Ruh Roh, Comey!

I can't remember where we left off on Comey. Was he a good guy or a bad guy the last time anybody bothered talking about him?

Do Right, Be Right. :)

I don't recall him ever being a good guy.

Well, Brennan should at least be the first one in prison, and lasting longer there.

Obviously, I was being sarcastic.

Just like Mueller, the on-again/off-again relationship the lefties here had with Comey was rather comical to watch.

I lost track of whether or not they currently viewed him as a good guy or a bad guy. Was just looking for some clarification.

At least I'm fairly sure that we can all agree they're bad guys now. Albeit for very different reasons, I'm sure.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

Obama's Top FBI Lawyer Distances Himself From Steele Dossier As DOJ Investigation Looms

James Baker - the Obama FBI's top attorney (general counsel) said on Friday that he was skeptical about the Steele dossier, and "concerned" about its veracity when the agency received it prior to the 2016 US election, according to the Daily Caller's Chuck Ross.

"It was more information that we viewed, that I viewed, skeptically from the outset, and I was concerned about it and had a jaundiced eye, or looked at it with a jaundiced eye right from the outset," Baker told MSNBC's Chuck Todd, adding "Steele was and had been a source that we thought was reliable. He’s reporting all this information. It looks alarming. We took it seriously, but we tried to vet it."

The dossier - a collection of memos compiled by an ex-British spy funded by Hillary Clinton's 2016 campaign and the DNC - was used by the FBI to obtain a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act warrant to spy on Trump campaign aide Carter Page. Steele alleged that Page provided the Trump campaign a Kremlin backchannel during the election.

Baker also told Todd that he thinks the FISA warrants against Page would have been granted without the dossier, and took a pregnant pause when asked if the dossier was used to obtain FISA warrants on other people - saying "I don’t think I should comment on that, I’m not sure what else the government has confirmed," and adding "I don’t want to confirm or deny anything about other potential FISA applications."

Well... If they were applied for, they were approved. You could count on one hand the amount of FISA warrants that were actually turned down since the court's creation. It's an unconstitutional rubber-stamping outfit.

If nothing else, I'm glad that this whole fiasco has brought the FISA court to the public's attention. All it is, is a court that will provide warrants that can not be legally obtained through any other court in the US.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

Do you have facts to back up that claim? How many FISC Applications have been presented? How many FISA Warrants have been approved? How many denied/declined?

There will probably not be many important entries for the near future. The investigation does NOT depend on the IG, who is more like an auditor. Instead, it has been handed over to a Special Prosecutor. Also, Barr is apprently ignoring whatever Huber has done (which was "not much", according to several important witnesses who said he never interviewed them) so we will have to wait for the Prosecutor to write his reaport, and for indictment (if any) to occur.

Well... places like NPR voiced strong opposition to it, back before Trump that is.

NPR's Dina Temple-Raston has this report on how the court works.

DINA TEMPLE-RASTON, BYLINE: The criticism of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court is simple: that it's a rubber stamp, and that the government always gets what it wants. And here's a number that seem to support that: 1,856. That's the number of applications presented to the court by the government last year. And it's also the number that the court approved: 100 percent success. ~Quote, Circa 2013

Oh look... Motherjones weighs in, in 2013 too...

But fast-forward to 2017, and it looks like NPR changed their mind.

NPR Pretends FISA Court Is Not a Rubber Stamp

Google answers, today (05/19/2019):

Quote:

Question: What percentage of FISA warrants are approved?

Answer: Over the entire 33-year period, the FISA court granted 33,942 warrants, with only 12 denials – a rejection rate of 0.03 percent of the total requests. This does not include the number of warrants that were modified by the FISA court.

Rubber stamp.

Donald J. Trump tweeted this morning @realDonaldTrump

Why are the Democrats not looking into all of the crimes committed by Crooked Hillary and the phony Russia Investigation? They would get back their credibility. Jerry Nadler, Schiff, would have a whole new future open to them. Perhaps they could even run for President!
5:13 AM - 20 May 2019
https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1130446450557673474

I know the answer to Trump's two rhetorical questions: Congress is the checks and balances on the President. But Hillary is not the President, so whatever crimes she committed are Trump's Department of Justice's responsibility, not Congress's. With the FBI, if Congress was writing legislation to reorganize the FBI so that another "Russia Investigation" was impossible, Congress might be looking into the matter. But Congress does not see a problem with Mueller's Report damning Trump or how the previous head of the FBI, Robert Mueller III, got started on that job immediately after Trump fired the other head of the FBI, James Comey. It is Trump's problem, not Congress's. If Trump wants to fire people at the FBI and arrest Robert Mueller III or James Comey, he can go right ahead and do it, if it is that important to his peace of mind, but it is still not Congress's problem. It is Trump's.
