Modern conservative politics is remarkable. Two days ago it felt like everyone was totally on board with school closings and quarantines and social distancing. It was the new reality. Then Donald Trump announced that he didn’t really believe the experts after all and wanted to re-open the economy. Within 24 hours I swear that practically every conservative in the country was suddenly in agreement—or seriously considering it at the very least. All Trump had to do was open his mouth to produce a right-wing U-turn so violent you could almost hear the necks snapping.
How has Trump done this?
I was never on board with it, buddy.
I don't think that Trump had anything to do with it. I think it was the statewide bans that did it.
My state actually flat out tells you that as of Midnight tonight you are not permitted to visit any relatives unless you are going there to provide for their "health and well being".
Fuck them.

Consider St. Louis. In 1918 the city was an example of how to do social distancing right because it took an aggressive and layered response to the flu pandemic early on. But as a 2007 study published in JAMA found, St. Louis in 1918 pulled back its social distancing efforts prematurely — and that led to a spike in deaths. Let it spike only if you don't give a damn about death.
It’s the paradox of public health: When you do it right, nothing happens. So if we’re doing social distancing right, we’ll prevent deaths — but it’s not like people will see each death that was prevented.

Kinda have to just let them do it. You can't stop a third of the country from making horrible decisions like... becoming Trumpers. At this point nothing is going to stop it. Let the gullible fools walk head first into the meat grinder. If they can't understand the exponential scale of this thing, it's better for the planet of they just shuffle off. Poor doomed dumb fools.

OK, FOOL. Go to a major E.R. near you two weeks from now and we'll see if you can still say that when they're stacking corpses to the ceiling. When you get it, none of us want your midnight fool typing about how you can't breathe.

I probably already have it, dipshit. I've had a cold for the last week now.
Why don't you come up north so I can sneeze on you?

SIX: Freedom is sacrosanct.
No, it isn't.
sacrosanct: most holy or inviolable
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/sacrosanct
inviolable:
1 : secure from violation or profanation an inviolable law
2 : secure from assault or trespass : unassailable
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/inviolable
The other overused word is "inalienable".
If "rights" are so inalienable, why so some nations have 22 and others only have 9?
If "freedom" is so sacrosanct, why are so many people bound?
If freedoms and rights were really so god-given, truly sacrosanct and inalienable, we wouldn't have to write or talk about them; they would just be. The only reason why we call them "sacrosanct" and "inalienable" is because they're anything but. We're simply trying to reinforce the notion with our language, but frankly I find the effort to be more confusing than enlightening because it doesn't reflect reality.

Maybe this is a good time for people tostop and consider what is truly necessary.
Health, and a functioning healthcare system... that seems pretty necessary.
Food, water, shelter... that seems pretty necessary too.
Decent jobs... need that too.
The latest car/clothes/gizmo/vacation/propaganda piece in the news? ... Maybe not so much.
I noticed there were hardly any planes in the sky. How many of those trips were really necessary? I'll bet the CO2 emissions are way down, too.
I know many people are running around like crazy just to put food on the table these days, but maybe the opportunity to slow down and reflect might cause a reevaluation and reset for some.
