Plajerized from Daily Kos:
I just watched the Jon Stewart takedown of Fox over their ‘parasitic poor people’ stance and it gave me an idea for a way to even things up a little.
To elaborate on the title — National Shoplifting Day would be 1 day out of the year when ordinary people would be allowed the privilege of unquestioned, open theft enjoyed year-round by the rich. You would only need to show a card provided by the IRS as proof that you earn less than some specific amount, lets say 80,000$ per year, and you could walk into any big box store and fill your shopping cart till the wheels start squealing. The stores would simply ‘write it off’ and the total gets payed in tax by the top 10%.
To keep it from getting too crazy, you’d be limited to 1 visit per franchise, so a diversified portfolio would be the way to go. You don’t want to end up with a living room full of TVs but be wearing rags and eating Ramen Noodles all year.
Sounds nuts, doesn’t it? Yet it’s just 1/365th of a real solution to the problem of gross inequality in our economy. 1 day out of the year when you get to grab more than you can possibly use for yourself; a way-the-hell out of whack greedy beyond all reason hogathon, just like all those CEOs, hedge fund managers, celebrities, etc. take for granted year round.
Here’s another idea:
What if someone creates a comprehensive set of laws to actually level the playing field — make it so that everybody is getting a fair share of the wealth being generated all year round. Make it something that will work even when, in the not to distant future, the entire labor for money thing dries up due to automation and droids. Have Robert Reich and a team of like minded economic geniuses draw up some legislation. Then we let the rich people and corporations vote on it; either National Shoplifting Day or a complete and permanent level playing field.
I bet they go for the Shoplifting. As a nonrich citizen of this great nation, what would you pick?

We've arrived at socialism for the rich, and capitalism for everyone else.

Idocracy all the way my friend....
I made about 4k this year, including unemployment. I just about doubled that with food stamps and energy assistance.
If it wasn't for my teeth falling out of my mouth and how much that's going to cost me, I just about broke even.
I wouldn't mind a shopping spree day. I'd probably save a big screen TV or two, but I'd sell the rest to pay for all the dental work I need. :)

What I wanna know is "Why?" There's no reason you shouldn't have a decent paying job, there's many people here that have no teeth and still work 60 hr weeks.
Do you not have a resume together or something? You obviously know how to type and use a computer, so what gives???

BTW, went and saw that today out of sheer boredom....It has a nice ending message of "Everything will be hunky dory if you just breed a few times, everything can be fixed by BABIES."
It was very disturbing, thinking of all these girls out there watching THAT...

Hey Wish :)
I just had a long convo with my old man about that today. I've been in one of my "funks" again for about 3 weeks and I didn't go to any of the family Thanksgiving parties. Thanksgiving hasn't been something I did with my Dad's side of the family for years, but he still knew about it... probably from one or both of my brothers.
He was just going to keep calling me until I picked up today, so I finally did. I told him something that I never told anyone I know personally. I'm damn near agoraphobic now. In the last 45-60 days, I've been outside of my home maybe 10 hours tops. That includes yard work.
I never got a proper college education, but with my extremely versatile work experience and the 6 months mechatronics training and the certs I've got, I can't give you one single good reason why I'm not at least working part time at Family Dollar now....
It's really bad actually. The few times I leave my house to pick up necessities I am so full of anxiety it actually physically hurts.
I've always not really liked people I don't know or being around them, but now that my teeth are falling out of my face and I've put on 30lbs and can barely cram my fat ass into my largest pair of jeans, my self esteem is so low i can barely get out of bed in the morning to pick up eggs, let alone try to survive a job interview.
I've probably got a 145-160 IQ. As you know, I can do almost anything necessary to keep a house working in tip-top shape as well as full bathroom/kitchen remodels. I'm great at customer service and walking customers through technical procedures over the phone without having to be there, and doing so with people all across the globe. My organizational skills are second to none. I could manage a warehouse. I can drive a forklift and other machines. I even know enough basic Spanish to get the point across to the employees that didn't speak English. Now I know so much about repairing machines and electrical relays that I'd be able to keep up with Kaylee...
Yet.... anything short of a cattle-prod or the idea of starving because there is no food left in my house is the only thing that can seem to get me out the door.
Honestly? When I'm awake, I really don't think I want to live anymore, to tell the truth.
I do have amazing dreams though. Really, Truly Amazing Dreams.
The last three weeks I've easily slept 18 hours or more everyday. I hate being awake and sober. I hate having to think about anything anymore. I just want to sleep and dream.
I'm not at all trying to justify my position here. I know how pathetic it is. I'm not even asking for your sympathy. You asked a question, and I answered it.
I'm my only friend and my own worst enemy at the same time.
Do Right, Be Right. :)

Which Hunger Games movie did you see today?
I only saw the first two movies, but that's not the message I got out of it.
There is something to say about having kids though, at least if you're a decent person. I envy even my most messed up family that has kids because I know they're good people deep down. Even though it's hard, they get over themselves and put the kids first.
My old man said to me today that out of all of his kids that I'm the one most like him. That wasn't a revelation for either of us. We both knew that....
I told him that the difference between me and him, and something he should be applauded for is that he always had somebody to care about and help out to keep his mind off of himself like he would if he wasn't otherwise preoccupied. For better or worse, he had three kids from a terrible first marriage that he cared dearly for and the youngest is still childlike in many ways after the brain hemmorahge. When he was 40 he married a 20 year old with a 4 year old of her own. That 4 year old has grown up to be one of the nicest and respectable and well-rounded 26 year olds I've ever known. My half brother, my father's last son, is riddled with OCD but has a beautiful mind that I could never comprehend. The type of mind that understands string theory. The type of mind that recently turned down a job offering 80k a year..... Not because it wasn't enough money, but because he'd kill himself from the boredom of being one of the best insurance actuaries in the business....
I don't even own a dog. I have zero responsibilities.
"You asked for it? You Got It. Toyota!"
As appealing as a life without responsibility might have been to a 20 year old me, it's everything except the actual death sentence to me today.
Every Single Day I Live I tell myself "I'll do better Tomorrow".
Then the sun rises, as it always does, and I don't do any better.
I wake up at 6:30AM and somehow fill my mind with excueses and my belly with food and just lay around watching TV shows or sleeping and eventually it's dark outside again.
And I tell myself again "I'll do better Tomorrow"....
My life has become a sad loop of mediocrity and complacency. Without the will to break the chain, I feel like I have no idea how to move forward.
Everyday is exactly the same.
And I have no one to blame but myself.
At least I have that...
As long as you blame other people for your problems you can never hope to heal yourself.
I've forgiven my parents and anyone I used to be mad at before about all of my bruises. Believe it or not, I'm a lot more "happier" overall now that I'm free from that anger towards others I care about.
I feel like I've just moved all of that baggage on myself now though. I didn't set myself free of all of that anger and hate. I just moved it off the shoulders of my family and added it to the weight I already carried on my back.
I'm like a black hole for every piece of shit and negative thought anyone I care about has. An emptathatic lightning rod... a way to alleviate your pain and set you free from any of those guilty feelings you harbor...
Nobody asks where all that bullshit goes when it's gone from them.
As much as I'd love to, I don't cast them out into the great beyond...
i Crystallize them. i entomb them inside my head and my heart. The more pain I take away from others I care about, the less human I become as I internalize their own pain a

For my own sanity, i have to at least put a somewhat positive spin on all of this. I've listened to all of those NIN songs 3 times and re-read the message as many times now, and I can't keep doing that.....
This isn't any different in the end, but at least it puts a happy vernier on everything..
Do Right, Be Right. :)
