee are friends. But then, she's not being real forthcoming with info and Simon wants to help her so he felt his hands were pretty tied. Ahh, what a vicious circle.

Of course, I love ominous endings.

Awww crap....that little omen at the end just made the whole warm and fuzzy feeling I had going take a nosedive:(

Still...this was an excellent chapter, TamSibling! I especially liked how you had Kaylee and Simon fight over Simon's decision to talk to Inara - as a fellow professional who probably has experience with counselling - about Kaylee's dreams. That and Simon's long talk with Kaylee about her time as Niska's hostage. I liked the former because it presented a realistic bump in Kaylee's recovery - anger due to stress and doubt over Simon's decision to basically tell others Kaylee wasn't coping completely - and it allowed for proper human frailty to get aired and dealt with properly; the latter I loved because it showed Simon's devotion to Kaylee through sitting through a recollection of all the horrors Kaylee suffered in silence so the pain could get properly purged.
