Oh JO753! I'm so sorry to hear that you're being evicted! You've been there so long, surely your place is paid off by now!
What will you do now?
Where will you go?
What will happen to all of your tools and equipment?
I hope you have a plan.

There is an app here called Nextdoor. It's not quite like FB bc it's moderated and localized to specific neighborhoods. I've seen ppl find rooms to rent from hotel situation thru Nextdoor.
Maybe that's an avenue for you to try- I think Nextdoor is nationwide.
The fact that you've been evicted is going to put a black mark on your record. You'll need to come up with first month's rent, last month's rent, plus a security deposit.
How did you get in such a mess? I assumed bc you were spending so much time on your various projects that you had some sort of financial cushion, but I guess not.

Bummer.
Since you don't have a house tying you down in Illinois anymore, I recommend you flee to Indiana where you're not going to be cash raped by the state and local government.
Don't vote Democrat when you come here though. Otherwise Indiana will end up just like Illinois did.

Hey JO753. Terrible news, sorry to hear it. Of all the posters here, you are one of the most good-natured that I’ve come across. You are also the one who exhibited the most talent and brain power. Your abilities, the ones you’ve exposed us to here, are in great demand. With the jobs market the way it is you should be able to bounce back very quickly if you focus. Something your video suggests you are not doing. Time to put the other verse you inhabit on the shelf for a bit. Suck it up and go for it buddy.

Yeah... When I quit drinking I had to bury myself in that old project and I lost another year of my life to that. Better that than being dead, but I was still burning through the reserves and getting pretty low before I finally went out and got a job. Even when I had the job I spent nearly every moment of my free time working on that project instead of doing the house maintenance that had to be done. I reasoned that away by telling myself it was fine because I was building up my reserves again. But I still had no plan or desire to do the things that really needed to be done.
It was probably a blessing that I lost that job at the same time that I started having the structural damage and the raccoon family moved in. It was so many things at once that it was a shock to the system I needed. I was able to sever ties with that project and not revert back to drinking.
I can empathize with where JO's at. I think really talented people have brain hiccups and eccentricities that most normal folk don't have to navigate.

The pandemic isn't costing the world trillions of dollars. The "cure" is. Nothing ever should have been shut down. Corona is not something anybody should be scared of.
They're going to milk this thing for all it's worth and do their best to drive everybody crazy in the meantime.

It's too late by any means then. Nobody's giving you that money.
My uncle and his kids are rich, and they virtue signal online all day long. But when my brother, their disabled nephew and cousin, hit rock bottom and had run out of money and was out on his ass, they didn't offer any help. And that's family.

You really think government is going to swoop in and save our collective sorry asses, and that they have ANY interest in helping us out, JO??
Banks are in business to bleed us dry, and politicians are in office to service their wealthy constituents while doing as little as possible (mostly mouthing empty promises) to keep us hoi polloi bamboozled.
Seriouly, dood, youve been operating on the wrong assumptions, not in the real world. Government has no interest in swooping in to save your sorry ass, and the vultures are circling. Mommy and daddy died a long time ago.

By being smart?
By working hard?
Nope!
By stealing houses from people like you.
You're too old to be this naive, JO. Time to get out of that comfortable illusion that you've been living in and get your head into the real world. It's a cold, hostile place, and the person who is going to protect your interests best is you.
In the meantime, while you're working "a job" try aiming a little higher.
Personal story- At one time, I was so dissatisfied with my job I looked into changing professions completely (into nursing. Not that I hated being an analyst, but my boss was -literally- a sociopath who pitted people against each other, and was a multiple hrrasser who would regale me with stories of sex and torture. I figured nursing would give me greater job opportunities.)
Anyway, so I went to a community college to ask about nursing courses, and a job counselor asked why I wanted to go into nursing and what my background was, and when I told her that I had a degree is chemistry she said, astonished ... "You've got to aim higher! With your degree, you could be a Nurse Practitoner or a doctor!"
So don't aim for an assembly-line job, or a delivery driver, JO. That'll get you by, but in the meantime, with your design experience maybe you could develop a job as an industrial (mechanical) design consultant: "We make your line run right!" or something like that.
Or even small-engine/motor repair. Anyone who can repair appliances, tools, and engines can run a thriving business.
You're a smart guy, you should use your talents and skills on real-world projects instead of wish fulfillment. Keep your eyes open for opportunity, even if you have to push your way in. IF YOU CAN DELIVER ON YOUR COMMITMENTS then people will be glad they hired you.

