How did I ever used to upload a chapter almost a day? Either I wrote faster, or my brain was in better condition, or RealLife (TM) didn't screw me up so much. Probably a bit of all of those, and several more, including the fact that I was only writing one story at a time. What with trying to finish my hiatus Castle story too, Indigo (and some shorties) has not been going as well as I'd hoped. Serious writer's block over how to get from M to Z (already written A to L), and a worrisome life is stopping me steaming ahead, so all I can do is apologise to anyone who is still reading it. I will finish, but it might take a while to get the last chapters out. Like, maybe, months. But hang in there, as the actress said to the rock climber ... :banghead:

Ok, I missed the boat...and the bus...and the plane. I missed every gorram thing! I only found out about "Firefly" when I saw previews for the show on "The Science Channel" recently and thought that it must be a spin-off of the movie "Serenity". I saw the movie first in 2005 like so many others and didn't have the background of the TV show. It was a good movie but I just didn't quite get it as well as I do now. It seemed like Joss Whedon was just making a movie based on what he had all mapped out in his head about his own Sci-fi verse and didn't care to enough of a degree to make sure the general audience knew what it was all about. It was just too much to throw at me all at once. The plot was full of holes and inconsistencies (It has a few too many in key places. Sorry Joss) so I wrote it off as just a "good movie". The first episode I recently watched on "The Science Channel" was "Trash" and I was hooked as a Browncoat for life! The plot was engaging and intriguing, the characters were amazing, the music was incredible and I just loved the intricate caper. I immediately went on "iTunes" and committed to seeing every season in order. I purchased season one and watched every episode in one giant marathon...and then I watched them again! It was only then I said to myself "Ok...I'm ready for season t...WHAT!!?? There’s no season two?" "What happened?" I went to the "IMDB" and verified that there was only one season. I couldn’t believe a show that good would be cancelled after only one season. I had to find out why! I never did find out, but I tend to believe that it was simply one or more highly influential Fox TV execs who just plain didn't like Sci-Fi and made one bad decision after another. Then I thought to myself...OH YEAH...the movie! The movie serves as the last episode (even though it was meant to stand on its own). It came AFTER the TV show! It’s not much in terms of length, but it’s something at least. I saw the movie again long having forgotten the plot and this time...LOVED it! Because I was now emotionally invested in these characters, it was the best, best movie I EVER saw...except for one part and all real Browncoats know what part that is, but I'm dealin. For me as a newbie, that tragic and shocking character death is still too close. I am a brand new hard core Browncoat now and I'll go all out Jayne on ANY gorram troll who bad-mouths that incredible TV phenomena...I wouldn’t really do that, but I’d like to. I bought multiple copies of the Firefly DVD set, the special collector’s edition of "Serenity" and even "Done the Impossible". I purchased my Browncoat T-shirts and Firefly stickers. I really only wish I didn't miss the Browncoat movement to save the show. I VERY much regret that. I was raised on a cattle farm in Ohio and I was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army...had my "Serenity Valley" type of situations in reality and now that I'm retired from the military, I'm getting ready to take my life on the road...permanently. The Firefly theme serves as a rally cry for me to have the courage to do it. Of course, I'm calling my RV "Serenity" so I really connect mostly with Mal. In fact, I'm about as close to a real life Mal without the Nathan Fillion charm and good looks and humor and talent and fame as you can get. I connect with Jayne big time when it comes to his love of firearms and I connect with Kaylee because she reminds me of every ex-girlfriend I ever had wrapped up into one adorable, endearing package. I REALLY connect with these great characters! My favorite episodes are "Ariel" (The best piece of television entertainment ever made) and "Out of Gas" (a close second). I want to start a life-long friendship with EVERY Browncoat I ever meet! I LOVE LOVE LOVE "Firefly"!!! Thanks for having me on this AWESOME website!

It is mighty fine that we have so many great writers throughout the browncoats, but the browncoat reviewers should also be honored too. They may or may not like a piece, for any reason, but support what they say with facts no matter what. The best reviewer I've ever seen for any story, for any fandom, is RionaEire. She doesn't read my writing, but I've been guided by her reviews of other stories in many ways nevertheless. She and those stylistically like her should also be commended, just like the writers too. All the best as you explore the 'verse...and while we wait for the BDS! A browncoat.

