Ok i was totally going to be all girly and freak non verbally about how complicated my love life is going to be after this weekend but now that i'm on here and typing it seems really lame to... It's basically - Guy and Girl go to highschool together, there are sparks. Guy and girl miss moment and guy gets girlfriend and moves states with her. Guy comes home for birthday and meets up with girl to almost sleep with each other. Guy goes back to Girlfriend and doesn't talk to girl. Guy and Girlfriend break up. Guy comes home to hang with girl but then decides to go out partying when he had a date with girl, that granted she was invited to but still.... Guy and girl don't talk for months. Guy in another state to girl. Girl gets annoyed and finally drunkenly sms's guy resulting in him wanting to see girl when he visits this weekend. Girl freaking out a little....not sure what she wants to happen... Girl confides in strangers over the internet.... So basically its your average guy meets girl lol!! :crap: D

So I know this isn't Firefly related, but it's Joss related. I'm kinda surprised that I haven't seen this on here already. So the DVD is supposed to be available on the 19th of December...right in time for Christmas, as was promised. YAY!

As stated previously, I'm interested in the individual and the collective Fandom experience of being a Browncoat, Firefly fan, or whatever you identify yourself as. On the individual level I'm looking at personal stories of when, how, and why fans became fans of Firefly/Serenity. I'm also interested in the particular activities that differentiate Browncoats from people who just like the show/movie. Initially I would like you to just tell (write) me your personal (individual, not necessarily intimate) experience of becoming a fan of Firefly/Serenity. I would like you to answer the following questions if you can. These can either be incorporated into your Firefly fan story or answered separately. You can post responses as comments, message me hear, or send them to my email JonathonLundy@boisestate.edu. When did you first become a fan of the show/movie? What were the circumstances? (We’re you introduced through another fan or did you just stumble upon it? Did you catch it when it originally aired on Fox or after on DVD, SCI FI Channel, etc…?) What about the show/film caught your interest and what inspired you to become active in fan activity? How do you show your fandom and/or participate as a Browncoat? (Message Boards, Chat, Conventions, Viewing parties, Fan Fiction, etc…) It seem like fan fiction is a popular way to demonstrate Firefly fandom. What is your take on the stories that Browncoats tell and do you participate in Fan fiction? What kind of impact, in any, has fandom had on your life in general? On what level does your fandom of Firefly/Serenity affect your identity? Do you consider this something that embodies who are (a Browncoat) or is it more of a casual activity for entertainment purposes? Is there anything in particular that you identify with in the show or movie? (Characters, Storyline, themes, etc…) Why do you think this particular show that only lasted one season has gained such a following? Are you a participatory fan of anything else (other series, movies, genres, sports, etc…) and if so, are those experiences different or similar to being a Browncoat? In the past, and perhaps the present, society as a whole has questioned the legitimacy of dedicating significant amounts of time to a fictional narrative, especially those in the genre of science fiction. What are your feelings regarding being a fan and society’s view of you as whole? Do you ever feel like you have to hide, justify, or defend your fandom to anyone?

Glad you all have enjoyed the new story. I received flying colors to proceed from both you and my coach. So keep watch for more. As for Cat, I may hold off until after the first of the year since with Christmas and this, I run out of time. I do promise to finish though.

Can't believe it's been so long since my last visit! On the other hand, things have been very hectic as I finished off all my projects at work. Now I am FREE! No more work no more money... I can't believe it, but I have been accepted to study engineering at Stellenbosch, so I will be moving to the most beautiful Cape, the Cape of Good Hope soon. Well, I'm sure it won't be half as much fun as my first time at Varsity, but still, 4 holidays a year, no more bosses. YES! And perhaps I will have some more time to spend here too! Happy, happy day!

I have been watching Veronica Mars lately after one of my friends did a podcast on the show. I didn't think it would be all that good but after watching the first few episodes i was hooked its pretty good show, not much in the shoujo ai department but its ok if you have a good imagination or know some good fanfic sites. Anyway the tv show is pretty good. Also i have been looking around for some new good fanfics with Veronica and Mac, or Veronica and Meg, this are the only two i can think of at the moment but if i see anymore intresting pairs i will have to look around for them too. Been seeing some goods songs poping up to on project playlist wich is a site to make music players for myspace, facebook, and rp boards like ninja's united or my board. I will make a list of songs that are good or at least i think are good just because i like them doesn't mean everyone else will anyway try not to think much about the artist its the song that counts. If You Seek Amy - Britney spears Kill The Lights - Britney spears Circus - Britney spears Unusual You - Britney spears All Around Me - Flyleaf Saving Grace - Everlast Watch Dis - Piles Live Your Life - T.I. ft. Rihanna

Hello y'all! So my dad's book has just been released on Amazon.ca and we are super excited even though it is on computer auditing and I have no idea what that is! Amazon.ca has a rating system and I was wondering if anyone would do a Browncoat a favour and rate it high?