You can't base your future on that, and if that's your plan, better come up with a better one. One that has a higher chance of success. You see, I think you're still operating on the illusion that you'll get rewarded for being an out-of-the-box thinker.
You won't.
You get rewarded for being useful to someone with money. But the really big money goes to liars, thieves, and cheats.
If you want to reap the rewards of your work for yourself then start your own business. Just make it a money-making one, not a money pit with near- zero chance of success. Appliance repair. Whatever you're good at. One that generates an income, not just expenses.
Otherwise, every time SECOND comes up with his trope about how Trump supporters struggle to stay in the middle class, we can point to you as the fuzzy headed liberal who thinks he's going to be rescued by a system whose sole function is to rob him blind. Or who trusts to a near-zero chance of money falling on him from "somewhere".

So, come up with a plan.
BTW I've seen a lot of small businesses start up from garages, storage units, and warehouse spaces. I know several labs that literally started in garages, catering that started in someone's kitchen, repair shops that started in a storage unit. There's a couple of successful shade tree car mechanics just around the corner from where I live. Gardeners who started with just a truck. Handymen.
Your area of expertise seems to be mechanical and electro-mechamical. You have a lot of the equipment already. Maybe instead of being a tinkerer you could springboard that into something useful that people would actually pay for, that you might enjoy - or at least tolerate- doing

I knew someone who thought he was so smart he would be rewarded just for being smart. (BTW he was far far smarted than Jo and Jack combined, and more talented, too.) He ended up living in his mom's MIL unit. Then one day he woke up to reality. 'If you're so smart, how come no one is paying you?' It was a hard fall from a 'high' place and he killed himself because he could no longer maintain his happy illusions about himself and the place he thought he deserved in the world.
JO, if you wake up, have a plan for what you're going to do with yourself with your new identity in your new reality.

CUSTOM REPAIR AND FABRICATION.
WHAT you want to focus on is up to you! It could by anything from assembly line parts to antique toy train sets.
Just make sure it's something
a) you can do
b) in a timely fashion
c) that people will pay enough money for
d) so that you will make some $$
Don't forget to count your time as an expense. You need to formally "pay yourself" too. It won't work if you spend two days on a project and get only $20 after parts, space rental, and utilities.

I get the feeling that you haven't actually hit rock bottom yet, or at least you're in the state of denial. Even in failing states, and failed states... no, ESPECIALLY in failing and failed states... YOU HAVE TO LOOK OUT FOR YOURSELF. Aint nobody gonna do it for you. Isn't that the very definition of failing states, failing cultures, and failing civilizations?
Now, I would say that our economy, and hence our society, is failing because of the insupportable level of parasitism by financial institutions, businesses, AND government (both parties) who cater to the oligarchs who feed them, writing rules that make this parasitism "legal", if ultimately self- destructive.
NONBODY COULD CALL ME A CONFORMIST.
And as thanks for my constant calls for reform
reining in the role of banks and financiers and debt
opting out of transnationalist/undemocratic "free trade" agreements
increasing and regionalizing production,
scaling back automation
and the MIC back to its original function of DEFENDING OUR BORDERS instead of being a gravy train for politicians, bureaucrats, Nothrup-Grumman and other dysfunctional weapons-systems "developers"
limiting immigration
remediating our environment (maybe put those ex-soldiers to work doing something more useful), adapting to global climate change, and reducing CO2 emissions
... all of which I consider to be both necessary and commonsense steps for our national survival
I've been relentlessly libeled as a Russian Troll (you too, JO. Thanks for the trolling -not!)
But at the same time, while I recognize the self-destructive drivers of our system and have spent my personal and professional efforts towards improving things..
I HAVE TO LIVE IN THIS FUCKED- UP SYSTEM. If that means working, saving, reducing expenses, taking care of the financial AND LEGAL matters that keep our family afloat, even being something of a prepper and growing vegetables and fruits, owning a gun And knowing how to shoot, basic first aid and supplies, canning and preserving stuff, keeping our insurances in order...
well, that's what I do. I love gardening, cooking, and healthcare. I hate legal paperwork, and paperwork of ANY kind. But I track our finances, track our premiums, watch our investments, deal with our lawyer and trustee, deal with the gubmint (taxes, benefits), help with home repairs... none of it fun, all of it tedious and full of uncertainty and worry. Still, it needs to be done.
So yeah - I agree with SIX- ya gotta wake up, JO753. Get your head in the real world. A failing system is no excuse, it should impel you to pay MORE afternoon, not less.
Or, not. It's up to you

