By request, here is the Book-punching-Mal scene. At first I had just the punch, but I felt that without and explanation, it was out of place. So I added the previous page...let me know if anyone wants only the punch (basically a larger version of the right half, minus the extra frame). I designed this for Windows-with-taskbar users, but anyone who doesn't want the additional white space, just crop it. Enjoy.

It's a powerful scene...but I never really understood Book's big issue with the whole matter. Last time I checked, using physical force on someone is generally worse than theft, yet Book showed little outward grief over helping the crew storm Niska's Skyplex in "War Stories." But here? Mal reminds him he helped save their asses after presumably providing a distraction for their robbery attempt...and Book sucker-punches him. Guess I am just slow in some ways:(

You know, I always wondered about the signifigance of River's statement here.
"I hate that color on you."
Joss is very big on color, uses it very carefully, and it just seems like writing that line for River had some kind of signifigance, but I haven't figured it out.

Less of a colour than a shade. Mal's getting darker, and River doesn't like it.
Also, I think the penciller screwed up the staging; would've been more effective to have Book coming out of the kitchen, rather than seeming to teleport from one end of the table to the other before Mal could react.

I was thinking blood as soon as I saw it. When she cuts Jayne doesn't she mention something about liking him in that color? I always figured it had something to do with that. Oh yeah, like, he looks better in red. I thought maybe she was predicting Book punching Mal, as that is the next thing to happen.

I actually assumed it was a reference to him being a browncoat, making a comment that it was causing him (and everyone else) lots of grief. But it was a vague feeling, I didn't explore it much.
The wallpaper is cool too :)

I always thought that River saw red as a violent color. Due to River being able to perceive a person's true nature, I think that as opposed to Jayne, she feels that red is not Mal's color, since he is really a good person at heart. Not saying that Jayne has no good in him, just that the underlying desire to harm color association doesn't describe Mal. And in the comic, as Mal gets darker, River clarifies that this darkness is not Mal's way. Just my thought...thanks for the comments.
