Mal fiddles with his ear, and Simon hasn't shot anyone, and Kaylee is afraid of me. I stand above her, and I analyze, and I calculate, and I try to understand, but I can't.
She sees me staring at her, and she looks away, afraid I'll do...do something. I wouldn't hurt her, I couldn't hurt her. I don't know what to do. I know how she see's it.
As if I'm not a person, because of what I can do. I didn't ask for all of this. She doesn't understand.
I did what I did to save her life, felt her fear, and came running. I was afraid, afraid to look at the men who's lives I was about to take. But she doesn't remember that. Just remembers me shooting them down like an assassin.
What scares her most is what I said afterwards. "No power in the 'verse can stop me."
Just me, trying to tell her everything was all right. As if we were on the ship, in the black, everything normal, us playing together, like earlier.
No one on this ship ever understands anything I say. I speak so simply with them, and they're so confused. Perhaps too simply.
I can feel her fear again, and I don't know how to take it away this time.
There will be something, sometime in the future. On this ship, there's always something.
Anything for her.
Have to admit...have given thought to what River must be feeling when she shoots those three guards without looking and then senses Kaylee's fear of her. Definitely shows River's stronger than one might think....
