When deciding on medical procedures, I don't follow a risk/reward calculation. I look at the risk/risk ratio: There is a risk of doing nothing, and a risk of doing something.

"Doing nothing" means not getting the vaccine, potentially getting sick, and facing a risk of death if you're older than 50. In this case, your risk is the chance of getting sick times the chance of death. Chance of serious complications or death is pretty well-established for age and risk factors, the chance of getting sick depends very much on the community that you live in and the precautiions that you take.

"Doing something" means getting the vaccine, and potentially facing serious complications and side effects. Since, if you get the vaccine, the "chance" of you being vaccinated is "1", then all you need to do is look at the risk of serious complications or death from the vaccine itself. Last I checked, the risk of death from the Pfizer vaccine was about 1:650,000.

Overall, prolly for people over 50 and definitely for people over 60, the vaccine has a favorable relative risk. Not only that, but if there are any effects on fertility, that won't be a factor in that age group. (At least, not for women).

For the under-40, especially those with co-morbidities (chronic live disease seems to have the highest effect) vaccination is still a benefit, since (at current estimate) you have a 1:100 chance of dying from Covid-19 and a 1:20 (or higher) chance of getting the disease (based on serological data), so your risk is still higher than the risk from vaccination.

I suppose you can argue with the basic underlying data and argue about dying "from" Covid v dying "with" Covid, but "excess deaths" (which is an exceptionally straightforward statistic which doesn't require detailed interpretation) indicates that Covid-19 is an even WORSE killer than the stats would indicate, and you'd have to be off by a factor of about 5000 in order for vaccine to be riskier than Covid-19.
