December is already a few days old, but I have some films that may be of interest.
Of course, there's the big one - Rogue One on the 16th
Assassin's Creed - Dec 21 - Michael Fassbender as the main ninja, based on a video game no less. He plays a hunter sent back in time to the Spanish Inquisition days for some reason that is not revealed either in the trailer or elsewhere.
Miss Sloane - Dec 9 - a political thriller with Jessica Chastain.
La La Land - Dec 9 & 16 - If you like musicals, here's an entry you might check out. With Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling?
Office Christmas Party - Dec 9 - a raucous, drug fueled office holiday party with an all-star cast (looks really stupid too. I'm in!)
Collateral Beauty - Dec 16 - A depressed Will Smith finds himself visited by the spiritual embodiments of love, time and death. A kind of weird Christmas Carol. with Kiera Knightly, Helen Mirren.
Why Him? - Dec 23 - A dumb-looking comedy with James Franco and Bryan Crantson (who must have needed the money).
Sing - Dec 21 - A cartoon about animals entering a singing contest, by the folks that make the Minions cartoons. Kids should love it.
Passengers - Dec 21 - Two space travelers are accidentally awakened well before their spaceship reaches it's destination. I have this on my must-see list because it's Jennifer Lawrence and Star Lord.
A Monster Calls - Dec 23 - About a young boy with a dying mother visited by a story-telling monster. Based on a children's book.
Silence - Dec 23 - Jesuit priests bringing the gospel to 17th century Japan. Liam Neeson and Andrew Garfield.
Fences - Dec 28 - Denzel Washington reprising his Broadway role in an August Wilson masterpiece play brought to the big screen. Denzel directs as well, with Viola Davis (two heavy hitters).
Patriot's Day - Dec 21 - About the Boston Marathon bombing, Mark Wahlberg stars.
Live By Night - Dec 25 - A Ben Affleck directed drama set during the Roaring 20s about a bootlegger turned gangster.
Hidden Figures - Dec 28 - Three African American women who were instrumental in the 1960s space race. Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer and Janelle Monae. (They may have changed the release date because I saw it listed in Flixster for Jan 6, 2017)

Although I love Amy Adams, I'm not sure I want to see this in the theater.

I recently saw the trailer to A Monster Calls, and it looks somewhat like a Guillermo Del Toro film with Liam Neeson doing the voice of the Monster. Although I'm not familiar with the children's book, I liked the look of the trailer so much, I may well go see this in the theater.

I've been wondering about Alan in Rogue One. Will his voice in a blockbuster spur fans to investigate his prior work, like Firefly?
Or has that well already gone dry?
I conjure that younger viewers may migrate towards the Verse.

20th Century Woman. 25 December. Elle Fanning could be a big pull, but she was also in Neon Demon. Bening definitely a negative. If it looks like Elle is prominent, I'll suffer through it. But the whole theme doesn't pull me, I knew too many of these characters in the day.

This was better than I expected. This must be the best role that I have seen Olivia Munn in any film - she really pulls her weight here, although others have higher billing and just don't seem to bring it.