Warning: possible spoilers ahead! An interesting fan question that I have continued to come across in fan circles is regarding River's mental status, post-BDM. This is a very interesting thing, for both obvious and not so obvious reasons. The beauty of Joss' finest work (in my opinion), is that it draws so many fans to it for many different and varying reasons. I think doing a mentally traumatized character was a brilliant and original move to make. And as we have seen, River's mental instabilities weren't caused by natural phenomena but rather through insidious artificial means. What then evolves from that is an interesting chain of events, including River's mental progressiveness to being much more coherent than she was before; which is clearly evidenced and supported by Joss' own words. Mental health professionals and experts might take some issue with this, and for understandable reasons, but it is also safe to suppose that the only motives behind River's mental instabilities weren't solely realistic ones, but symbolic ones as well. Sci-fi often mixes symbol with the real. It is strongly implied by the ending that River may become the next pilot of the ship post-Wash. If River were truly still as unstable as she was before, why would Mal ever consider entrusting his life and the lives of his crew to a mentally unstable pilot? In a critical moment, which they have plenty of, a serious mental lapse could be the difference between life and death. Mal would never let that happen. I've also heard Joss plans to resume graphic novel writing at the end of the year, possibly beyond the movie. I guess that will say for sure what he ultimately plans for River. Another good thing to keep in mind is that Joss planned the show to have a seven year run. That would have been a ton of character/plot development. I'm sure River would have had a bunch. My personal conclusion is that River will never be totally coherent ever again: "Ariel" definitely says as much. By the same token, she should theoretically improve greatly beyond the show, so long as she remains on a mentally progressive path. In a symbolic sense, she's also a butterfly emerging gradually from a cocoon. In addition, fans should contextually specify what they consider to be "acceptable coherence" for River, why or why not? Notably in fanfic circles. What do you think?

my desktop pc died on me for no gorram reason, apparently taking the washers example. Now I'm pecking away at an ancient, superslow laptop that has less memory than some cellphones.... Some day's I'm so happy, I could puke..... (Sorry for the rant, y'all, there's no Alliance-Friendly Bar nearby.....)

Been having computer troubles. I was running a cheapo used mini tower running Windows XP Pro, for about the last six months. working fine. It died last week, mother board trouble, I think. So I got my, and Mrs BC's, laptops, both running XP Pro, both used, backup machines, all configured up and all the hardware and cabling lashed together. It looked like terrifying space monkeys had attacked, but it was working. I used it HERE, THIS MORNING. Went out to the same local store where I bought the mini-tower and both laptops. Bought another mini-tower for $ 120. It worked in the store. Brought it home , hooked it up, OY!, whatta mess. It runs Windows 7, which I've heard SOME good things about, as compared to Vista, which everybody agreed was a piece of total go'se. First thing it did was restart itself about 6 times in a row, every time the logon screen came up. It got past that, and then put up a message about " Don't touch anything, I'm installing 1857 updates." Then a message about " You must restart your computer for all these updates to be effective." Then a message about " Do not turn off or unplug your computer because I must install 12 more updates." Finally got restarted, and it won't install Firefox, won't install Adobe Flash Player, won't even connect to the Internet with Internet Explorer. Finally accessed the copy of Firefox on my backup drive, and THAT works. I'd take it back to the store and yell at the guy who sold it to me, but it isn't his fault. The machine works. But Windows 7 just went down in my book as just as big a piece of crap as Vista. If it wasn't such a long walk to Redmond Washington, I'd go there and give Bill G and nis minions a piece of my mind-- and maybe a couple whacks with a used mini-tower...

I've been an uber-fan of firefly since my first viewing. The last time I watched the complete one and only season was probably my 60th time. It still effects me like it did my first time. Fantastically written, amazingly cast, irreversably life changing are just a few things to take away from this show. I'm actually due for another viewing. Keep flying.
