I recently realized that for a browncoat, I am very strange. My first experience with firefly was when it was on tv for the first time. I would sit down and watch it while doing my homework, at least on nights that I was home when it was on. Then it was cancelled, but I really didn't notice that it was. Then serenity hit the theatres and one of my friends told me that there was a firefly movie. That got me thinking "I know I watched firefly, I know I liked it, but I can't remember a thing about it" so I decided to rent the dvds and watch the series again before going to see the movie. Unfortunately, by the time I had fallen in love with the series again (amazing how everything came flooding back when I saw the opening credits) serenity was no longer in theatres and I had to wait for it to come to dvd so I could rent it. I saw that around Christmas. It wasn't earth-shattering, and I certainly picked up on the continuity errors (when those that were with me didn't, even though we had just finished watching the series before sticking in serenity), but I think I'm still in shock over WAIT.... DON'T GO ON IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE MOVIE!!! IT'S NOT SAFE!!! SERIOUSLY, DO NOT READ FURTHER IF YOU DON'T WANT TO SEE SPOILERS THIS IS YOUR LAST CHANCE, TURN BACK NOW BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE!!! Wash's death. I had accidentally run into a spoiler, so I knew that he died in the movie (Hence the dramatic warnings above), but it still gave me a shock. To go like that...no warning, no nothing, mid-sentance even....I literally felt as if that pole had hit me, especially after the way Zoe reacted. I still can't even THINK of heart of gold without getting all sad now. After all this, it amazes me that there are browncoats that watched the movie first and still got hooked on the series. It just seems crazy that after seeing (what is currently) the end, that anyone would be able to watch the beginning without tainted eyes. Anyways, I've gone off topic. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

So, after supper my 18 year old son picks up my box set of Firefly and looks at it for a bit before we have this conversation (or something like it): Me: "What's up?" Him: "I don't know. Um. How long is each episode?" Me: "45 minutes, except for the first one because it's 2 episodes, so it's an hour and a half." Him: "Hmm...do I want to watch it because I'm so busy doing...[b]nothing[/b]." Laughter from both of us. Him again: "Is it any good?" Laughing. Me: "What do [b]you[/b] think?" Laughing. Now bear in mind this is the same son who went to see the BDM with me at the theater, and enjoyed it! He KNOWS it's good! He's just being ornery. Anyway, he then disappears with my DVD's. (He still lives at home, so he didn't go far with them. :biggrin:) Four hours later, and I haven't seen or heard from him, so I go lookin'. He's got Episode 1 on (Kaylee's first big moment) and I ask, "So, is it any good?" He laughs and says "Yes, but I pulled a Fox. I watched 'Train Job' 'Bushwhacked' 'Shindig' & 'Safe' before I wondered why does disc 2 have 4 episodes and disc 1 have 3? Then I realized I hadn't watched episode 1!" The sound you heard was me smacking him upside the head.:bash: He just came to talk to me. Finished ep. 1, but is going to wait to watch more because once he's "watched them all I'll have nothing to do." His first comment: "Is that woman a whore?" "Well, yeah, but she's a high-class whore." "But she's still a whore!" Ah, my own Mal.:biggrin: We compared notes, and he loves the same bits we all do! So my job as a parent is done. I've converted my son to be a Browncoat! *Yes! Fist pump.* He tells me there's an article on dig.com about releasing a DVD with extras. Will have to check that out to see what he's talking about. ETA: The article at digg.com was about the release of "Done the Impossible." No new news. :disappointed:

MPHILLIPS

I don't know if any of y'all's scanner does this but for no apparent reason that I can discern the blasted thing will attempt to straighten perfectly straight drawings..randomly sharpen or blur parts of the image..or switch settings in mid scan..I've tried disabling all the smart features..rescanning the same drawing sometimes helps sometimes doesn't..I think it might be a compatibility problem ..but it's late and I don't really feel like messing with it anymore.......besides I'm on the lookout for a scanner that will take 11 x 17 drawings anyway...and tomorrow's payday....

GUNRUNNER

Ok I’ve noticed three firefly related things at Aldi’s Stores (you know those discount supermarkets where you need to use a quarter to get a shopping cart). 1st [i]Ariel[/i] Cooking Spray. I’ve used this product at it does the job… 2nd [i]Beaumonde[/i] coffee. Haven’t used it, but it comes in a crappy paper carton- not very useful when you need to turn it in to a transmitter to broadcast a fake distress signal. And 3rd [i]Chinese writing[/i] on bag of microwave popcorn. I don’t know what it means but here is my lame MS Paint copy of the four symbols…

For those that don't know (yes, I know there's a lot of you, and I haven't exactly been around much) Someone says something to me, and propiety dictates that I don't say what I'm thinking. If you hadn't realized it yet, the nominations for this year's Strawberries are closed. What happens now (in case you haven't visited the website): The nominations are now before our panel of judges and over the next month or so, a list of finalists in each group will be determined. At that point, fandom wide voting on the finalists will occur to determine the winners. So, there will be no announcement on the winners till april at the earliest, May would be more realistic. Announcements will occur in the future on the boards to when voting on finalists open. At a date in the not too distant future, I will be posting a list of all the nominees on the website.