I have been absent from the site (heck yes, present perfect!) and just wanted to let everyone know that Christmas has vomited all over Ho Chi Minh City. And love it.

So I took a very small break from studying to watch 3:15. It's a movie from 1986 with Adam Baldwin and it was so wicked! Cheesy 80s style dialogue and cinematography and lots of Adam! Definately cheered up my day!

As a good Browncoat, I bought a copy of Quantum Mechanix's Map of the 'Verse, drawn by Geoffrey Mandel. Fascinating to see his version, with multiple systems orbiting a number of stars. Then I started to read the names of the planets. And there, as a moon of Brisingamen in the Red Star system, was Freya. Now, as a lot of you know, Freya is the name of my OC, and I've been writing about her and the crew for a while now, and I haven't come across any other mention of that name in connection with, well, anything. So does this mean that Geoffrey Mandel or some of the other researchers lurk on this site? Or maybe over at fanfiction.net? I'd love to think that the moon is named after my character, but I'm not sure how to find out. If I do, I'll keep you posted. One way or another, it was really cool to see my character's name on the official map of the 'verse! Jane

Well, yesterday kind of sucked....my ball python (which I had had for about twelve years) died and I had a royal cry before drinking way too much coffee and proceeding to stay up late watching CSI. About eleven thirty, I was rudely interrupted when a tornado(yes, Virginia, they do exist!) touched down right next to my house. Thankfully, (GOD was there with his hand) it was not very big(only 110mph winds) and we suffered very little damamge. The big thing and the reason I say God was protecting us was there were NO sirens and I live in a two story townhouse. My kids and hubby were UPSTAIRS asleep and I would have had NO time to get them down. So, good news, we are all alive, well, except the snake and I will be working on the next chapter of Angelle. Just thought I would share.

Ah, well, it was nice while it lasted. I emailed Andy Gore at Quantum Mechanix, and he says it's just coincidence. Apparently they just continued Joss's preference for mythological names and as Freya is a Scandinavian goddess ... and no fanfiction character got that honour. As I said, it was nice while it lasted. Still, I can pretend, because it is there for all to see. Jane :fork:

I'm done with finals! Also, I think I'm in love. That's about all I have for now. You'd think I'd have more updates, considering how long it's been since I updated. Just thought I'd let everyone know I'm still here

So, if you read my last entry to this log, you know that Monday we were hit by a small tornado. Well, tonight, we received about an inch and a half of sleet, even though the high today was in the 60s.( in an hour, it dropped about fifteen degrees) Looks like a blanket of white over my lawn and broken fence, branches, and other little debris. Plus we are now sitting at 21 degrees (F...I know, but I'm an All American and get confused flipping to C.) :crap: So, recap.....tornado with no sirens because it wasn't a BIG one :finger: and now, sleet, because everyone wants to drive on the :censored: road with ice..... That's life in Oklahoma..... SO... who wants to come and visit?! BTW, that temp is -6 C but feels like -14. (I cheated and went to look on the Weather channel.)

*Looks around and props her feet up on Serenity's table* Good to be back in these parts, been out for a bit, picked up a new fandom, Doctor Who-which I LOVE, but realized I missed this 'verse a bit too much. So I'm back and plan on hangin' out for a bit. :)

I was asked about a week ago to write a fifteen minute short to be used in a film grouping of stories based in Tulsa, where I live so...Here is the plot I figured I'd share. Our main character is a woman assassin (fancy that from me) that is a cross between the crazy Cat and the back water Angelle. Her name is Demond. (Yes, I see the irony) Anyway, she is hired by this nerd who wants her to kill his boss for reasons he gives her like drugs and all that. Well, the spin is when the deed is done, the only reason why he wanted him dead was because the man stole his stuffed bunny. So, here is Demond, big bad assassin and she has just killed a man for nothing more than a stuffed rabbit, which the nerd claims was a gift from his mom. Fearing that her rep will be ruined, Demond drops him, and then walks away carrying the rabbit. After all, it gets lonely one the road. It all takes place in Tulsa. What do you think?!

