It is pretty confrontational, and partisan. But hell, partisan fighting is pretty much what we're all here for. We all want to proclaim the 'rightness' of our own side's views, and (even more) proclaim the 'wrongness' of the other side's. We'll see, this thread might encourage a certain degree of nastiness, and if it does I'll be happy to let it die. That's why I said in the OP that I was going to 'see how it goes'.
As for the inherent meanness of this thread. To avoid getting mentioned in this thread by me:
1) Be prepared to back up assertions that you've made (especially brash ones)
2) Be prepared to back down if you can't