I'm not blaming you for our broken and corrupt system. It's broken and corrupt. You and I are going to disagree who's fault that is, sure, but that doesn't change the fact that it is broken and corrupt.
But it didn't happen overnight, and I've been preparing two decades for this. Not only did I see the writing on the wall at a young age, but I learned a great lesson on a personal level when I had a great job that was taken from me by external forces and corruption, leaving me out on my ass and having to move into my grandmother's house for 5 years, living in the basement with the two cats that pissed all over everything.
The system is broke. The system is corrupt...
But somehow, despite the fact that I spent nearly 5 years so drunk that I don't remember anything I said or did in that time, and despite the fact that including unemployment I've only made about $65,000 in the last decade, I'm not in any sort of financial trouble despite the financial troubles of the world right now due to world-wide corrupt and broke leaders running things from their corrupt and broken systems.
Those external forces we see now are not your fault. But failing to prepare at all for the rainy days we're in the middle of right now is.
I feel sorry for you. I feel sorry for anybody who failed to prepare.
But my empathy for you isn't going to pay your bills. Nobody else is. What you do now is entirely in your own hands. Waiting around for somebody to swoop in and save you is only going to lead to a dead end for you. Metaphorically for sure... I can only hope not literally.
YOU are one of the most brilliant people I've known. If you can find a way to get over yourself, I have no doubt that you will be able to turn this around and focus on the things that mean something instead of wasting away your days worrying about the things you never had any power over.

Man... You are truly an interesting character.
I can't really argue with your logic. At least not from where I'm sitting right now.
Stress is something I try to avoid these days at all costs. I already put enough of that on myself without worrying about things like bills and such. I'd much rather deny myself material pleasures that don't meaningfully fill any holes than slave away repaying debts.
I get the sense that you're not nearly as stressed about any of this as you probably should be. At this point, that's probably not a bad thing as long as you don't end up in a crack that you can never get yourself out of.
I get the "antisales" thing. People like us could probably use a partner with the gift of gab to take care of all of that stuff while we do the bulk of the work.
And you're right. There are way too many people. And even despite big scary virus out there, we've only grown in population over the last two years and will continue to do so.
That's a problem that isn't going to be solved until some monstrous external force beyond our control takes care of it.
But that doesn't' mean you just give up and let everything in your own microcosm fall apart. No sense in you being miserable while waiting for the inevitable to happen.

