I was reading that, regardless of cause of death, the administrators of these schools (read: bureaucrat) as late as 1942 did not think there was any requirement to notify or report any death of these children. So they might have been simple deaths from illness.
But they still should have been returned to family or tribe for burial or ritual.
Bureaucracy always allows humans to be separated from their humanity.

Read the Churches who ran these places didn't really care what happened to the children. They were being paid by the Feds and that is all that mattered.

Jayneztown, if you would bother to look at regular media outlets in Canada they have all showed pictures from residential schools and film footage as well. They have covered all the places the children's shoes have been placed on residential school grounds and all drumming and healing circles that have happened since the discovery.

They have spoken to survivors and gotten their stories.

And the shoes are meant to be disturbing to non-Indigenous Canadians and for First Nations to remember.

I have cried for all the children that were lost because of these places and I have cried for my own family and the children who were lost in the US.

I thought I heard local Indians mention that they did that in America, starting in recent years. Do you know if that is true?
Or is it different than what Canada will do? I don't know the details.

What I am was talking about is that instead of an Anglo name being used on a passport for travel to Europe or anywhere outside of North America, a person from say the Cree nation as an example can now put their Cree given name on their passport.

Canadian and American Indians can move fairly freely across the border between Canada and the US as long as you have documents like a Status card from Canada or Identification card from the US stating what tribe you are from and state and such in the US.

For someone who is mixed blood meaning half-Indian/ half-white you need papers signed from your family, from your tribe proving you are on the rolls and also listing how much Indian blood you have.

I couldn't find anything about names on passports for outside North America for the US, so I would guess that Native Americans must use European names on US passports.
