So I've been looking into this. What we know from the comic book and movie is that the training house is on a moon (not a world or a planet) that's lush and well vegetated, and there's little work available there for the crew. Basically, if someone is going to be able to receive a wave and have a conversation to any degree, they have to be in the same system. This is also shown in the pilot episode, when they have to be "in range" to contact Patience on Whitefall. Based on this, Inara is probably in the Blue Sun system as well. Burnet (Meridian) Shepherd's Mission (Muir) Perth (Highgate. I like this one because there's a story called "The Fair Maid of Perth" which is somewhat topical for Inara) Glynis (Dragons Egg) Nakula (Dragons Egg) However, she might be in Georgia because it's on the way between Kalidasa and Blue Sun and due to the crew's proximity to Sturges when she left in Those Left Behind. Conrad (resort ocean and island moon around Three Hills) Splendor (Population 50,000,000 around New Hope) Moons of Elphame (Summerhome, Fiddler's Green, Ithendra, Sweethome) Ithaca or Priam (for the Illiad reference) And she mentions in Objects in Space that she might disembark on New Melbourne, as a jumping off point to other worlds in the Red Sun system. It doesn't really fit with the movie, but some options there are: Maria and Destiny (moons around New Melbourne) Dyton, Agyar (or Greenleaf itself, but it's not a moon) Clawthorne (moon of Paquin, the Rim's answer to Sihnonese culture and theatre)

Joss Whedon did such a great job of writing "Serenity", blending in history and carrying forward the tale, bringing in subliminal popular concerns for this New World Order and US Constitutional Democracy, and, likewise, actor Nick Fillion as he plays Richard Castle keeps the character Mal alive and well... how about some brainstorming for a next two hour episode of Serenity to move Joss Whedon ...and perhaps even universal ... mutant enemy... 20th c. fox ... ??? I think Andromeda replaced Firefly ...but since andromeda's well and truly done, and TNG is done...and STUniverse didn't make it ... but Firefly was put in suspended animation in its infancy here's a start ... ================================================================================ "SERENITY, THE ONGOING SAGA: CHALLENGES" ...A YEAR ON... After the payroll heist encounter with reavers, Mal said "...a year from now, there won't be any more jobs..." and so, nearly a year on, the Alliance in political turmoil and the verse in more than the usual chaos, business is 'tuff' all round, and Serenity is in financial jeopardy, debts owed at all the refuel/repair stations, and Mal is more introverted than usual under the pain of maybe losing the firefly and the crew who have become his family ...especially Inara who had left the companion life to be with him ... Inara realizes Mal's distress over Serenity finances and ponders how she could make use of her old companion contacts to help out without going back to "whoring" and without hurting Mal's pride... Having taken some of Shepherd's stuff after his death, Jayne is rummaging through the things he scavenged and stowed away in the wall of his room, wondering how he might make money out of it, and seeing Shepherd's ID card, he remembers the effect it had upon the Alliance military when Shepherd needed medical care for the wound he received from the cattle smugglers shootout, i.e., "the immediate respect the ID card conjured and the way it moved the Alliance military to action to get the best immediate medical care, ..." and Jayne wondered what other doors that ID card might open, ... and Zoe, never fully recovered from her loss of beloved husband Wash, but ever vigilant and watchful of Jayne, passing his room and seeing Jayne holding Shepherd's ID card, reprimands Jayne for stealing Shepherd's personal effects and takes the ID card from him, arousing Jayne's ire, but ever respectful of Zoe, Jayne demands to know what she is going to do with it and suggests he and Zoe investigate Shepherd's secretive history as a remembrance of his death, ...Zoe needs to think about this suggestion, knowing Mal is preoccupied with the dire finances of Serenity ... Kaylee talks with Mal about personal stuff, a rare occasion... Kaylee asks Mal if she can visit her family, ...and Mal can't help but wonder if his best firefly mechanic, enamoured of Simon, isn't in a family way... Simon, realizing that he and River will always have to watch over their shoulders, if not Alliance politicos then for business cheats both of whom were always wanting advantage through psychic capability, Simon asks Mal if he could set up an advanced research facility and travelling clinic to providing "specialized medicine" for clients who have lots of money to pay, ... River, long in love with Serenity, has added technological enhancements to extend intelligence gathering capability using bits and pieces she found while exploring after Mr Universe's death...and with her extended range of seeing/hearing plus her loving heart, River is secretly helping people in need with locating food and water resources, and is secretly supporting a network of agriculture engineers converting the Alliance's deserted planetary nemesis Miranda into a food production and warehouse to supply a network of food depots across the remote planets, ... and is wondering how to transport water to planets experie

