this has probably been hashed and re-hashed here and in other forums but i'm going to ask again. Why is Anya so afraid of bunnies? She shows up at the Halloween party in season 4 dressed as a bunny, saying they scare her, and then she has the "it must be bunnies" freak-out in Once More With Feeling, and some other bunny moments in between, but did they ever definatively say "this is why" or is this one of those things that make her who she is and there is no explanation?

In one ep we saw that she used to raise rabbits, back when she was dating Olaf, before becoming a Vengeance Demon.

Possibly the bunnies remind her of that, and the load-bearing tavern wench.

I have a sneaking suspicion that one of the Buffy writers is a Sluggy Freelance ( www.sluggy.com ) fan. That would certainly account for bunny-phobia.

I read an interview once where Joss and/or Marti Noxon said that they had never fully fleshed out why Anya was afraid of bunnies - they just loved the device, & figured they'd get around to explaining it at some point.

Or wait - was that in Joss' commentary on OMWF?
