Brenda: Wow! about the explosion. But I'm glad your generator works. That was my problem nothing to do Sunday afternoon into the night. Think I went to bed at 10pm because of that. Yeah, all is good. Like I said it is now more a nuisance than anything but at least I can watch tv and use my computer again.

6IXSTRINGJACK: I'm sorry to hear about that. I know how frustrating things out of your control can be. Just recently I heard an explosion from a few blocks away immediately after the power in my house went completely dead. It was 12 degrees outside, and I was left with no heat or sump pump and no idea when it would be coming back on. Had to get my generator up and running in the garage to at least get the well pump working, and that sure took a lot longer than the 5 minutes it took when I did a trial run in the middle of a warm summer day. Fortunately, the power was only down a few hours, but at least my first real field test of the generator solution was a success. Not fun being up in the dark with nothing to do for hours and no way I was going to go to sleep with my generator making a big racket out in the garage all night. Glad everything is going right for you now.

Brenda: I'm sure she really doesn't know how the wiring is in the building. Most likely as smoke detectors probably wouldn't have been needed when the building was built. It is over 30years old. No, the manager isn't the owner. It just made a mess of things Sunday night and like I said I can't use the other outlets, so everything is plugged into different outlets with extension cords but at least all is working again. Trust me it is. That is just an inconvience that I can deal with, SIX. Things happen.

6IXSTRINGJACK: To be fair, the manager probably had no idea that turning off the breaker for the SD would have any effect on regular outlets/switches. It certainly shouldn't, but when things are added after the fact, it's usually much cheaper and easier to piggyback off of existing wiring rather than gut sections of walls and ceilings to do it right. I'm assuming the manager in your building isn't the owner of the building and wasn't responsible for the shortcuts or had any access to wiring diagrams/maps, how to read them, or even the basic knowledge needed to even consider they might have been shutting off other things. I'm not saying any of it is right, and I can certainly empathize with you Brenda after having some truly terrible apartment management in my own history. But you still seem to think that your new digs are several tiers above your old ones, right?

Brenda: What happened at this place THG, was the battery in the smoke detector died and started beeping, so one day the manager came in and turned off the switch for the smoke detector in the circuit box. That in turn turned off three outlets in my apartment, so I had find 2 different outlets for my computer, modem and HD box for my tv as well as my tv.
