I will admit that I don't know enough about history to have an opinion on this yet. There is nothing in the constitution that limits terms for a President and that was all done well after the fact, but that may very well have been done for a good damned reason.
The problem is, because we're talking about Trump, I already know exactly what the media will be saying about it, and none of it will be helpful. But if it were Obama we were talking about running for a 3rd term, they'd be giving all the reasons the other side would be giving right now. Can't trust the media on either side of this one for sure.
The warning that I would give Republicans is two-fold here.
1. REALLY do your due diligence and research, and if knowledgeable chess-player types in your ranks feel that it is a bad idea to try to remove the barriers to the 2-term Presidency, then you DO NOT DO IT.
2. Be prepared to face off against Barack Obama in 2028 if you pull the trigger on this.
His star may have faded in recent years, along with the death of the Democratic Party compounding things. But if Trump or the DOGE Boys fuck something huge that can't be un-fucked before the election, Barack Obama is going to come back with a Vengeance. And that is an outcome that could have been entirely prevented if you didn't open the door up for Democrats to run somebody for more than 2 terms as well.
They have nobody else that they can run in 2028. Even if things look bad for American's outlook on the future 3 years from now, anybody they've got is still going to be an extremely hard sell. That all changes if you allow Barack Obama back into the race.
Hope you're all thinking this through far more than your average Democratic Party politician would.
The days of you idiots fucking the country up every four to eight years by gambling the future away for short-term political gains for either side needs to finally come to an end.
