There's no way to estimate how many illegals are here.
We don't use a lack of SS#'s to go after them. We don't shut down businesses that employ them. We don't bother even kindly asking them in a census.
We've had a catch and release system for the better part of 20 years.
You're disingenuously taking the absolute lowest number that is theorized. It's also theorized there are as many as 35 million illegals in the country in 2019 as well.

As for your analogy, any exterminator is going to make sure that no more can get in before getting rid of the problem inside.
I just went through this shit myself with a racoon problem. I successfully got rid of the first one (or family), only to have another one take up residence a week later.... because I didn't secure my border.
It took an ammonia gas attack to remove the second one before I could block everything off.
Unfortunately, we don't have anything at our disposal that would target only illegals. The closet (and scariest) thing we supposedly have on the market is agents which will target demographic groups by their DNA signatures. This would not work at all however, since one's citizenship is not written into their DNA.
The first thing that needs to be done is to close off the borders and make them air-tight. Then we get rid of illegals inside. Once the number is more manageable and we're not making a guess about how many we have (+/- 20 Million), then it would be much easier to monitor those with Visas after they've expired.
And yes. They should be monitored. They are not citizens, and too many who have come before them ruined it for the rest of them.