SPOILER ALERT! So there is it. Prospero’s Legacy. I can’t believe I’ve finished it! Coming in at forty chapters, and over 124,000 words, it is by far the longest story I’ve ever written. In fact, two and a half times as long. I first had the basic idea two years ago, a simple plot revolving around children being taken from an Alliance facility and used by an Independent faction. It was going to be set on a moon called Prospero, tying up (I thought) quite nicely with Miranda, and River was going to be kidnapped and forced to lead them. That story got recycled into something else (not particularly recognisable), but I liked the idea of someone having been developed by the Alliance getting kidnapped. I wrote a single sheet, which I actually incorporated into the end of Hope, way back in July 2007, about Mara Tam in a chair, being watched by two scientists as she had nightmares. I used the name Mara because I’d already had Simon use that as an alias, several months earlier. See, it all ties together … Anyway, it grew. Evolved. I’d drop breadcrumbs, mention the New Browncoats, have Simon’s old mentor Andrew Brooks poisoned by an unnamed source, then becoming more specific, with talk of RePax (including the reappearance of our old friend Niska in Eden), Anti-Pax, and … so on. All the while I was thinking about the final outline of the major arc I was working towards, and getting more and more scared! I began to wonder if I could ever do it justice, and realised I had thrown so many breadcrumbs it was almost an entire bakery. Something had to be done. I sat down, drew a web, and tried to draw all the different elements I’d already hinted at into a coherent story. I decided I had to have a sort of prequel, because apart from having Mal being semi-naked and tortured, I also needed to have someone give him some information, and decided that should be Niska. I always envisaged that evil old man coming back from being a Reaver, and wanted it to be part of the over-arching plot. And Mal had to be able to finally deal with Niska once and for all. So Volcano’s Edge was born. And Dillon, Breed and Alex decided to make an entrance, which meant they also wanted to be in at the denouement, so now I had other characters to write for … Terror is not too strong a word for how I felt as I started to write snippets while writing other stories too. That’s how I tend to write – if I envisage a scene from maybe five chapters ahead, I put it down. It might change over time, might be dumped entirely, but then at least I only have to write the connecting bits. Oddly enough, the scene at the end of part thirty-nine, where Mal and Zoe look out over Serenity Valley from the ridge where they had held out at the end of the war, was written virtually first. The climax to the story was always going to take place on Hera – it was just the getting there that changed. I have to admit, though, having Regan and Gabriel involved was almost an afterthought. I had always felt that they were blinkered, but not complicit in River’s Academy experience, and wanted to give them a chance to make things right. Perhaps it was a cliché to have Gabriel die in saving Simon, and originally I wrote it that they never got to say goodbye (as Joss did with Wash), but I changed my mind. What’s wrong with a good old cliché once in a while? Chiang Goff, Emil Quintana, Vic Ramsey … they all were necessary characters to pull the story forward. But you have no idea how much I agonised over whether to have it be Mal on board Columbine when she was boarded by the Alliance, or Dillon, whether Bennett should just be an Independent sympathiser or have him – as I did in the end – be an old friend. Well, almost. I used that to tie up with Freya’s past. You might have guessed that I like doing that – using little hints to refer back to previous stories. I see my Maya tales as one continuous arc, and try to keep the timeline and histories accurate within it. Sometimes I have to reread my tales myself, jus

Some of you know that ManWithPez has been working on earning his degree. As we come to the end of the year, I'd like to tell you how great he has done since going back to school last Spring Term. Where did he stand? He was a few credits short of an Associates and a lot short of a Bachelors. Where is he now? He finished his Associate degree. He has NINE, that's right, NINE hours left to complete his Bachelors Degree in Applied Science with a Minor in History. He will have done it all in a little over a year. He worked hard. He found out Military can take CLEP and DANTES tests for free so he used it to his advantage. He took every test that he could apply to his degree. He then proceeded to pass all of them. We're talking Civil War tests, Vietnam War tests, Ethics and Anthropology tests. It was amazing. He even rocked his classes. He earned only one B...every other class was an A. I was impressed. This is a man who hasn't been to school in 10 years. While Math had a bit of a learning curve, he still did it. He never gave up. Three cheers to ManWithPez! Soon you'll be holding a Diploma. Up next: Masters Degree in Library Science.