Then he taught himself electronics by reading technical specs for various transistors, gates, logic, analog devices, etc and became electronic shop supervisor for a university chem dept and became their DEC (and other computer) expert. JO, a lot of people are trying to help you by helping you change your mind.
I personally have no emotional investment in your welfare. So I'm not going to try.
Plus, I've seen the movie before. So I'm going to observe, to see if the things I learned from the first time around meaningfully apply to you.
These are simply my observations, and conclusions, and guesses.
The first time I saw the movie it was in someone who was far smarter and more talented than you.
And believe it or not, there are millions of people like you around the globe, and many people who are even smarter. So you're not as special as you might believe.
Anyway, I'll give you some examples of how smart this guy was. He would go into quantum physics classes and argue the professors in circles just for fun. He taught himself advanced electronics, designed and built his own modems, and hacked his way into large computer systems using a scavenged TV that he had repaired and modified as a monitor. Now, this was 40 years ago, before people even had a name for what he did. He designed and built his own 'blue box' - which used the control signals telephone exchanges used to communicate with other telephone exchanges - to call around the world, using any random store's telephone hookup and a spare car battery - for fun. Until he got bored with it a few months later. This btw is only a small fraction of the information spaces he mastered. A mention of a few others - hyperbaric work for the navy, certified scuba instructor; licensed ham radio operator; and certified pistol marksman. (Yes I knew the people who worked for the university doing the navy research, and so on. None of these things were scams or empty claims.)
And to give you an example of how talented he was, he had originally taught himself to play guitar by ear. But one day he rescued a broken upright piano from the curb, taught himself its mechanics and repaired and tuned it, and also modified it somewhat (hammer dope, key action, and other improvements). Then he taught himself to read music and taught himself to play piano by sight-reading music. And I'm not talking about simple tunes, his favorite composer was Scott Joplin because he enjoyed playing 'walking base lines'. He accomplished this in roughly 4 months, which btw I saw with my own eyes.
Anyway, he had a million 'reasons' and 'arguments' for why he did or didn't do the things he did or didn't do. But mostly they centered around that the world was messed up and he wasn't going to go along with it. And I also think he had the idea he was so smart people and businesses should have been grateful for his participation at any level, at any time, because his input was just so darned valuable. So they should have just paid him money.
But he couldn't keep a job. And he would have been homeless if it wasn't for his mom, who let him live in her what now would be called an ADU (accessory dwelling unit). Nevertheless, the last time I saw him he looked like he'd slept in the mud, he was pale and thin, he literally shambled when he walked (that's the only time the word shamble made sense to me), and he either had gone completely loony or he was tripping on something.
And he woke up one day, and despaired a permanent despair, that led him to eventually successfully take his life on the second try (his mom rescued him on the first).
That's the movie that I've seen.
So there are differences between him, and you, and Jack, the biggest difference is he was far smarter and more talented. But there are similarities as well. And one of them is the sense of entitlement to your own reality; coupled with a serious lack of reality-testing. Because - yanno - you're so smart you're always right. And you see from a height no one else does. And I know his very identity was centered around how smart he was; and an identity like that isn't something one gives up easily. Because once that's gone - that thing you have to defend

I get it, JO753, you feel alienated from society. Perhaps you don't understand my tag line. Unfortunately, society- and reality- doesn't alienate itself from you.

I think it's counter productive to insult JO about the situation he's gotten himself into.
I'm great at a lot of things myself, sure, but there are some things that come so easily and naturally to other people that I'd kill to be good at but probably won't ever be. Particularly, the social interactions that let one grab the world by the balls. That's just never been in my wheelhouse. I'm good with individuals and small groups, but I hate being around a large crowd and the idea of public speaking is just as terrifying to me today as it was when I'd barely sleep for two weeks straight in high school when I knew I had a speech coming up that I'd have to prepare and read in front of the class.
Finances are HARD for a lot of people. Even a lot of the smart ones. My mom and step dad should have retired with a million bucks or more after a life of working good jobs that they gave up to run their own business for 20 years, but neither of them knew shit about running a business and finance and wasted their nest egg keeping that place afloat, only to turn and sell the name they spent two decades making and all of his tools in the shop for a song.
I know that when I generalize about society and how stupid they are with money I can be very brash about it, but on an individual level I don't care to be so harsh. Particularly to somebody like JO who I like.
There's no doubt he's brilliant, but there's a blind spot with the cash there that has now become a big problem for him. It's becoming a big problem for a lot of people who didn't do right and save up a little for the hard times back when the money was easier to come by.
The real problem here is in the abstract there's no real way to argue his logic. Society is a shithole and run by corrupt people who spend every waking moment figuring how to fuck us little people over.
But we've still got it better than people who lost the lottery and were born in other countries. At least for now.
I spent too many years crying and bitching and moaning that life isn't fair. Of course it's not fair. It will never be fair.
But there is a way to find some balance and make it work for you.
You'll be okay, JO. Just get back on that horse buddy and start focusing on the things you need to do for yourself personally and stop worrying about the problems of the world.
They'll still be waiting for you when you get your head back on straight and you're back in action.

