I don't know if they are much good, seems critics rate them 3 out of 5 or rate them 4 out of 5...worth a look maybe but not on the level of classic tv

I was curious enough that I took a peek..................Dark Matter, and to be honest, I wasn't expecting much. I was right, but it was okay enough.
I found myself wanting to know what was going to happen next (although there was some stilted acting and somewhat cheesy production, it bothered me
that I found myself wanting to see more at the end of each episode.

There were similarities to Firefly, but just enough things different that
kept me watching. There was one shiny little star among the not-so-brilliant
and that was 2. I liked her - she was a cross between Zoe and the Captain, and not a bad actor. Okay she was good compared to the others, I believed
her. There, I said it!

Next thing you know I'm at the end of the season and gorram it, wouldn't you know - that was it. No more seasons. I actually cared that the season finished - go figure! By the way, I kinda liked the android too. So shoot me

Who'll hook up w/ the cyborg chick, ala DATA and Lt Yar , from STNG ?

I just started watching Dark Matter last night (3 episodes in). It’s clearly not Firefly level (nothing is), but I’m enjoying it more than I expected to. Episode Two kind of reminds me of The Train Job even. Moral quandaries about whether or not to help a small mining town. Very Firefly-esque theme. Personally, I think the acting is fine. The issue is that they’re not given the witty dialogue that Firefly actors got. In Firefly, you could be feeling the gravitas of high drama and still be laughing.

In a weird way, it actually reminds me of an adult version of Space Cases. Small motley crew of misfits with minimal direction on a mysterious spaceship trying to get answers with help from a quirky lady-android (who has a special link to the ship).

led me to believe DM had suffered the same 1 and done fate as our BDH. To be honeset, I hadn't given it much thought, but I assumed it was coming back. So I had to make sure...

You too, huh!? Perhaps you have a point there about the dialogue, I found myself comparing it to Firefly throughout. No one, I mean no one will ever be able to capture that type of dialogue.

Still though, I couldn't help but like this show a little.

Just finished Dark Matter this morning. When I can refrain from comparing it to Firefly, I actually like it a lot. Here's what I think worked:

1. The Android is awesome. Starting with the episode where there's another android (trying to avoid giving too much away), she's maybe my favorite character. Five and Six are up there too.
2. Appropriate use of suspense with timely resolution. I hate JJ Abrams-style suspense where mysteries are held on to for so long and end up being lame. In Dark Matter episodes end with a taste of the next episode and always deliver.
3. Sweet villainous cameo late in the season.
4. At least once when Six starts the Marauder, he flips three switches on the ceiling.

In general, I think they did a great job creating complicated, interesting relationships. I love that there was a necessary element of distrust, but they still end up being a (weird, dysfunctional) family.

Also, as I'm writing, this I'm just recalling now that four is considered unlucky in some east Asian cultures because it symbolizes death...

Interesting nugget on the #4. Now I wonder if that was done on purpose by the writers. Would make sense.

I think there's near universal agreement that the android is a fan fav. Soooo many ways they can take that , character wise. Though some may just write android off as a rehash of DATA, from ST-NG, yet another mechanical humanoid device, longing to be a real boy / girl, what ever. I'm cool w/ her though.

Killjoys: I can't help but notice the discussion has left out the other series mentioned in the OP. Is there less enthusiasm for it than Dark Matter ? Is it simply less Firefly-like, and so it's not looked upon as fondly, or do folks just not care for it ?

David Fortier and Ivan Schneeberg, the executive producers of the show, were quoted as saying "We couldn't be more excited to bring back Killjoys and its stellar cast to audiences across the U.S. We look forward to working with the team at Syfy for a thrilling second season

Dark Matter is, like Firefly, similar to a lot of past SF. But both Firefly and Dark Matter are well done and have casts with chemistry. I like them both. The Expanse is another recent example of well done SF.

Maybe in the coming days I will give Killjoys a look-see. I get the feeling that I may not be impressed by it, but who knows? Right now, I'm loving me some Netflix and Amazon seems to be making some head way in the series landscape.

How about Fox bringing back X-Files? There's a little nugget that may pave the way
for our BDH. Why not?