This concept I came up with almost a year ago has exploded into a monster I can't seem to let go. A while back, someone asked me to describe my version of the 'Verse as described in my fanfics. Well I thought I'd revisit that now that Heritage is almost done. Well here we go, the characters as I see them (BDH's and OC's) As well as the 'Verse itself. Edit: Figures, what I wrote is too big to post on my blog. I guess I'll have to post it in the BSR. Brian

Serenity - Part 1 & 2 MAL: Ready? ZOE: Always. MAL: We're not gonna die. We can't die, Bendis. You know why? Because we are so very pretty. We are just too pretty for God to let us die. Huh? Look at that chiseled jaw. WASH: Ah, curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal! WASH: Ha ha HA! Mine is an evil laugh! Now die! JAYNE: Let's moon 'em. WASH: I'd say worth a little risk. JAYNE: Yeah, that was some pretty risky sittin' you did there. WASH: I can always say I was flying the ship by accident. JAYNE: Captain, can you stop her from bein' cheerful, please? MAL: I don't believe there is a power in the 'verse that can stop Kaylee from being cheerful. Sometimes you just wanna duct tape her mouth and dump her in the hold for a month. ZOE: I know something ain't right. WASH: Sweetie, we're crooks. If everything were right, we'd be in jail. WASH: Just a couple of days lying around, you with the bathing. Me with the watching you bathe. MAL: And I'd like to be king of all Londinum and wear a shiny hat. KAYLEE: Compression coil busts, we're drifting... MAL: Best not bust, then. MAL: Well, maybe I'm not a fancy gentleman like you with your... very fine hat. JAYNE: I don't understand why we didn't leave that sumbitch in a pool of his own blood. MAL: We'd be dead. Can't get paid if you're dead. JAYNE: Ten percent of nothing is -- let me do the math here -- nothing into nothing, carry the -- MAL: Jayne, your mouth is talking. You might wanna look to that. MAL: Been a long time since Patience shot me and that was due to a perfectly legitimate conflict of interest. I got no grudge. MAL: If anyone gets nosy, just, you know... shoot 'em. ZOE: Shoot 'em? MAL: Politely. JAYNE: Little Kaylee here just wishes you was a gynecologist. BOOK: I brought you some supper, but if you'd prefer a lecture, I've a few very catchy ones prepped. Sin and hellfire... one has lepers. MAL: This is not my best day ever. SIMON: Can you move your feet? Kaylee. Stay with me. Can you move your feet? KAYLEE: Are you asking me to dance...? MAL: This is over, you and me are gonna have a personal chat. SIMON: Won't that be fun. MAL: Huh. SIMON: I need to check her vitals. MAL: Oh, is that what they call it? WASH: Can we maybe vote on the whole murdering people issue? MAL: Now you only gotta scare him. JAYNE: Pain is scary. JAYNE: Was gonna get me an ear, too. ZOE: If they take the ship, they'll rape us to death, eat our flesh and sew our skins into their clothing and if we're very very lucky, they'll do it in that order. MAL: Gettin' awful crowded in my sky. KAYLEE: You're nice, too. MAL: No, I'm not. I'm a mean old man. INARA: I gave the boy a free thrust, since he's not long for this world. SIMON: That man's psychotic. MAL: Oh... I'm a bad man. MAL: Well, we may not have parted on the best of terms. I realize certain words were exchanged. Also, certain... bullets. MAL: I believe that woman's planning to shoot me again. JAYNE: Here's a little concept I been workin' on. Why don't we shoot her first? WASH: It is her turn. ZOE: Nice place for an ambush. JAYNE: Testing. Testing, Captain, can you hear me? MAL: I'm standing right here. JAYNE: You're coming through good and loud. MAL: 'Cause I'm standing right here. JAYNE: Sure you don't just wanna piss yourself and back down like you did with Badger? ZOE: She still has the advantage over us. MAL: Everyone always does. That's what makes us special. PATIENCE: Mal, you just ain't very bright, are you? MAL: Well, you were right about this being a bad idea. ZOE: Thanks for sayin', sir. WASH: If everybody could just be quiet a moment... WASH: I don't mean to alarm anybody... but I think... we're being followed. ZOE: Sir? I'd like you to take the helm, please. I need this man to tear all my clothes off. RIVER: I didn't think you'd come for me. SIMON: Well, you're a dummy. MAL: How come you didn't turn on me, Jayne? JAYNE: Mon