That's one of my favorite songs, JO.
But I opted out of being a slave to money, even though I still haven't figured out how to opt out of the death part.
I know we don't agree on the whole vaccine thing, but since most people are slaves to money the Government can essentially mandate that almost everybody get one by holding their jobs and lives hostage if they don't submit.
I'm in a position where I don't have to be brave to reject what they're forcing on anybody. At least not for a long time anyhow. Well... at least if the Bidenflation doesn't destroy the value of the money anybody has saved up so far.
Glad you were able to fix the car.
Hows the job lead? Have you looked into a new place to live that isn't the back seat of that New Yorker?
I used to have an early 80's model myself, so I know that back seat is like a mattress. But it doesn't have a shower.
You need to shower JO.

JO, the real-life movie that I saw about the brilliant talented guy ended up with him unhealthy, schizophrenic-hallucinating or on drugs, living in his mom's spare place, unemployed, and eventually killing himself. If he was so right, why did the world not work the way he thought it should have? Why wasn't he getting money just for being smart, as he assumed he should? And most importantly, why did he kill himself?
Your quest to find a sugar-daddy/ patron might pay off, if you stumble across a very rich someone who just wants to see you happy tinkering away on nothing commercially viable. But that's not how it's worked in the past. Even Michelangelo and Da Vinci set to work on tasks given to them by their patrons, and weren't free to just to whatever they wanted. Mozart made his living selling commercially viable products (his operas). And finally Schubert worked as a schoolteacher by day, and Einstein as a patent office clerk. All of those creative, brilliant people knew they had to do something to keep body and soul together, whether pleasing patrons, selling products, or working day-jobs. So, while you may possibly run across your imagined sugar-daddy/ patron, I really doubt it'll happen.
Also, I don't think your helmet will ever be commercially viable. Basically, it comes down to cost, ease of use, and benefit. If, for example, people were shown to be infected through their eyes, then a more-inclusive barrier like your helmet might be warranted. But as it is, N95's are far cheaper, more comfortable and convenient, and just as protective - so as a mass-market product your helmet is out. But if you think it's good enough for technical use, BSL4 facilities already have that covered with moon-suits and independent positive-pressure air supplies. So your helmet isn't going to be sold in a technical-specialty market either. It doesn't offer anything new or more to this population-wide situation, or to the field of dealing with really bad pathogens.

You dont seem to hav a notion uv how much money iz sloshing around way up there out uv reach for us ordinary peepl. Or just the amount uv spare money us ordinary sitizenz hav lying around.
If everybody in the US dropped a dime into the UVPK project I coud hav product for sale in 6 months. (unless the regulatory ajensyz get in the way)

Cheaper only, and thats prezuming they actually prevent you from getting sick. Take it from the only person hoo haz worn the helmet - it iz comfortable and convenient. Better than the elastic bandz and unreliable fit uv the N95z I'v been wearing.
The fase diaperz are eazy to put on. Thats why most peepl prefer them and most uv the reuzable masks uze ear bandz insted uv around the hed bandz like the N95z uze.

