The Prisoner

------------

Day 10 - very early

“If they come for me, tell them that I’m sorry.” Simon’s weak voice cracked after being silent for countless hours.

The man had made a decision in those hours; one that would change the course of his service. “I won’t let you die in here, boy.”

Simon started at the determination in the man’s tone and his senses tingled at the firm familiarity of the man’s voice. He struggled to blink away the haze enough to get a better look, but it was too dark and his vision too clouded.

Simon’s much larger cell-mate hefted the younger and lighter man into his arms, amidst a bout of unhealthy coughing and groaning.

“Who are – “ Simon’s voice trailed away when the stone door slid open, revealing a very dimly lit corridor behind it and a very stone-faced Captain Malcolm Reynolds.

If anyone could have seen the smile on the prisoner’s face, they’d have known that he’d been expecting the rescue.

“Who are you?” Mal leveled his gun at Simon’s cell-mate as Zoe and Jayne hurried in behind him, gingerly taking Simon out of the bigger man’s arms.

“No one of importance.” The dark-skinned man raised his arms and made no move to exit the room.

Very interesting... I can't wait for the epilogue... you did say you had an epilogue, right?... RIGHT? Ok, good... I look forward to it.

LOVE IT! The tension is just building and who the heck is this guy? Simon's plea to tell the crew he's sorry really hit me, I don't know why, maybe because it is so very Simon.

And of course, I love the BDHs striding into the rescue!

Although Mal allowing this shadowy man onto his boat could turn out to be a very, very bad idea ... But I hope not!

~My latest theory, besides the prisoner being a part of the interrogation, is that it is Jubal Early. Don't know why, but this line re-iterated that in my mind.

Well, now that they have seen him, and no one recognizes him, I am a bit confused as to who he really is. Guess I will just have to wait for the epilogue. :)

Sigh. SO wonderful, Leia! Now I can rest. Yeah, epilogue-good, but this? Nice and solid ending and I'm good to go now. Loved Mal's voice throughout, Simon's too, of course, but you do everybody justice with the dialogue, thoughts, deeds, everything. Thank you Writer-Woman!

Hmm...I still dunno. I imagine it's a companion of Book's, since Book is dead.

Or we assume he's dead...

Still hoping for some tender S/K from you, Leiasky :-).

Terrific read! Can't wait to read the epilogue...and perhaps "Rescue:Day 1" :)

Love this part so much, and who is the Shepherd - really? Glad the Big Damn Rescue went off without a hitch, has to be something of a miracle for our wonderfully heroic crew. Ali D :~)
You can't take the sky from me

I don't have a very high opinion of the Shepherd. For a eschew-violence religion, he and his order are very bloodthirsty. It's almost like they've beaten Simon as some sort of penance - how dare he defy the will of Parliment - with the information gathering as a secondary objective.

If it was intel they were absolutely after, they could have drugged Simon up to the eyeballs and had him happily confessing his sins.

Instead, we've got one repentant Shepherd of a dubious order with nebulous links to Parliment now on board Serenity along with one badly injured doctor. And his psychic sister *grin*.

I wonder if Mal will think the same way I am? And how long will it take for River to take a knife to the Shepherd?

Want sequel!

I told you they'd be beggin' for a sequel ... you work yourself into these corners so nicely, Leiasky.

And just to make it worse, I will add my voice to the cry for a sequel!

*chanting* Se-quel, se-quel, se-quel ...

Se-quel, se-quel, se-quel!
Sorry, had to take up the cry.

For the record. I hate you all!

No sequels! *bangs head against desk* Tamsibling, just remember who beta's your fic, who you're staying with for Flan. . . don't encourage them!

laugh

You'll all get an epilogue tomorrow or the next day, that will HAVE to do!

*whimpers*

i know you're up to something evil, miss leiasky. i just don't know what. but all is not what it seems. or something profound. *takes wild and probably incorrect guess and says these boys ain't alliance*

Don't write a sequel if you don't want to. You shouldn't let others determine what you write about. :)

“No one of importance.”

*Laughing* You brat.
Tuesday, 12 September 2006 14:10
Yeah, now how the heck do they not recognize him, when obviously it's someone we (the readers) will know?Maybe there's really good plastic surgery in the future???

Bring on that epilogue!!
Tuesday, 12 September 2006 15:08
Okay now, you got me, who's the shep?

Talks like Book, acts like Book, has history like Book, but can't be Book, or couldn't be Book, or GEEZZ, maybe a twin brother....

Mark?

I'll wait on the Epilogue.

Oh...this is so dirty, Leiasky! We demand enlightenment...and a sequel! But at your own pace;)
