It is about a German Jewish family who moved to Kenya in 1938 before things got really bad in Germany. It was the father's idea, but the mom was very resentful about leaving her family and friends and comfortable lifestyle to live in "nowhere in Africa."
I really enjoyed the film, and I often think of it when prescient people leave an ambivalent situation before knowing for sure that it would get very bad.

In '38 it was bad, but it was probably only as bad as it is here, now. The real sign to leave was the Patriot Act/Reichstag Fire, which says something, because if this is 1938, our Kristallnacht moment is coming right up. Of course, we've already invaded Poland, I think it's about to be Russia. Maybe it's already 1941.