I don't know how great an example I am though. The more I hear JO talk about himself the more of myself I see in him.
I'm good with money because it always interested me, and I DO think about it all the time on some level. Because of this, I don't need to worry about money, but I'm always thinking about it. And planning what I'm going to do with it.
When I was a kid playing video games that involved currency, I'd miss out on more than half the gear (and how the creators intended the game to be played) because in my mind it didn't make sense to buy any 2nd and 3rd tier stuff instead of saving up right for the best things. A game called Rock'n Roll Racing for the Super Nintendo always comes to mind when I think about that. I'd spend way more time on the easy courses over-preparing for the later ones, and by the time I got 1/4 through the game I'd destroy the rest of it because I saved up for the powerful stuff.
Most people would think this wasn't any fun. In a way I'd have to admit that it isn't. But there is some itch that this scratches for me, and a lifetime of doing repetitive tasks have allowed me to do a lot of things while completely shutting my brain off.
I kind of carried that over into the real world (at least after I stopped blowing money stupidly in my teens and early 20's while partying every night). Not just with saving money and budgeting, but also buying good tools that will last a long time (hopefully a lifetime), and learning how to do all sorts of things that most people would pay somebody else to do.
Unfortunately for JO, anything doing with money isn't part of what he can get hyper focused on. He said it himself. It bores him.
I know all about boring. Once I've decided something is boring that's it for me. It's why I never got a degree. That third or fourth attempt at college algebra and trigonometry was the last time I went. Shame on them for making that a requirement for the degree since 95% of folk will never use it, but shame on me for wasting money attempting it 3 times thinking that somehow it would go any better the next time.
The problem for JO is that unless you make an active attempt at owning your finances, it will have negative influence on the rest of your life. I might have had an easier life had I ever been able to buckle down and focus on that college math course, but I don't imagine it would be a happier one. I'm perfectly fine with just being fine and having free time to do things that I enjoy doing.

Stress is something I try to avoid these days at all costs. I already put enough of that on myself without worrying about things like bills and such. I'd much rather deny myself material pleasures that don't meaningfully fill any holes than slave away repaying debts.
I havent had a credit card in 12 yirz. But I'm not good at being frugal.
That's definitely a good thing if you're not frugal. Credit cards are just a step above Payday loans and are one of the easiest ways to ruin people who aren't frugal.
Stealing money from suckers-turned-wage-slaves is how they pay the CEOs and stockholders after they give me my cut in bonus points on my cards I pay off immediately after buying anything on them. (I've actually memorized which cards will let me pay them before transactions hit, and which ones will tell me that I can't put any money on them with a zero balance... It's an annoyance because I want to pay it now and I have to remember to come back in a few days so I can pay it once the new transaction clears).
But, as you know now, it's not just cards that are the problem. You don't have a car payment on that classic New Yorker (I'm assuming), but you did have a large mortgage for a house that's in one of the highest taxed areas in the country (both in property and sales taxes).
How much was your property taxes per year, JO? Do you even know the answer to that question, or was it wrapped up in escrow and just part of your monthly mortgage payment? If you looked into how much of that money every month you were paying that went to your property taxes and the loan, I think you'd be infuriated knowing how little of your cash was actually going toward the principal.
The good news is, even with the spike in rent costs, you'll probably be able to get an apartment for about as much as you were pissing away on property taxes in Illinois and the loan interest on the house.
You won't be building up any assets, but you won't be out on your ass.
Quote:Quote:
I get the sense that you're not nearly as stressed about any of this as you probably should be.
True. And it drives everybody nuts.
If it makes you feel any better, you're not driving me nuts. But then again, as much as I've always liked you on FFF.net, I'm not somebody in the real world who genuinely cares about you.
I spent 5 years drinking myself into a coma every other day and pushed everyone away before it could drive them nuts. Out of sight, of of mind, as it were. But there was a point there where people would hear so infrequently from me that I could probably have slipped in my tub and died and nobody would even find me until the neighbors started smelling something rotten.
It's taken years for me to re-establish just a handful of those relationships. Some of them I might not ever know if they could be salvaged because I just haven't felt like putting in the work. Relationships are taxing. (It's another thing I'm not very interested in or good at). There's only so much of me to go around. I think I'm pretty comfortable with the level of friends and family I interact with these days.
I look at it like I purged my real-life friends and family list like when I purged all of the garbage out of my house.
Simple. Neat. Complete.

