A/N: And the angst continues. Thanks to all for your wonderful comments ... it really helps to feed the muse (she is a demanding little nymph!).

Many, many thanks to Leiasky who is very busy with her own heart-breaking fic, but still finds time to beta mine ... and read the other stuff I send her. It's really unfair the number of pages I send her a day ... oh well! :-p

Please continue to comment. Hopefully Chapter 7 will be up over the weekend. There are 17 chapters in total.

041. Watch

Watch. Wait. Repeat.

Watch. Wait. Repeat.

River was resolute in her mission, stalwart in her task. She slept on the bridge now, had even trained Jayne to bring her meals here. She would not leave her post. With deft fingers and sure motions, she looked, scanned, waited, watched, for the information she needed – they needed. Her family needed.

Programmed for stealth, skill and cunning, River could be patient. River could wait. River could watch.

And then she would strike.

She was awake, but he was still helpless. Still confined to watching and waiting.

The doctors had unwrapped one of Kaylee’s hands, her left one. Her bones were healing, strong and healthy, the doctors were impressed. Simon was smug; he had always known she could do anything, and he’d been right.

Taking the now uncovered hand in his own, Simon raised it slowly, gently to his lips and kissed her fingers, watching her eyes flutter beneath her lids at the ligh

Knowing that there are 17 chapters means that you've written at least 10 more of these... post them faster... please... please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please :)

Though I don't enjoy seeing Simon or Kaylee in pain, I think that you write it wonderfully. It's much easier to see the depth of caring and general emotion between characters in situations such as this than it is when everything is going well. If such a situation is done by a poor writer, the characters are not the only ones that it'll be painful for... when done by a great writer, well, it's painful for the reader as well, but it's a "good" kind of hurt :)

Keep going, post faster.

This was excellent, I thought everyone's reactions were spot-on and so happy that Kaylee is finally back on Serenity. As for River plotting revenge on the *tamade hundan* responsible he should be afraid, very afraid! Ali D :~)

Utterly heart-breaking stuff here, TamSibling. I was honestly struggling not to cry at how you presented the thoughts of all the directly-affected BDHs, especially at Inara's sudden distaste for Fall, which was a spectacular metaphor for her newly-recognized need for the heat, passion and light of Mal's love and presence causing her to feel pain when she is away from him or unable to be next to him.

Gotta say though, I was really hoping Simon would put aside his doctor persona to get Kaylee to open up to him...even if it's to rail at him and to tell him that his presence wasn't needed anymore. I understand why Simon backed off, but I really wanted Simon to start breaking through the walls Kaylee is throwing up to block out her fears.

BEB - It's coming. Kaylee is nothing if not just a tad stubborn.

Thank you for continuing to write, TamSibling. I found the site about a month ago, and yours were some of the first long fics I read. Very evocative.

Awesome, yet heartbreaking.
I hate that Kaylee's in pain, but it does make a better story.

Okay, I officially give up writing now ... that was ... well ... seriously, I give up.

Ooh shit! You've actually driven Jane0904 to renounce her calling, TamSibling! That should be proof enough!

;D

I PM'd Jane0904, but in case any of you should think I'm a meanie - I will repeat it here:

Don't you dare stop writing! We need all the awesome fic writers we can get, especially ones who care for the BDHs and the 'verse so completely!