In less than 48 hours, I'll start on my twenty-fifth year of life. Perhaps that's why it feels a bit like something is scratching on the inside of my skull, wanting to get out. It was... eventful, this last year leading up to my twenty-fourth birthday. I find myself feeling very manic sometimes as very different impressions whiz through my brain. I got a letter today that I made the Dean's list for my first real year at college. In some ways it almost doesn't matter to me, as what I'm really taking is away from this are the skills I hope to use for bettering my life. On the other hand, I think about what I've put into acquiring those skills, the times I thought I might just snap under the weight of the work, even though I knew this was the easy stuff and the hard part is actually making a living this way... I feel almost hysterically happy that I even made it this far, let alone being noteworthy. It makes me feel like maybe I can make it, and makes me terrified that maybe I can't. I've let so many things go, so much has built up I've had trouble making a dent in, something as simple as cleaning my room or responding to friends in a timely manner, and sometimes I just don't know what will become of me. I still cry or get upset over things I wish couldn't bother me anymore. Sometimes a slight is small, sometimes it's catastrophic, always it should stop mattering, and consistently it will come to me in the oddest moment to make me wonder what it is I've done to deserve it. I am, sometimes, insanely happy with simple things. Friends who miss me as much as I miss them. Good food that I continue (slimly) to earn enough to buy. Someone who wants to cuddle with me and lives close enough to do so on a regular basis. Relatives who really want to get me the perfect gift, though they can't figure out how thinkgeek's wishlist ordering system works, and try so hard to find something in a store that seems like the right thing (but can't be, because thinkgeek is light years ahead of Best Buy) and it's so sweet that they put that effort in and talked to dozens of sales associates who probably had no idea what they were talking about. I've gotten a few things that are shiny this year, but the best thing in my life is knowing someone is thinking of me. And the worse thing in my life is probably just not being sure I won't let anybody down. Now that a bunch of random has clawed its way out of my head, Ima see if it's any easier to sleep.

I will be posting a small (2 to 3 part) Christmas story involving the notorious Cat 1313 and a Christmas on Serenity. Now, for those who read the story, THIS is not a hint as to what might come from the end of the story. It is still up in the air whether she will end up with Mal or not. This is just what might have come if she decides on staying with him....enjoy and have a Merry Christmas!!

Hello fellow browncoat fans I’m updating this log with the history of my FF adventure and also the history of browncoat recruiting. First of all it is just by blind luck and good fortune that I found the verse. Years ago a friend of mine was really into BTVS and told me that I should watch it. I wasn’t into watching much tv at that time and btw every time I saw this friend he was always suggesting something for me to watch or do. So without really having to say it I didn’t watch Buffy, nor did I know anything about Joss Whedon. I do like science fiction but not if I consider it realistically dull or campy cheesy. I had heard of a new si/fi show starting in 02 but I didn’t know it’s name or anything about it so I never tuned in or even made the effort to watch it. MY LOSS!! It wasn’t until a movie came out that was advertised while the wife and I were watching a Hairy Potter movie that I became aware of Serenity. I quietly leaned over to my wife and said, “ That looks good. If we get the chance I’d like to see that.” If I’m not mistaken and if I recall correctly when the BDTrailer began there were a couple of gasps in the theater crowd so the feeling I get now is that there were some hardcore fans of FF in the audience. We never made it to the theater to see Serenity , my loss again, and it wasn’t until the BDM came out on dvd that we came across it in a video store and rented it. Let me say that I was impressed with the f/x and the level of acting was top notch. I liked the characters and the interaction between them, even thought I hadn’t much investment in their history and a lot of the emotional connection to cause of the ex independent fighter just never came through. Wash’s situation was sad, but that’s all it was to me at the time, just sad. It wasn’t until watching the bonus material and seeing the honesty that came through with Joss that I decided to invest some time watching the FIREFLY tv series. After that all I can tell you is that I came here, the friendliest most welcoming group of browncoats in the verse. There was a lot of talk about FF/Serenity back then with less political, religious and real world events than there are now. Not that I’m against people stating their opinions but that’s just it, it’s only their opinions just as mine are my own. I’m here to talk about this incredible show FF and the movie it spun Serenity. I think that most people that like the show and get the show automatically go into recruiting mode. You’re just dying to get others into this verse. Well a lot of us know that isn’t easy. Just as my friend was trying to get me into the Buffy verse I find myself attempting to get people into the Firefly. So far I’ve managed to get one of my sisters and my brother into FF/Serenity. They just aren’t at the level that I am. I have loaned many folks ( about 2 dozen) the dvds and they all like the show, but liking and becoming a browncoat are way different. Also it isn’t easy to persuade someone to invest a whole weekend to watch a series and I’m talking about any series. I do like being there when someone watches an episode like “Jaynestown” or “Out of Gas” Because these shows are so well written and preformed that I feel that they are a definite hook. I want to discuss and talk about them right away. I have found that the best way to get someone into Firefly and Serenity is to watch a couple episodes with them then just leave the dvds with them for their viewing later. It’s like once someone watches them alone or in a small group that the message finally comes through. Anyhoo the next folk that I will be attempting to recruit into the browncoat brother and sisterhood are my brother-in-law and sister-in-law. They live in Houston (100 miles to the west) and I know that they are si/fi fans so I know they will love FF. The problem is getting started. Everyone is so busy trying to live in the hustle and bustle of the world that sitting down to watch a tv series, even only 14 episodes can be a task. Once started though I think that I will have them. My sister-in-law is