Working on a bit of fan-fiction earlier in the week, I suddenly came to realize something of an underlying, mildly visited fact of the Firefly tv series. That fact is that Malcolm Reynolds, character creation of Joss Whedon, is actually not the Captain of Serenity…..Jayne Cobb is! Watching the show, one can see often times when Jayne refers to Serenity as “his ship”, and even on occasion refers to the Tams as “his crew”. I know, I know…….. it does seem as though Malcolm is running the show on the little transport, but in reality Jayne is only humoring the ex-browncoat sergeant. It is but a pure fantasy that Mal is in charge of the vessel. My hat is off to Jayne for letting us, as well as the crew of Serenity, and Malcolm himself believe that he is the Captain! It reminds me of the commercial I’ve seen on tv with Chuck Norris and the WOW universe. Malcolm Reynolds is the commander of Serenity because Jayne Cobb allows him to be! BPZ

I promised a new christmas picture this weekend, but I am having a heck of a time thinking of what I'd like to draw. I can actually come up with a number of cute and funny single character scenes but I think what I want to do is a group scene. Anyone have any family friendly and christmas-y ideas?

I just finished a YA sci-fi book called "Black Hole Sun" by David McInnis Gill, and it really "feels" like a story set in the Firefly universe. It’s about an outcast teen mercenary named Durango who is living on a future Mars who, with an equally outcast crew, takes any job he can get. The job they take on in this book is working for a bunch of indentured miners at a remote outpost. They are trying to defend themselves from the "Draeu", a race of unstoppable, vicious cannibals. There is one merc named Vienne who is his second in command. If she wasn't blond, she could be Zoe, and there is another mercenary called Jenkins who sounds and acts just like Jayne. I was reading along thinking how Whedonesque the characters sounded when on page 93, someone swears in Chinese. I would bet my right arm that this author is a Firefly fan.

Okay. I don't get it. My little fic has been read, but nobody here has commented. Now, I write because I want to, because I have stories in my head that I want to get down onto the screen, and I know it shouldn't matter if people don't comment. Maybe I'm more sensitive than I should be, but I use reviews to let me know I'm on the right track, as well as that people have enjoyed my work. I know this time of year a lot of folks don't have the space to read fanfic, but it [i]has[/i] been read - so I fear the worst. I have had a few problems this year with writing, finding it hard to get motivated, to sit down and get my fingers working, but I will try to be better in the coming months. I enjoyed writing Christmas Gift, and I thought you'd enjoy reading it. Guess maybe I was wrong. [b]Addendum[/b] Sorry. Feeling a bit sorry for myself. And I [i]am [/i] too sensitive - everybody tells me that.

Indigo As I suggested a few days ago, here is the story so far ... On a visit to Wayborn Skyplex to pick up a cargo to take to Jubilee, the Serenity children are almost forced into being ‘tested’ in a gaming arcade. Having successfully – if somewhat violently – got away, the crew head to their rendezvous, but take a detour when Jayne is informed of the death of his friend and mentor, Indigo McCready, shot in the back in the town of Cason’s Point. In the town Jayne comes face to face with Wes and Brad Tanner, sons of Medea Tanner who virtually owns the whole town, and it transpires they were two of the men who had come to kill him the time he acquired Vera. Jayne also goes to see Mallory and her son Josh, an ex-working girl who now lives on a smallholding outside town. While Kaylee is fixing Mallory’s water pump, Jayne and Hank go hunting for food, splitting up, the latter heading for an old Alliance camp they’d heard about. Hank is shot, his armour saving his life but still badly wounded. Simon works on him, and he will survive, but Jayne discovers the bullet came from a Sharps rifle, a rare gun that was in the ownership of Indigo. Jayne and Freya go to see Mallory to ask some difficult questions, but come on Indigo at her house, very much alive. Taking him back to Serenity he leads them to believe he shot Hank, but Freya feels someone outside in the blizzard and goes out to find Sara, Indigo’s daughter, who had been kidnapped by slavers when she tested as a potential psychic. Hank recognises her as the person who shot him, while Mal realises the camp is once again home to slavers ... And just to be clear, the children of Serenity are: Ethan and Jesse Reynolds Bethie, Hope and David Gabriel Tam Ben Mills Caleb Cobb