Let me explain a bit about my background, JO, so maybe you can understand why I seem so "foreign" to you.
I'm pretty old. I was born to older parents, so my experience and their experiences - and the lessons they taught me- go back to pre-WWII days.
My dad grew up on a farm in rural Poland. No running water, no cars, no trucks. They had a plow horse, and a cow, and a pig, and fruit trees and some fields, and an outhouse. They ate a lot of potatoes and cabbage.
Once, the Russians came and burned down the family farm, and the family lived in a hole in the ground for a winter before they could rebuild. His mom died when he was 13. It was a hard life. but he was a bright young lad, and the family believed in getting an education to get ahead, so he got to university on a scholarship. He was 2 weeks away from getting his PhD in Physics when WWII came along, and he was drafted into the Polish Army and sent to fight the Russians. He was captured, escaped the Katyn Forest massacre by guile, sent to a Ukrainian tin mine. escaped again, and was sent to a Siberian labor camp to build the trans-Siberian railway.
Finally, the Russians and the British decided that they were really allies, and the Russians allowed the surviving Poles in their labor camps to go to England, if they could make their way. So my dad walked out of Siberia, made his was to a DP camp in Iran, where he was eventually transported by ship around Africa to England. There, he promptly joined the British commandos. I know this because we have some pictures of him in British uniform, and he used to get a disability check from Her Majesty's Army (in pounds, shillings, and pence) which he would have to go to the bank to cash.
He was parachuted into Poland to act as a provocateur/saboteur, but after the conference at Yalta, which "gave" Poland to the Russians, he had to escape, again, back to England.
In London, he got a Masters in Accounting. But there were so many displaced Poles in England, the Brits were anxious to get rid of them, and offered them one-way tickets to Australia, Canada, and USA. USA was the quickest trip, so dad moved here, where his degree was discounted. Back to the bottom, again. He started out as a clerk, and eventually worked his was, thru several jobs, to regional manager of a government agency where he was well-respected as a fair boss.
My mom lived thru the Great Depression with a largish family of siblings and step-siblings. HER parents ... my grandparents on my mom's side .. were also from Poland. They spoke Polish at home, she learned English at school. She remembers eating a lot of oats and prunes, because they gave them away for free! She left home when she was 16 to go to nursing school in Rochester MN, during one of the polio epidemics, where she became a Kinney nurse and, later, a pediatric nurse. Like my dad, she was a hard-working woman who worked, full time, while raising a family.
In our house, the worst thing you could call someone was "stupid", and the next-worse thing you could call someone was "lazy". They had a belief in education and getting ahead, and were extremely conscious that life could toss up pot

You need a very powerful UV light to disinfect air on the way thru. Has JO's helmet been shown to disinfect? Last I saw, he had a "model" with red and blue lights. "Red" and "blue" make purple, not UV. I wouldn't trust my life on it, unless it thoroughly tested, which I doubt it is bc JO doesn't have the equipment to do the testing.

J - Sugar daddy? HA!
You dont seem to hav a notion uv how much money iz sloshing around way up there out uv reach for us ordinary peepl. Or just the amount uv spare money us ordinary sitizenz hav lying around.
It won't. Money is intentionally moved by human entities - individuals or groups or their legal devices. SOME HUMAN-ASSOCIATED ENTITY is going to have to INTENTIONALLY move money in your direction. In other words, a sugar daddy.
Quote:But everybody would have to think it's worth a dime - and the time and effort that the task of donating a dime takes.
J - If everybody in the US dropped a dime into the UVPK project I coud hav product for sale in 6 months. (unless the regulatory ajensyz get in the way)
So, how's your noalf going? After all, it's even free!
Just becasue you think it's a brilliant idea and it solves some problem you're carrying around in your head, that doesn't mean it's a solution for others, especially because they aren't stuck on the problems you have in your head.
Quote:You're flogging a solution to a problem that's already been solved - so it's faster - and it's also better, and cheaper.
Alternatively, a small group uv investorz or a single "sugar daddy" coud see the potential and provide the money. Or Uncle Sam.
In any case, its wwwwwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyy less than wut haz been lost alredy.

