Brenda: Never cared for the little of Simon & Garfunkel that I heard. Through the early 70s, you couldn't turn on a radio and not hear one of Lightfoot's songs as well as seeing on shows like Tommy Hunter. "Sundown" and "If You Could Read My Mind". I was around maybe 10 or possibly younger when I heard them and still can remember some of the lyrics to both. "The Edmund Fitzgerald" a little less, same thing with "Early Morning Rain." Course the other big name around that time was Ann Murray. She's long since retired but Gordon Lightfoot never did.

6IXSTRINGJACK: I don't know those two. My two favorites were If You Could Read My Mind and Carefree Highway. I was turned on to Lightfoot by my senior year Engilsh teacher who spent a few weeks giving us printouts of lyrics to songs by him, Simon and Garfunkle and some other acts from the 60's and 70's and really liked all of them. I actually went out and got S&G's greatest hits after that and once MP3's were a thing I've had those two songs by Lightfoot on my playlists ever since. Edmond Fitzgerald is a nice sounding song that she showed us too, but it never resonated with me like the other two did.

Brenda: A great Canadian singer/song writer left the world today. Gordon Lightfoot was 84. His music was the stuff of my childhood through the 70s. Songs like "If You Could Read My Mind" and "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald".
