Trump lowers expectations on North Korea after his intelligence chiefs contradicted his rosy outlook.

For months, President Donald Trump and top administration officials have maintained that they struck an agreement with North Korea last June to end its nuclear program.

But after US intelligence officials on Tuesday openly contradicted that, stating that North Korea likely won’t give up its arsenal, Trump seems to be walking that back:

“Decent chance of denuclearization,” he tweeted on Wednesday. “Time will tell what will happen with North Korea.”

A “decent chance.” That, folks, is what people in the political world call “moving the goalposts.”

That’s a far cry from the comments Trump made in June — just hours after meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un for the first time — in which the president stated that there was “no longer a Nuclear Threat from North Korea.”

President Trump lashed out at the government’s most senior intelligence leaders Wednesday, his latest assault on the spies and analysts who work for him but sometimes deliver facts that he doesn’t want to hear.

Washington Post

You beat me to it SECOND.

I am expecting that Kim will meet and completely bedazzle Trump next month. Trump will once again claim a historic victory in disarming North Korea, but all he really did was swallow a bunch of lies from Kim, a more skilled liar than himself.

Many of the experts are taking to the airwaves pointing out that America has the best intel and advisers who study this shit for a living. That America spends billions and billions on intel and experts to dicipher what we glean. That Trump not only goes with his gut but he dismisses the many billions of dollars spent and the people who do this for a living as wrong. He insists he knows best.

More Second that points to dummies like jack being, well, dummies for backing Trumps gut over all gathered evidence.

Here is the threat assessment. If you read it, you will have started before Trump got around to it:

Statement For The Record
Worldwide Threat Assessment Of The US Intelligence Community
Daniel R. Coats
Director of National Intelligence
Senate Select Committee on Intelligence
29 JANUARY 2019
www.dni.gov/files/ODNI/documents/2019-ATA-SFR---SSCI.pdf

Despite the fact that those statements were made on live television before Congress, and were also written down and entered into the congressional record, Trump is now claiming that none of that happened and that the media is lying:

Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump
Just concluded a great meeting with my Intel team in the Oval Office who told me that what they said on Tuesday at the Senate Hearing was mischaracterized by the media - and we are very much in agreement on Iran, ISIS, North Korea, etc. Their testimony was distorted press........I would suggest you read the COMPLETE testimony from Tuesday. A false narrative is so bad for our Country. I value our intelligence community. Happily, we had a very good meeting, and we are all on the same page!

Here is what President Trump has said on key issues:

ISIS is defeated in Syria.
North Korea is “no longer a nuclear threat” and Kim Jong Un is committed to giving up his country’s nuclear weapons.
Russia didn’t interfere in the 2016 presidential election.
Climate change is a hoax.
Staying in the Iran nuclear deal would lead to that country acquiring nuclear weapons in “just a short time.”

(Trump's Director of National Intelligence does NOT agree, in writing and video, with any of Trump's baloney listed above.)

A North Korean Defector Shows How Kim Makes a Chump of Trump

Kim Jong Un used the threat of war — and Trump’s own hysterical rhetoric — to create a situation where he appears a peacemaker, and U.S. forces are out of the peninsula.

There is no way North Korea is going to give up its nukes, says Pyongyang’s most prominent defector. And if President Donald Trump doesn’t watch out, Thae Yong Ho predicts, he will slip into the quicksand of a deal that will lead “inevitably” to withdrawal of America’s 28,500 troops from South Korea.

In a meeting with foreign correspondents here, Thae outlined the dangers facing U.S. policy with the emergence of what he called “the Trump doctrine.” It bears a distinct resemblance, he said, to the “Nixon doctrine” that led the U.S. to pull its troops from South Vietnam and finally opened the way for North Vietnamese forces to overrun Saigon nearly half a century ago.

The fact that Trump will be sitting down with Kim Jong Un next week in Hanoi, capital of the Vietnamese regime that destroyed South Vietnamese forces in April 1975, deepened the scary image of looming disaster.

American and South Korean military officers are inclined to agree with Thae. Their greatest fear is that Trump will make significant concessions to Kim, going even beyond his surprise decision after the June summit in Singapore to cancel joint military exercises.

At the diplomatic level, Kim has been all take and no give. “In the past the international community has criticized the DPRK [North Korea] for its failure to honor agreements,” said Thae, “but there has been no such request to honor the Singapore agreement,” and that was vague to begin with.

At the end of the day, Thae suggested, North Korea is going to be accepted as “a de facto nuclear state,” and that being the case, the U.S. will have to talk about long term “disarmament” — a distinct climbdown from denuclearization.

Given all the dents the North Koreans have made in Seoul’s defenses through negotiations, Thae said, they “have strong confidence in their ability to drive U.S. forces from South Korea.”