K - Also, I don't think your helmet will ever be commercially viable.

J - Thats part uv wut a proper R&D project works on. Unfortunately, the louzy to nonexistant R&D prosess at most companyz theze dayz woud probably screw it up. Thats part uv why I want to do it.
A PROPER R&D PROCESS DOESN'T FLOG DEAD ISSUES.

Signy, JO's tether to reality is very poor. I cite noalf, RUSSIA!!!, and his COVID-19 helmet as examples, though there are many more.
Once he gets an idea, no amount of reality will dislodge it. Don't waste any more of your time discussing his notions with him. You'll just lose time and you'll get nowhere.
ETA: another striking example, right here in this thread, is his belief in SECOND's post about not hiring a PI, merely because what SECOND claims supports JO's own beliefs.

Since nothing I say will change his outlook - I mean, after all, he's convinced I'm "the enemy" and would reject anything I might offer- you're right. I'm just wasting my time.
ETA: He'll either figure out his life, or he won't.

I had the misfortune to be seated next to someone like JO at my very first professional conference in that field. I didn't notice that everyone else was savvy and avoiding that individual, and that I was playing an unwitting game of musical chairs, and that the end result was that there was no place to left to sit but the chair next to him. Still, it was an instructive experience!

I'm not familiar with that saying. Where on earth did that come from?

I'm hoping sum smartass on Wall Street will get the same UV notion that made 4M$ for the LEAF scammerz, do a Google and see my UVPK site, then think 'yes. I'll drop a mil on that befor I go to lunch.'
But, more likely, it wont be until the next variant blasts past the vaccinez and starts killing off Wall Street smartass'z familiarz.

You obviously do not. Robin Leach iz sneering at you from beyond the grave for saying that.

Wi do you keep repeating that? You shoud hav notist that the 'lie repeat' thing duznt work on me or any uv the other memberz here.

You know JO, I SPECIFICALLY mentioned N95s as the answer to COVID-19. You even quoted me.
Me mentioning that they are the most common duznt mean I wuz accuzing you uv prefering them.
And the N95z are not perfect. They arent even consistently good. I got a 3 pak at Walmart that looked to be good quality, but it turnz out the noze conforming metal strip iz too flimzy. Duznt matter how good the filter material works if its letting air in thru gaps.

And not restrict field of vision? Hearing? Heat dissipation? Not require power? Be cheaper and easier to use than an N95? That never fogs up?
Hoo sed anything about not requiring power?

Quote:Both Signym and 1kiki have complained about "mind-reading", which probably means to them having a theory about what invisible or undocumented ideas are roaming around in someone's mind or theorizing about a person's motivations for their actions. Nevertheless, if Signym and 1kiki tried to mind-read, they would conclude that second (that's me!) has no motive for spending money investigating in the real world, with a private eye or even an internet search, who those two really are. They already told me who they are in thousand different ways at fff.net.

What does the Voltaire quote: "Once a Philosopher, twice a pervert" mean?
Quote:
In this (anecdotal) case, Voltaire was asked to attend an orgy for a second time. He declined with the pertinent phrase.
By that he meant roughly:if you engage in a behavior once, you can justify it based on desire for qualitative, experiential insight of something you don't really understand. If you continue it to engage in it, however, you do so based on a genuine proclivity.
Related: "I'll try anything once" and "don't knock it until you've tried it."
Hilariously, that's not too far removed from the entire basis of Scientology.
Even more hilarious given that half of the Hollywood creeps are members.
