Which part is strange: the actual layout or just the terminology? The terminology is a combo of past space warfare SF I've read, and actual shipboard experience.

Command Deck- ie Bridge, Conn.
Stations for pilot, co-pilot, EWO/WEPS (Electronic Warfare Officer, Weapons). Lower bay contains communications and electronic warfare suite.
Main Passage- Placed further within the hull to reduce vulnerability to hostile fire. Several airtight doors along the length for compartmentalization/damage control.
Engineering- Main power generation/distribution, battery backup, fuel tankage, etc.
Environmental- O2 and air tankage, primary ventilation, septic system, fresh water system.
Troop Deck- Tiered bunks for 40 grunts, head, shower, kitchenette. Crew quarters forward.
Cargo Bays- Seperated by a retractable seal. Forward half for troop debarkation and mule trains to schlep heavy weapons/ammo. Rear half for big toys like trucks and tanks.

Ayup. It's what I figgered the Independents would've done in the first go-round as it's a lot cheaper to reconfig a junker than design/build a whole brandy- new design.

That or strap big fuggin cannons to a Firefly's shuttle ports to make Serenity's sister ships gunboats with adaptable weapons packages;D

I'd like a little more armor on a firefly afore I took it to a gunfight, but I'd do it anyway. Just makes things more "exciting". LOL