Well... woke up after around 9 PM after I crashed from work... Decided to see what was going on on Second life. Been attempting to get a few things done for the Firefly Simulations as well as acctually RP there so its a bit interesting at times. Feeling sleepy still may crash again before I have to go to work tonight, that way I'll be fully rested. but I only have to work till around 5 or so so it should be good till I can get back to sleep.. Either way... its cold outside and I'm getting sick... well... Not GETTING sick... more like STILL AM lol. Gotta love the snow and the winter season. Makes everything nuts including the weather.. Oh well... deck the halls and all that I suppose. All I know is... I'm going to be drinking a lot of tea and staying indoors..

The Train Job MAL: I'd given some thought to movin' off the edge -- not an ideal location -- thinkin' a place in the middle. MAL: I'm thinkin' you weren't burdened with an overabundance of schooling, so why don't we just ignore each other 'til we go away? MAL: Drunks are so cute. MAL: See, this is another sign of your tragic space dementia, all paranoid and crotchety. MAL: Well, they tell you never hit a man with a closed fist, but it is on occasion hilarious. RIVER: Mal, bad. In the Latin. MAL: ...shouldn't you be off bringing religiosity to the fuzzy-wuzzys or some such? BOOK: Oh, I've got heathens aplenty right here. INARA: What did I say to you about barging into my shuttle? MAL: That it was manly and impulsive? MAL: Kaylee, what the hell's goin' on in the engine room? Were there monkeys? Some terrifying space monkeys maybe got loose? NISKA: You do not like I kill this man. MAL: Oh, no. I'm sure he was a very bad person. NISKA: My wife's nephew. At dinner, I'm getting earful. ZOE: Sir? I think you have a problem with your brain being missing. MAL: Hell, this job I would pull for free. ZOE: Can I have your share? MAL: No. ZOE: If you die, can I have your share? MAL: Yes. KAYLEE: There's no call to be snappy, Jayne. JAYNE: You about to jump on a movin' train? JAYNE: Time for some thrilling heroics. JAYNE: These are stone killers, little man. They ain't cuddly like me. RIVER: Two by two, hands of blue. Two by two, hands of blue. MAL: Whatever happens, remember I love you. ZOE: Sir? MAL: Because you're my wife. ZOE: Right. Sir. Honey. WASH: Did he just go crazy and fall asleep? MAL: Nice shot. JAYNE: I was aiming for his head.

