Voices in the Dark

Thursday, January 4, 2007

This picture was an inspiration from a poem I read some months ago. It was written by Sandy Jeffs whom wrote this short poem during her time at a mental institution (being treated for Schizophrenia). It made me think of River (as well as all those suffering from Schizophrenia), about the fear, the pain, their utter inability to cry out in the midst of that misery. It’s the way I think River must surely feel about her current status: alone.
BTW, I had a ‘Schindler's List’ moment.

This. Is. Amazing.

Incredible work with the color, and really a great look at River. The only thing I would have done differently (if I could do such amazing things) would be to have the word 'alone' not fade between the last two frames; just have it be there in the black between them. I also probably wouldn't have ended it with the 'Firefly', just had 'Alone' Be there for another moment, fade to black, pause, start again. That is just me though and you still get a definite 10!

Quite a nifty and beautiful piece of artwork to gaze upon on my return! This is a treat to us, no doubt. I wonder how you made everything but River greyscaled. Did you do it frame by frame? If so, that shines a great light on how much you are willing to put forth to accomplish a short term goal. Keep it up, Super. I'll add this to my collection.

That's just plain beautiful. You captured River's pain and anguish perfectly.

Wow, wow, wow, wow! Beautiful animation, I love the black & white in the background and River in color, the poem is perfect and this is a stunning piece. Thank you for making this.

Amazing.

What did you use to isolate the color?

Thank you everyone for the kind words on my piece. Complements like that keep me going (to making more pictures that is).
The picture was done frame-by-frame by the way; with each image being individually edited. It took a really, really long time. And you know what, ‘Schindler's List’ made me cry (in a masculine sort of way, of course).
But at the end of the day, it was worth it. Thanks Again.

You definitely have mucho skills, Superfluous...and I salute ya!

:D

Definitely think this is a brilliant piece of animation, and it works on more levels because it looks at someone whose innocence and purity has been seemingly tainted by what appears to be mental illness:(
