Actually, apparently it's Morena's. She supported the idea of fan-funding over at io9...

Poor Morena. Poor, poor Morena...

My sentiment exactly.

I just can't see this idea working.

Tweet from Joss' sister in law, Maurissa Tancharoen

"Guys, no one in the Whedonverse is in support of www.helpnathanbuyfirefly.com. Please save your money!"

If nothing else, all this proves is how out of touch with the fan base the people at this website are.

Can this really happen? No. Is it nice to see all the Firefly-fervor again? Hell yeah.

But I'm not sending money until Joss tells me to.

I was continually struck, particularly on the Facebook page of HNBF, how very little of the rest of the fandom they knew anything about. Or of Joss and his current projects and of Nathan and his level of support for the fandom but not foolhardiness. The fan participation and excitement were wonderful to see, but some of the sheer gullibility was scary to see.

I am glad it seems to be winding down. They've started another Facebook page they're calling The Cortex to be their hub of activity and communication.
I wish they'd just come here or joined fff.net on Facebook...but time marches forward.

Indeed DMI - Joss is Boss. :)

I guess you have to look at it this way: hardcore fans inhabit sites exclusively for a show, such as this one. Facebook is a way for the numerous casual fans to get involved with the fandom because so many people are already on facebook anyway. I know that I've personally converted dozens to the show, but none of them have registered on fff.net, but many of them have liked some sort of Firefly fan page on FB. We all talk about spreading the word and introducing new people to the show; perhaps this is the result.

A definite positive from all this has been the mass showing of support for Firefly.

A definite positive.
I don't care where fans talk about Firefly, I am just glad they're talking about Firefly and FB is a huge place to get attention.