Bushwhacked [Serenity's crew and passengers are playing a kind of "spaceball," as Simon watches. Inara comes up next to him.] Inara: Who's Winning? Simon: I can't really tell... they don't seem to be playing by any civilized rules that I know. Inara: Well, we're pretty far from civilization. ... [An alarm sounds.] Zoe: Proximity alert. Must be coming up on something. Wash: [alarmed.] Oh my god! What can it be? We're all doomed! Who's FLYING this thing?! [deadpan.] Oh right, that would be me. Uh, back to work. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jayne: [referring to a derelict vessel in space] If there's folks on board who needed help, why aren't they beaming no distress call? Zoe: It's true. There's no beacon. Mal: Which means it's likely no one's looking to find her. Book: All the more reason for us to do the right thing. Jayne: How's about you just say a prayer and we slide on by? Book: [to Mal] Shall I remind you of the story of the Good Samaritan? Mal: I'd rather you didn't, but we'll check it out. Could be survivors. But if not, well, then we might as well take a look around and see if there's something of value they might have left behind. Jayne: Yeah! No, uh... someone could be hurt! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jayne: [to Simon] Where do you think you're headed? Simon: I thought I'd offer my services. [intently watching Mal and Zoe suit up] ...in case anyone on board required medical attention. Jayne: Cap'n and Zoe are going in first, we'll holler if we need you... something wrong? Simon: Uh... no, I suppose it's just the thought of a little mylar and glass being the only thing separating a person from... nothing. Jayne: It's impressive what nothing can do to a man. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jayne: [to Simon] Grab your medkit, let's hoof it. Mal wants us over there on the double. ... Mal: [to Simon] Uh, hi. What are you doing here, and what's with the suit? [Jayne begins laughing] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [After Jayne shoots an attacker, Mal finds him hiding behind a fan grate.] Mal: No one's gonna hurt you. Survivor: No. No mercy. No! Mal: Any.… more than we already did. ... Survivor: No mercy. No mercy- Mal: [soothingly] We got lots of mercy. Lots. [punches survivor in the jaw, rendering him unconscious] ... Simon: [dryly.] Oh, yes. He's a real beast! It's a wonder you're still alive. Jayne: Looked bigger when I couldn't see him. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mal: [referring to the survivor] Charity would be putting a bullet in his brainpan. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mal: Reavers ain't men — or they forgot how to be. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Kaylee contemplates bypassing a boobytrap.] Kaylee: Sure. Yeah. [long pause.] I think so. 'Sides, if I mess up, it's.… not like you'll be able to yell at me. [Wash begins to talk with himself] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Alliance Commander Harken discovers the brother-and-sister fugitive alert provides little information to help them.] Harken: Well, I'm not about to have these surprises on a routine check. We run into these two, we shoot first. The brass can sort it out later. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Commander Harken questions the crew.] Harken: You fought with Captain Reynolds in the war? Zoe: Fought with a lot of people in the war. Harken: And your husband? Zoe: Fight with him sometimes, too. Harken: Is there any particular reason you don't wish to discuss your marriage? Zoe: Don't see that it's any of your business, is all. We're very private people. [Cu

Shindig Mal: Yeah? What's entertaining? Inara: I like watching the game. As with other situations, the key seems to be giving Jayne a heavy stick and standing back. Wash: Okay. Whoa. No, we're good, we're good. It's okay. Inara: I suppose. He has engaged me for several days. Mal: Days!? Boy must have stamina. Mal: Tell me, do all the men there pay for their dates, or just the young rich ones with stamina? Kaylee: Oh, look at the pretties! Wash: What am I looking at, the girls or the clothes? Jayne: There's clothes? Wash: You want a slinky dress? I can buy you a slinky dress. Captain, can I have money for a slinky dress? Jayne: I'll chip in. Zoe: I can hurt you. Mal: You backed out of a deal last time. Left us hanging. Jayne: Hurt our feelings. Mal: Does.. um.. does this seem kind of tight? Kaylee: Shows off your backside. Kaylee: Yes, sir, Captain Tightpants. Jayne: So we gonna play cards, or screw around? Wash: Don't fall asleep now. Sleepiness is weakness of character. Ask anyone. You're acting captain. Know what happens you fall asleep now? Zoe: Jayne slits my throat and takes over. Zoe: You could lock the door and keep the power-hungry maniac at bay. Wash: Oh, no, I'm starting to like this poetry idea now. "Here lies my beloved Zoe, my autumn flower, somewhat less attractive now she's all corpsified and gross..." Murphy: Why Banning Miller. What a vision you are in your fine dress. It must have taken a dozen slaves a dozen days to get you into that getup. 'Course your daddy tells me it takes the space of a schoolboy's wink to get you out of it again. Mal: Well then, maybe I just wanted to see a professional at work. Is this the hardest part, would you say, or does that come later? Mal: Turns out this is my kind of party. Mal: Use of a swo... what? Kaylee: Up until the punching, it was a real nice party. Simon: Captain's a good fighter, he must know how to handle a sword. Zoe: I think he knows which end to hold. Mal: Well, he insulted you. I hit him. Seemed like the thing to do. Why'd this get so complicated? Inara: He's an expert swordsman, Mal. You had trouble with the pillar. How will your death help my honor? Mal: Well, see, I plan on having it be his death. That's why I need lessons. I figure you know how, being such an educated woman, and all. Zoe: Not necessarily. We can lure one or two of them away. Say infirmary? Take 'em out, be on Badger before he knows what happens. Jayne: Only if his attention's elsewhere. What we need's a diversion. I say Zoe gets nekkid. Wash: Nope. Jayne: I could get nekkid. All: No! River: Sure, I got a secret. More than one. Don't seem likely I'd tell 'em to you now, do it? Anyone off Dyton Colony knows better than to talk to strangers. You're talking loud enough for the both of us though, ain'tcha? I've known a dozen like you. Skipped off home early, running graft jobs here and there. Spent some time in the lock down, but less than you claim. And you're what? Petty thief with delusions of standing? Sad, little king of a sad, little hill. Inara: How did I avoid that? Mal: By being fast like a freak? Inara: You have a strange sense of nobility Captain. You'll lay a man out for calling me a whore, and yet you keep calling me one to my face. Mal: I might not show respect to your job, but he didn't respect you. That's the difference. Inara, he doesn't even see you. Mal: You think following the rules will buy you a nice life, even if the rules make you a slave. Don't take his offer. Inara: What? Mal: Don't do it. Because in the case it happens it means he's the fella that killed me and I don't like fellas that kill me, just in general. I said before I don't have call to stop you, and that's true, but anyways, don't. Mal: Sure, it's humiliating. Having to lie there while the better man refuses to spill your blood. Mercy is the mark of a great man. Guess I'm just a good man. Well, I'm all right. Mal: See how I'm not punching him? I think I've grown. Jayne: We was just about t

