Since young people are at much LOWER risk of death (not negligible, still 2X higher than "the flu") why not let THEM out of the cage? People over 50, people with pre-existing conditions should STILL self-isolate, and they should STILL get benefits for #stayingthefuckhome but the younger people can be let loose to take their chances.
Yanno, kind of a reverse isolation: isolate the well, instead of the sick? This might be the "next step" after the swell of sick people flooding the hospitals has peaked and declined.
We won't achieve "herd immunity" that way, since the under-50 only represents 65% of the population (with an Rnaught of somewhere between 2.5 and 7, you need roughly 80-85% infection rate) but at least people like SIX won't be yowling about his freedoms being infringed.
There would need to be all kinds of thought given to health care workers, teachers, etc who would have to regard EVERYONE as potentially infectious, but maybe after the swell has peaked and gone down there might be enough supplies and enough tests at least for teachers etc.
Of course, junior and juniorette would have to isolate themselves from at-risk family members. Maybe that would propel them out of mom's and dad's basements.

That's a mistake. Especially if you're going to have a hard time finding a job right now.
You absolutely would get it. You were laid off. You have a 100% chance of getting it.
I remember not too long ago you were trying to sell a piece of art you made and said that you might be able to save yourself from foreclosure if you were able to sell it.
I'm not sure if you were just joking about things before, it's really none of my business, and I'm not trying to be a dick here... But you sounded like you were pretty close to the end of your rope before you got that job.
Not only does being laid-off suck balls, but for you it happened at a terrible time because the only jobs that would be available to you right now are "essential" jobs that would put you into constant contact with people who may or may not be infected (if you're worried about that sort of thing). Many of those jobs will not even be making close per-week to what you'd be getting on unemployment now if you filed for it.
If you are too lazy to file for unemployment right now, you're literally throwing away $600/mo. in Federal payouts on top of whatever the fairly generous percentage of your old pay was for the usual 26 weeks and an additional 13 week extension. For at least the first 4 months, I'm going to venture a guess that you would be getting paid more to stay at home than you made working your last job.
Do what you want to do, but for a smart guy you're acting extremely dumb here. The Federal benefits alone that you're choosing to flush down the toilet are $9,600 before taxes. That doesn't even include the 39 weeks of Illinois UI benefits.

Here's a thought. Especially for anybody who is seriously grabbing their mail with neoprene gloves and letting it chill on the countertop in the sunlight for 3 days before even daring to touch it.
You better have the bottle of bleach ready by the sink and get ready to scrub any items you buy at the grocery store.
Maybe the next guy or gal who pulls this shit isn't going to do you the favor of filming it and putting it up on Twitter, and subsequently getting arrested and charged with "making a terrorist threat of the second degree" and ultimately convicted with a 5 year prison sentence.
You might also want to pinch that loaf when out in public and retreat to the safety of your own shitter while you're at it if you didn't already do that before COVID Fever swept the nation.

The one situation where an entire, closed population was tested was the Diamond Princess cruise ship and its quarantine passengers. The case fatality rate there was 1.0%, but this was a largely elderly population, in which the death rate from Covid-19 is much higher.

I'm not behaving any different with Kiki than I have with any other idiot on these boards who decides that it is a good idea to antagonize and/or insult me in every post. Kiki started piling on me long before COVID was a worry in the states because I don't believe that AIDS is real. You can go ahead and look back at post history if you are confused about the timelinie.
I'm not panicking here. My behavior hasn't changed. I'm not going to be washing items I buy or even giving them a second thought when I pick them up at the grocery store.