COUNTDOWN: 3 DAYS TO SERENITY R2 DVD It's here! :biggrin: And yet, it's not. :crap: On a recommendation, I ordered a Region 2&4 edition of Serenity from cd-wow and it finally arrived yesterday. Yay! I was able to watch the BDM for the first time since October and it ROCKED. Also watched the outtakes (LMFAO) and the deleted scenes, and the R2&4 documentary 'A Filmmaker's Journey'. US 'Coats, if you don't have this yet, you need it in your life! And so we come to the problem: Disc 2, with all its exclusive Jossy goodness, won't play. It's meant to be Region 2&4, and thus compatible with my UK R2 player, but no joy. I checked its region coding on my PC and it came up R4 only. Ruttin' hell! Anyone else had this problem? :disappointed: Anyway, I called the good folks at cd-wow first thing this morning, and they've dispatched another copy to me in the hope that this is a one-off error. Should take about a week, so now the waiting begins. In the meantime, I'll be picking up my UK edition on Monday. It's not all doom and gloom!

I don't often get into this blogging stuff. I'm not very good at it and I usually look back and think I'm whinging. And we all know that accomplishes nothing. But I thought perhaps if I poured myself out where I could see it, I could quit tearing up like a silly. I have been this way several times now ABOUT Firefly. This isn't real life stuff, this is sadness connected to my feelings about a tv show, gorramit? I've never done this before about a non- real life thing, so it throws me for a loop everytime I do it. I have been without regular sleep now since Monday, as I'm "tendin' to sick folks", both my husband and daughter had surgery this week, so I'm assuming I'm gettin' a little punchy from lack of sleep. So I'm sure this has a true bearing on my sadness this a.m. I miss our crew, and every post on FFF.net, particularly the one of Joss' interview where he doesn't sound too positive about the return of the ship and crew just send me back to tears. Gonna be one of those days I guess, where I'm gonna have to "pull myself straight" as my Dad used to say and face the day head on and hope I get better. I'm still so proud to be a Browncoat and I'm glad I can come here and join in with everyone. Still holdin' - FollowMal

Well, I am going offline until Monday. Yeah. I really need to get my own computer and access to the internet at home. I don't know how I will manage without this place until then. At least the rodeo is still going on to keep me busy. Last night as I was listening to the commentary on Out of Gas, I got to thinking. Who would become the new pilot of Serenity? I mean, post BDM, who would take the controls? Would it be too painful to search for another pilot? Or would River be able to do it? How do you replace a beloved part of your soul? If some of my favorite westerns were made into Firefly episodes how would they play out? Here are a few examples… # 1. Jeremiah Johnson I have added a fictionalized scene from this episode below. Original scene: Will Geer lures a grizzly bear into a mountain cabin for our mountain man Jeremiah Johnson (played by Robert Redford). Firefly episode: “Vendetta” Plot Summary A freighter captain who wishes to live his life away from the Alliance becomes the unwilling object of a long vendetta by Reavers when he proves to be the match of their warriors in one-to-one combat on the frontier. EXT. PLANETSIDE DAY Mal Reynolds is seen waving his arms and running as fast as he can towards the open bay door of Serenity. His brown coat flies behind him. His holster is empty and dust is following him in large plumes. QUICK CUT TO: Disgusting blood-encrusted Reaver chasing closely behind Mal as he runs towards the ship. QUICK CUT TO: Mal getting closer to the open bay door. MAL “All manner of trouble coming your way”, he shouts into his communicator. INT. See Season 1: Episode 14 Heart of Gold # 4 Tombstone Plot Summary Firefly episode: “Tombstone” After success cleaning up the frontier, Mal Reynolds moves to Tombstone planet, and wishes to get rich in obscurity. He meets his crew there, as well as his old army friend Zoë. A band of outlaws that call themselves The Reavers are causing problems in the region with various acts of random violence, rape and cannibalism and inevitably come into confrontation with Reynolds and the crew of Serenity, which leads to a shoot-out. # 5 Dances With Wolves Plot Summary Firefly episode: “Dances with Jayne” Jayne Cobb is dubbed a hero (again) after he accidentally leads Alliance troops to a victory during the war. He requests a position on the frontier, but finds it mostly deserted. He soon finds out he is not alone and meets a ring of criminals and joins up with them. Cobb quickly makes friends with the ring, but discovers during a hold up gone bad that he would rather work elsewhere when a better offer is proposed. He gradually earns the respect of the Serenity crew. # 6 The Searchers Plot summary Firefly episode: “The Searchers” Malcolm Reynolds, an ex-Independent soldier back home from the war, finds that his family has been massacred and his niece captured by the Alliance. He vows to bring her back and kill every one of the blue-hands that did this. He buys a Firefly