Safe Young Simon: So... how'd the independents cut us off? Young River: They were using dinosaurs. Young Simon: Jien tah-duh guay! River: It's not okay! You can't just dig into me, shove twenty needles in my eyes and ask me what I see! Mal: So, she's added cussing and hurling about of things to her repertoire. She really is a prodigy. River: The human body can be drained of blood in 8.6 seconds given adequate vacuuming systems. Mal: See, morbid and creepifying, I got no problem with, long as she does it quiet-like. Mal: You know, they walk just as easy if you lead 'em. Jayne: I like smackin' 'em. Zoe: Next time we smuggle stock, let's make it something smaller. Wash: Yeah, we should start dealing in those black-market beagles. River: They weren't cows inside. They were waiting to be, but they forgot. Now they see the sky and they remember what they are. Mal: Is it bad that what she said made perfect sense to me? Simon: Right. I'm very sorry if she tipped off anyone about your cunningly concealed herd of cows. Kaylee: You think this would make a nice gift? Inara: A gift? For whom? Kaylee: I just kinda like it. It's rich, you know? Inara: Ooh. For Simon. Kaylee: I didn't say that. Inara: You don't do a very good job of hiding your interest. Kaylee: You were being mean, is what. And if that's what you think of this life, then you can't think much of them that choose it, can you. Mal: This is the last time. Last time with cows. Hear there was an idea regarding beagles? They have smallish droppings? Mal: Never goes smooth. How come it never goes smooth? Mal: That's good. You lie there and be ironical. Mal: Doctor could be called a lot of things. Coward wouldn't be one of 'em, though. River: We're lost... lost in the woods. Jayne: "Dear Diary, Today I was pompous and my sister was crazy." "Today, we were kidnapped by hill folk never to be seen again. It was the best day ever." Zoe: You sanguine about the kind of reception we're up to receive on an Alliance ship, Cap? Mal: Absolutely. What's "sanguine" mean? Zoe: "Sanguine." Hopeful. Plus, point of interest, it also means "bloody." Mal: Well, that pretty much covers all the options, don't it? Simon: These are better than the Cambersons' berries. River: They are. Except they're poison. River: He believed her. Made a face. Simon: You are such a brat! River: Ruby doesn't talk. Her voice got scared away. Simon: She has done nothing to you! If she dies tonight, it won't be God's will that killed her, it'll be you! Your lunacy! Your ignorance! Simon: Light it. River: Time to go. Mal: Well, look at this! Appears we got here just in the nick of time. What does that make us? Zoe: Big damn heroes, sir. Mal: Y'all see the man hanging out of the spaceship with the really big gun? Now I'm not saying you weren't easy to find. It was kinda out of our way, and he didn't want to come in the first place. Man's lookin' to kill some folk. So really it's his will y'all should worry about thwarting. Gotta say, doctor, your talent for alienatin' folk is near miraculous. Simon: Yes, I'm very proud. Simon: Captain... why did you come back for us? Mal: You're on my crew. Simon: Yeah, but you don't even like me. Why'd you come back? Mal: You're on my crew. Why we still talking about this? Mal:"Ya, but she's our witch so cut her the hell down."
